MCVEYTOWN - William E. Coleman, 68, of Lombard Street, McVeytown, died at 9:46 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born July 26, 1932, in McVeytown, he was the son of Helen (Irvin) Bard of South Wayne Street, Lewistown and the late Warner Coleman. His wife, Laura A. (Fisher) Coleman, who he married Oct. 25, 1959, survives. Also surviving are: children, Steven E. Coleman, Criswell Street, McVeytown, Mrs. Jeffrey (Brenda) Yoder, River Road, McVeytown, and Mrs. Kenneth (Andrea) Cook, John Street, McVeytown; a sister, Dorothy Huff, South Wayne Street, Lewistown; and six grandchildren. He served in the United States Army. He was a truckdriver for 45 years, having worked for Class I Transport, McVeytown, for the last six years. He was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church, the McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM, and the Valley of Harrisburg Consistory. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the McVeytown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marian E. Hartman and the Rev. Norman Huff officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the McVeytown United Methodist Church, PO Box 347, McVeytown, PA 17051 or to the McVeytown Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 336, McVeytown, PA 17051 or to the McVeytown Ambulance Association, PO Box 11, McVeytown, PA 17051.
MCVEYTOWN - Betty J. Collanbine, 68, of 6515 SR 103 South, McVeytown, died at 12:29 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born April 30, 1932, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Gearhart) Buchanan. Her husband, Charles E. Collanbine, died in 1992. She is survived by children, Charles C. Collanbine, Lorraine, Ohio, Edward C. Collanbine, Timber Hollow Road, Lewistown, and Delores Worthington, 6515 SR 103 South, McVeytown; brother and sisters, Raymond Buchanan and Mrs. Guy (Helen) Rhodes, both of McVeytown and Irene Collanbine, Port Royal; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy L. Bilger, two brothers and one sister. She was a nurse's aide at Black's Hospital and Lewistown Hospital, retiring due to disability in 1973. She attended Bethel AME Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Atticus S. Collins, 5 months, of 21 Pannebaker Ave., Lewistown, died at 4:48 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Jan. 19, 2001, at Danville, he was the son of Michael A. and Rachel R. (Ort) Collins of 21 Pannebaker Ave., Lewistown. Also surviving are: brother and sister, Bo Lee Duke and Cheyanne Alyn Duke, both at home; maternal grandparents, Connie Ort of 19 Corner St., Milroy and Timothy Ort of Mount Pieler, IN; paternal grandparents, Larry and Debra L. Collins of 1 Snook Ave., Lewistown; maternal great-grandparents, Vivian Bedlyon of 9 Corner St., Milroy and Beatrice Ort of Indiana; and paternal great-grandparents, William Harlon of Yeagertown and Carolyn Harlon of Lewistown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Hazel M. Horner Collins, 87, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown and formerly of 410 Freedom Ave., Burnham, died at 11:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 24, 1913, in McAlevy's Fort, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Lucy (Hassinger) Wilson. She was preceded in death in 1965 by her first husband, Daniel A. Horner, and in 1987 by her second husband, Samuel Collins. Surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Clara) Miller of 388 Country Lane, Lewistown, Russell E. Horner of Jonestown, Lucy Hartley of Walnut Street, Burnham and Mrs. Gary (Peggy) Zook of Pleasant Acres, Lewistown; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. She was a homemaker, but early in life had worked at the American Viscose Corporation and Goss Candy Company. She was a member of the Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Ohesson Manor. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. DOVER - Richard E. Colpetzer, 53, of 1548 Hunter Drive, Dover, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home. Born Sept. 23, 1947, in Belleville, he was the son of Walter E. and Mirian A. (Peter) Colpetzer of Belleville. Also surviving are: children, Steve Colpetzer and Deanne Hess, both of York; brothers and sisters, John E. Colpetzer, Donald E. Colpetzer and Stanley Colpetzer, all of Belleville, Winona Garber and Brenda Waldo, both of Ashland, Ohio; and four grandchildren. He retired after 20 years of service in the United States Air Force. He was a state government revenue auditor. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with the Rev. Thomas D. Bellis officiating.
MCVEYTOWN - Lester T. Colyer Jr., 63, of 13 Canal St., McVeytown, died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 26, 1937, in Lewistown, he was the son of Betty (Moyer) Colyer of Lewistown and the late Lester T. Colyer Sr. His wife, Barbara (Sweitzer) Colyer, whom he married Aug. 22, 1985, survives. Also surviving are: children, Kenneth T. Colyer Sr., Lewistown, Ann M. Colyer, McVeytown, and Carole L. Colyer, Mount Union; a grandson, whom he was raising, Allen M. Colyer, at home; sister and brother, Betty M. Colyer, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Terry L. Colyer, Kingsburg, NJ; half-brother, Patrick Britt, Lewistown; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers. He was a self-employed contractor, retired due to disability. He was Baptist by faith. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Donald Peters officiating. There will be no viewing. Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
MILROY - Charles W. "Chip" Condo, 76, of 148 N. Main St., Milroy, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his residence. Born May 18, 1924, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Hazel J. (Baker) Condo. His wife, Louise N. (Nale) Condo, whom he married July 21, 1951, survives. Also surviving are: children, Charlene L. Lenig and Todd C. Condo, both of Reedsville; a sister, Joyce M. Bittner, Milroy; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret E. Alexander. He was a United States Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the 391st Bomb Group. He was a manufacturing engineer at the Standard Steel, Burnham for 38 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy; the BPOE Lodge 663, Lewistown; and the Milroy American Legion Post 287. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy, with the Rev. Rosalie Smith officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 51 McClay St., Milroy, PA 17063 or to Sun Home Health Hospice, 2 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
CONCORD - Merle E. Coons, 65, of Main Street, Concord, died at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born May 8, 1935, in Concord, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Clara (Yocum) Coons. His wife, Leona B. (Scott) Coons, whom he married Aug. 9, 1960, survives. He is also survived by children, Mark A. Coons, Blairs Mills, Luke D. Coons, Spring Run, and Nicole L. Wrights, Shippensburg; brother and sisters, Norman Coons, Nyesville, Pauline George, Willow Hill, Marion Sanders, Chambersburg, and Velma Weiser, Newville; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was an electrician employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was Protestant by faith. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, Central Pennsylvania Chapter. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the John L. Agett Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, with Pastor Judy Rowles and the Rev. Marlin Neil officiating. Interment will be in Concord Union Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by members of the McCartney Post 232 American Legion Honor Guard.
