LEWISTOWN - Lois E. Cramer, 65, of 26 W. Market St., Lewistown, died at 4:55 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born April 15, 1935, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Clair (Ely) Cramer. She is survived by children, Mrs. William (Diane) Davis, 5340 Back Maitland Road, McClure, Carmen M. Simonetti, Harrisburg, Timothy E. Simonetti, Dover, Mrs. David (Maria) Shugarts, Mount Union, and Mrs. Curtis (Teresa) Miller, Prattville, Ala.; sisters, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Kauffman, Lewistown and Marjorie J. Weston, Niles, Ohio; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. She was a homemaker. She was Methodist by faith. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Karen McCachren, Director of Caring Ministries, officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Esther M. Crawford, 87, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of Yeagertown, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 27, 1914, in Shamokin, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Maude (Zerby) Adams. Her husband of 61 years, Russell "Uppy" Crawford, died in August of 1997. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Harvey (Kay D.) Wilson, Harrisburg and Russell Crawford, Lewistown; a sister, Mildred Strickland, South Hampton; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Adams. She was a 1932 graduate of Yeagertown High School and was salutatorian of the class. Earlier in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation and the Chief Logan School District. She was a member of the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, its Sunday school class and the Chief Logan Mingo Club. Her service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Philip C. Tundel officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. DUNCANNON - Harold L. "Mike" Crawford, 73, of Duncannon, formerly of Lewistown, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001 in Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon. Born March 27, 1928 in Yeagertown, he was a son of the late Walter and Urilda (Mauery) Crawford. His wife Gertrude B. Crawford survives. Also surviving are: a daughter and son, Deborah A. Heisey, Marysville and Terry S. Crawford, Dallas, TX; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James N. Crawford and Walter "Bud" Crawford. He was a retired machinist from Conrail, Harrisburg. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church, Marysville. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 882 Marysville, the West Shore Elks Lodge, Camp Hill, the Sportsmans Golf Club, Harrisburg and the Railroad Golf League, Harrisburg. He was a former head coach for the Heights Bombers Little League Football Team, Lewistown. He was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan, Penn State football fan and Susquenita High School football and wrestling fan. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Wesley United Methodist Church, Marysville. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Michael J. Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville. MCCOYSVILLE - Jay B. Crawford, 87, of McCoysville, died at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 17, 1913, in McCoysville, he was a son of the late Samuel B. and Alice (Henry) Crawford. His wife, Mildred (Wertz) Crawford survives. Also surviving are: a foster sister, Helen Cooper Fanus, Gardners, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph H. Crawford, two half-brothers, Bryan and Milton Crawford, and two half-sisters, Frances Crawford and Bessie Barton. He was a 1931 graduate the Port Royal High School. He was a self-employed farmer who had the first corn picker in the area. He picked corn on farms from Spruce Hill to Huntingdon County using both single and double-row pickers. For 20 years, he worked as a Pioneer Corn salesman. He served as a school board director of the Tuscarora Township School District for two terms, and served one term as a board member of the Juniata County School District. He also served as a past treasurer for the Eastern Milk Producers, and was a former director for the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. He was a member, elder and Sunday school teacher, as well as a lay speaker and former treasurer of the McCoysville Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Tuscarora Grange No. 774. His invention, a hydraulically controlled side-hill hitch, was borrowed and copied by a machine company. He also made his own rubber-tired wagon and built his own unloading wagons before machine companies had any for sale in the area. The bale wagons he built are still in use after more than 40 years. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McCoysville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Frank Muse officiating. Interment will be in the McCoysville Cemetery. The will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the McCoysville Presbyterian Church, Barbara Hutchinson, Treasurer, HC67, Mifflin, PA 17058, or to the local chapters of the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. The Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
MIFFLINTOWN - Margaret E. Crawford, 93, of Mifflintown RR3, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin HC67. Born Sept. 11, 1907, in Milford Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Christopher and Bessie (Nipple) Bossinger. Her husband, Jesse E. Crawford, preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1967. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William Bossinger, Leslie Bossinger and Lloyd Bossinger, and by a sister, Mary Lewis. She worked in the reeling room of the American Viscose Corporation from 1928 until her retirement in 1967. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Mifflintown RR3. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, and from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, RR3, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
YORK - Milford H. "Pet" Crawford, 89, of 1770 Barley Road, York, formerly of Lewistown, died at 12:35 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services North, York. Born Sept. 19, 1911, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late Orie and Gertrude Jane (Folk) Crawford. His wife, Louise S. (Cooper) Crawford, died Feb. 7, 1988. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Thomas (Nina) Albright, York, Larry C. Crawford, Reedsville, and Steely C. Crawford, Morganton, NC; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He retired in January 1975 from the tire fabric department of the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown, after 43 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown. He was also a member and past Exulted Ruler of BPOE Lodge 663, Lewistown, where he served in many other lodge offices and was head of the Cerebral Palsy Drive. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown. Interment will be private. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
MCVEYTOWN - Sara Mort Crawford, 85, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, formerly of McVeytown and Mount Union, died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the nursing home. Born April 4, 1915, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Plummer and Cora (Dunmire) Ramsey. Her first husband, William T. Mort, preceded her in death on May 21, 1957. Her second husband, the Rev. Frank Crawford, preceded her in death in May of 1978. Surviving are: children, Kenneth W. Mort, Conyers, GA, Robert T. Mort, Box 1170, Mifflintown RR1, and Raymond C. Mort, Pueblo West, CO; a sister, Mabel I. Bilger, Alexandria; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn D. Ramsey, and by four sisters, Ruth Mellott, Evelyn Gilbert, Pauline Gisewhite and Emma Lape. She was a homemaker, who worked as a self-employed seamstress and also as a bookkeeper for 16 years at Raystown Fishing and Hunting. She was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church, where in her early years she taught Sunday school and Bible school for may years. She was a former member of the Allenport United Methodist Church. She had served on the Mifflin County Board of Girl Scouts, and was a charter member of the Mount Union Historical Society. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Marian E. Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Avenue Ext., Lewistown, PA 17044.
ENOLA - Betty J. Crossland, 79, of 57 Oliver Road, Enola, died at 2:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Cora (Columbine) DeArment. Her husband, Harry Robert Crossland, died July 6, 1976. Surviving are: a son, Dale S. Crossland, Summerdale; a sister, Rhoda Ramsey, Burnham; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters. She was a production employee for Book of the Month Club, Mechanicsburg. Her service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in the Vira Methodist Cemetery, Vira. Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
