MIFFLIN - Paul R. "Hobo Mac" Ellis, 91, of Mifflin, died at 11:53 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1909, in Philadelphia. He was United States Army veteran of World War II and a Catholic by faith. His service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. John A. Rocco officiating. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewing will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. The Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
CALEDONIA, NY - Bernice I. Emery, 57, of Caledonia, NY, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Born Aug. 11, 1943, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Fultz) Dean. Her husband, Mike Emery, preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Frew and Jeremy Emery, both of Caledonia, NY, Teresa Emery, Rochester, NY and Mrs. Bryan (Michelle) Bogle, Florida; brothers, Clint Dean, Ellsworth Dean, John Dean, and Richard Dean, all of Pennsylvania; and nine grandchildren; She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Ammond. She was employed at the Caledonia-Mumford School District as a bus driver. She also taught swimming lessons in Caledonia, NY, for over 20 years. She was certified by the American Red Cross in Advanced Lifesaving. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Caledonia Variety Show for many years and served on the Caledonia Recreation Board. She played Mrs. Claus for many years durġng the Home Town Holidays. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 3080 West Main Street, Caledonia, NY, with the Rev. Nancy Reinert officiating. Interment will be held at St. Columba Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia, NY. MILROY - Eugenia "Mitzi" Englander, 63, of 29 McClay St., Milroy, died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 19, 1937, in New Jersey, she was the daughter of Ruth (Jennings) Montanye of Butler, NJ and the late Adolph Montanye. She is also survived by a daughter, Kelly Montanye of 29 McClay St., Milroy; brother and sister, Charles Montanye, Easton and Sharon Jennings, Port Jervis, NY; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister. She was employed as a waitress at Red's Diner. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
LIVERPOOL - Norwood Daniel Engle, 87, of Liverpool RR2, died at 9:35 a.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Stonebridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon. Born July 8, 1913, in Berrysburg, he was the son of the late Norman and Lottie Mae (Keebaugh) Engle. His wife, Mildred Eleanor (Crone) Engle, whom he married April 8, 1943, died July 19, 1989. He is survived by four sons, Albert K. Engle, Robert N. Engle and Richard L. Engle, all of Liverpool RR2 and Ralph E. Engle, Millerstown RR2; a sister, Evelyn Shenk, Linglestown; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Engle Sr. and Kenneth Engle. He was educated at the Edison Junior High School, Harrisburg. He was employed as a stationary engineer at the Harrisburg Steel Corporation, Harrisburg, retiring in 1975 after 37 years. He was Protestant by faith. He was a life member of the Penbrook Fire Co.; a member of the Liverpool Fire Co. & Liverpool Ambulance League; a 50+ year member of the Basset Hound Club of America; an original member, president and director of the Susquehanna Basset Hound Club; a member of the Lenape Basset Hound Club; the Patroon Basset Hound Club; the Valley Forge Basset Hound Club; and the Capital District Basset Hound Club. He was a former member of the Liverpool Lions Club and was a former Greenwood School Board director for 20 years. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and basset hounds. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, with Pastor Jerry L. Small of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Stroudsburg, officiating. Interment will be in St. John (Barner's) Cemetery, Liverpool RR1. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Edward J. English Sr., 69, of South Brown St., Lewistown, died at 11:07 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born June 13, 1932, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Cutler) English. His wife, Doris (Ruby) English, whom he married April 30, 1954, survives. Also surviving are: children, Sharon Lucci, Debra Ventimiglia and Edward J. English Jr., all of Lewistown and Steven English, Yeagertown; a sister, Barbara Knode, Harrisburg; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph English. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Marines, during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Standard Steel for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Moose Lodge 143 and a life member of the Brooklyn Hose Company. The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jeff McCleary officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, where military graveside services will be held by VFW Post 7011. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. John D. Erhart Sr., 67, of Ridgley Avenue, Lewistown, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Born Feb. 4, 1934, in Belleville, he was a son of the late John N. and Thelma (Rowles) Erhard. His wife, Betty M. (Willard) Erhart, preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1996. Surviving are: children, John D. Erhart Jr., Karen R. Erhart, Donald D. Erhart, David Allen Whitesel, Steven M. Erhart, Karl E. Erhart, Mrs. Donald (Wanda) Baumgardner and Dona J. Erhart, all of Lewistown, Mrs. Robert (Debra) Kirk, Port Royal, James N. Erhart, Belleville, Linda K. Erhart Wallick, Reedsville; brothers and sister, Harry R. Erhard, Port Royal RR2, Lee E. "Red" Erhard and Janice "Sis" Zeiders, both of Mifflintown RR3; grandchildren, Heather Weaver, Danielle and Dustin Kirk, Travis Erhart, Mikiah Hendricks, Andrew and Nikki Wallick, Brianne, Schae, and Sierra Baumgardner, Joshua and Lindsey Erhart, Michael and Matthew Erhart; and great-grandsons, Zachary Goss and Trevor Weaver. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery Albert Kirk. He was employed by Norlin Warehousing, Lewistown, as a warehouse manager/trucker. He was a member of Schrader United Methodist Church, Reedsville, where he was a lay speaker and an adult Sunday school teacher. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Marshall Decker officiating. Interment will be in Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. MIFFLIN - John N. "Pappy" Erhard, 93, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin HC63, formerly of Port Royal RR2, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Dec. 3, 1907, in Centre Hall, he was a son of the late George W. and Catherine (Raymond) Erhard. His wife Thelma (Rowles) Erhard preceded him in death on June 10, 1970. Surviving are: children, John D. Erhart, Lewistown, Harry R. Erhard, Port Royal RR2, and Lee E. "Red" Erhard and Janice "Sis" Zeiders, both of Mifflintown RR3; a brother and sister, Harry Erhard, Allensville and Ruth Snyder, Yeagertown; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Erhard and Robert Erhard. He was a retired farmer. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Belleville. LEWISBERRY - Mary Grace Esh, 76, of Lewisberry, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in Emory East Side Medical Center, Snellville, Ga. Born June 5, 1924, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Florence (Harshbarger) Ziegler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Esh. She is survived by a daughter, Lori E. Fink, Snellville, Ga. and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Esh. She was a member of Wyndamere Heights Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisberry and the Hershey Chorus. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Wyndamere Heights Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisberry, with the Rev. Tim Seiger, officiating. Interment will be in Tri-County Memorial Gardens, Lewisberry. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: U.F.M.
