BURNHAM - James Daniel Daddario, 72, of 606 E. Freedom Ave., Apt. B, Burnham, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center. Born May 4, 1929, in Mifflin County, he was the son of the late James F. and Ruth N. (Royer) Daddario. His wife, Doreen A. (Freet) Daddario, died Feb. 27, 1980. Surviving are: children, Jennifer R. Daddario, Columbia, KY, Andrew E. Daddario, Reedsville, Mrs. Todd (Amy S.) Stuter, Enola, Mrs. Jake (Rebecca M.) Stewart, Burnham, and Timothy J. Daddario, Lewistown; a cousin, who was raised by his parents, Bud Royer, Shindle; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant sister. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Corp. He was a graduate of Shippensburg State College and received his masters degree from Bucknell University. He was a teacher in the Mifflin County School District for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He was last employed at Burnham Hardware and was a volunteer at Lewistown Hospital. He was a member of the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, Belleville and was a former Sunday school teacher. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John M. Keefer Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, 81 Wagner St., Belleville, PA 17004.
BURNHAM - Thomas S. Dagnell, 90, a resident of Ohesson Manor, formerly of the Freedom Avenue Trailer Park, Burnham, died at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001 at Ohesson Manor, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown. Born March 19, 1911 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Harry S. and Anne M. (Stover) Dagnell. His wife, Leota (Miller) Dagnell, preceded him in death in 1971. Surviving are: a brother and two sisters, Paul A. Dagnell and Kathryn Miller, both of Belleville, and Grace Graham, Mifflin. Early in life, he worked at the Susquehanna Silk Mill in Lewistown and at the Royale Dairy, Lewistown, and then worked as a meter man for the Borough of Lewistown, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lewistown. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Grange and the Fort Granville Grange. A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Jeffery McCleary officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 111 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
BELLEVILLE - Marian B. Dahlen, 95, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of Belleville, died at 3:06 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Valley View Haven. Born March 1, 1906, in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Bessie M. (Welfley) Bulick. Her husband, Dr. Maxwell T. Dahlen, died Jan. 10, 1965. She is survived by a sister, Winona G. Jones, Westville, NJ; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by daughters, Madeline Kennedy and Kathleen Bonfiglio; a son, Frederick J. Dahlen; sisters, Margaret B. Famous and Hazel B. Young; and a brother, Raymond E. Bulick. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Belleville, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women. She was also a life member of the Lewistown Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Belleville Fire Company Auxiliary, the Lady Greenwood Lodge 308 Rebekahs, and was a Girl Scout leader. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Belleville, with the Rev. Lois Martin officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John Lutheran Church, PO Box 5716, Belleville, PA 17004. The Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, is in charge of arrangements.
PORT ROYAL - Fay M. Dalton, 99, of Port Royal RR2, died at 12:39 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at her home. Born March 27, 1902, in Port Royal, she was the daughter of the late William and Grace (Walton) Hockenberry. Her husband, Samuel F. Dalton, died April 24, 1972. Surviving are: children, John W. Dalton, Port Royal RR3, Esther Grott, Hemet, CA and Betty Klase, Port Royal RR2; 14 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 36 great-great- grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by: three sons, Shelley, Stewart and Melvin Dalton; a daughter, Mabel Whistler; two brothers; three sisters; one grandchild, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Matamoris United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with the Rev. Frank Swartz officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery. Friends may call noon-9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. YEAGERTOWN - Sarah E. "Betty" Daubert, 79, formerly of South Main Street, Yeagertown, died at 2:01 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born Sept. 17, 1921, in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Ethel (McClellan) Dunn. Her husband, Vernon Daubert Sr., died in 1967. Surviving are: children, Vernon Daubert Jr., 502 N. Beech St., Burnham and Mrs. Michael (Shirley) Bedelyon, 1750 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was employed by the Mifflin County School District in the cafeteria at Chief Logan High School. She was a member of the Yeagertown United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home. STATE COLLEGE - Laurena C. "Laure" Daughenbaugh, 100, formerly of Mifflintown, and most recently of State College, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Brookline Village, State College. Born May 15, 1900, in Milesburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Mollie (Whippo) Shope. Her husband, Clyde E. Daughenbaugh preceded her in death in November of 1982. She is survived by one daughter, Mandalen M. Myers, Philipsburg; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a school teacher. She taught in a one-room school in Hannah Furnace, from 1918 to 1923 and from 1941 to 1946. She was a Methodist by faith. She was an artist and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with people. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg, with the Rev. Steve Millinder officiating. Interment will be in the Bald Eagle Cemetery, Bald Eagle. Friends may call 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
MIFFLINTOWN - William F. Daup, 74, of 415 Village Drive, Mifflintown, died at 12:49 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 1, 1927, in Centre Hall, he was the son of the late Daniel S. and Harriet (Frazier) Daup. His wife, Barbara (Messner) Daup, whom he married May 3, 1952, survives. He is also survived by a son, William D. Daup of Burnham. He was a graduate of Centre Hall High School and Penn State University. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was the owner of Daup's Garage, Mifflintown; worked for the General State Authority, Harrisburg; and as an inspector for Penn State University. He was also a construction trades teacher at East Juniata High School, retiring in l987. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mifflin, and Sunday School Class 11. He was also a member of Union Lodge 324 F&AM, Mifflintown; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Valley Forest 88; the Harrisburg Consistory; the Mifflintown VFW; and a life member of the Mifflintown Hose Company. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. James R. Harper officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Friends may call 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a masonic service conducted by Union Lodge at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box F, Mifflin, PA 17058.
LEWISTOWN - Sara M. Davis, 90, a resident of Locust Grove Retirement Village, formerly of 59 Spanogle Ave., Lewistown, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin HCR67. Born April 2, 1910 in Honey Grove, she was a daughter of the late William and Lottie M. (Hockenberry) Geedy. Her husband, Robert M. Davis, preceded her in death in 1984. Her first husband, Harold E. Singley Sr., preceded her in death in 1949. Surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Violet "Arlene") Pennebaker, Lancaster, Mrs. Harry (Edith) Fogleman and Mrs. Percy (Miriam) Masters, whom she helped raise, both of Mifflintown; brothers and sisters, Martha Clemens, Jersey Shore and Charles Coder, Mifflin; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty M. Crownover, and by a son, Harold E. Singley Jr. She was also preceded in death by two brothers. She worked as a production employee for the American Viscose Corporation until retirement in 1972. She was Methodist by faith. She was a former member of the ladies auxiliary of the Lewistown Moose Lodge. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Claude Baublitz officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
