LEWISTOWN - Kathleen "Kathy" F. Fox Gage, 51, of 172 Crossover Dr., Lewistown, died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center. Born on Sept. 23, 1949, in Lebanon, she was the daughter of Irene K. (Kreider) Fox, Lebanon, and the late George H. Fox. Her husband, Donald D. Gage, whom she married on March 23, 2000, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Kristen Gilbert of Carol Stream, IL; a son, Kenneth Kleinfelter of Milroy; two sisters, Arbelyn Habig of Watkins Glen, NY, and Mrs. Michael P. (Marilyn E.) Hollis of Lebanon; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey K. Kleinfelter. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville. She was a 1967 graduate of Cedar Crest High School and she received her bachelor's degree from Shippensburg College in 1971. She then received her graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Earlier in life, she was a volunteer at her hometown hospital and she was an active member of her church, where she served on multiple committees and the church council. She also sang in the choir. Most recently, she was in manufacturing as an order entry specialist for Mann Edge Tool Co., Lewistown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Evangelical Church, Lebanon. Interment will be at Iona "Fairview" Cemetery, Lebanon. There will be no viewing. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church. A memorial service will also be held at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Maitland Church of the Brethren, Crossover Road, Lewistown. Memorial contributions can be made to Penn State University UD Life Lion, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033. Christman's Funeral Home, 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon is handling the funeral arrangements.
WATSONTOWN - Mary R. Galbreath, 58, of 8 West Fourth Street, Watsontown, died Monday evening, March 26, 2001, at her home. Born April 10, 1942, in Lewistown,she was a daughter of the late Calvin Walter and Nellie (Hess-Huff) Galbreath. She is survived by a companion of eight years, Anna M. Hruska, Watsontown; sisters and brothers, Patricia Aitkins, McClure, Mrs. Clair (Virginia) Hampton, Mexico and Mrs. Jack (Rose) Lambert, Bellefonte, Roy Mateer Jr., Milroy, Charles Huff and Richard Huff, both of Mifflin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother, Dorothy A. Wolfkiel, Frances Blose, Thelma Heyne and Russell Huff. She was a graduate of Kishacoquillas High School, Reedsville. Over the years she was employed by FMC in Lewistown, Zenith in Watsontown, and West Pharmaceutical in Montgomery and Williamsport. She attended the Salvation Army Church, Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Watsontown Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Watsontown, with the Rev. Elizabeth Affsprung officiating. Interment will be in the Watsontown Cemetery, Watsontown. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. CARLISLE - Ida Seraphia Ganoe, 98, a resident of the Chapel Point Retirement Community, Carlisle, formerly of Lewistown, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001. Born Feb. 10, 1903, in Swedetown, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Lottie (Gustanson) Johnson. Her husband, George L. Ganoe, with whom she will be reunited in heaven, died in 1985. Surviving are: a daughter, Janet C. Jones, Valencia; two sons, Richard L. Ganoe, Franklin, CT and Glenn A. Ganoe, Grantham; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle and the Juniata Terrace, Lewistown. Following a private viewing and committal, a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Pointe, 700 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be sent in her memory to Chapel Pointe. The Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.
BURNHAM - Mary A. Gantz, 86, of 610 Wood St., Burnham, died at 7:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown. Born Feb. 14, 1914, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Susie E. (Hull) Galvin. Her husband, Norman R. Gantz Sr., died April 27, 1989. Surviving are: sons, Norman R. Gantz Jr., 442 Lower Creek Road, Milroy and Robert L. Gantz, 341 Church Lane, Reedsville; brother and sisters, Clarence L. Galvin, Hagerstown, Md., Mrs. Harvey (Nora) Miller, Media, Mrs. James (Olene) Harmon and Mrs. Harry (Betty) Cramer, both of Philadelphia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. She retired from the American Viscose Corporation in 1976 after more than 40 years of service. She was a member of the Reedsville United Methodist Church. Funeral services at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home and interment at Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville, will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Richard J. Bender will officiate. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham. Family will provide all funeral flowers and memorial contributions may be made to Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
THOMPSONTOWN - Mahlon D. "Curly" Garland, 69, of Thompsontown RR2 (Locust Run), died at 1:59 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in the emergency room at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 2, 1931, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late William E. and Annie (Makins) Garland. His wife, Patricia J. (Freed) Garland, whom he married July 17, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Deena Leeanne Baxter, Darla Kay Supplee, both of Thompsontown RR2, and Tracy Lynn Powell, Mifflintown RR1; one brother, Marlin P. "Skip" Garland, Mifflintown; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis E. Garland and William C. Garland, and a sister, Lois Rae Kirk, and an infant sister. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mifflintown, Thompsontown Lions Club, Walker Grange 786 and had served as the leader of Boy Scout Troop 60 of Mifflintown. He was a 1949 graduate of Juniata Joint High School and had attended Steven's Technical Trade School, Lancaster. He retired on disability in 1990 from Machine Shop #1 of Standard Steel, Burnham. His funeral service is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Mifflintown, with the Rev. Ronald Shupe officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown RR4. The Juniata County Veterans Council will provide military burial honors. Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, HC 63, Box 30, Mifflintown, PA 17059. Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown is handling the arrangements.
PHOENIX, AZ - Hope Fitzgerald Garrett, 88, of Phoenix, AZ, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001. She was born July 16, 1912, in Lewistown. Her husband, John L. Garrett of Phoenix, AZ, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Dean Larson of Phoenix, AZ and Don Larson of Tucson, AZ; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She retired from doing department store displays at many stores such as Ward's, Penney's and others. Services were held in Phoenix, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th St., Tempe, AZ 85282. The A.L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
MOUNT UNION - Lester R. Gearhart, 86, of 36 Milford St., Mount Union, died at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his home. Born Aug. 9, 1915, in Newton Hamilton, he was the son of the late William and Blanche (Clemens) Gearhart. His wife, Mary (Weko) Harris Gearhart, whom he married June 18, 1972, at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union, survives. Also surviving are: children, Loretta Rauch, Casa Grande, AZ, Darryl Gearhart, David Gearhart and Rose Vaughan, all of McVeytown; stepchildren, Rita Wagner, Mount Union, Nancy Wagner, Belleville and Penny Thompson, Huntingdon; twin brother, Leslie Gearhart, McVeytown; 12 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 29 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Cloyd Gearhart and Larry Gearhart; stepdaughter, Tina Harris; two grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and 10 brothers and sisters. His entire life, he was a self-employed dairy farmer and was a commercial fertilizer salesman for Cramer's of York. He also drive school bus for Royer Smith for 25 years. He was a member of the CMA Church in Mount Union, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, treasurer, church elder and taught the Men's Bible Class. His service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the CMA Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Stephen Motter and the Rev. William Wollett officiating. Burial will be in Atkinson Mills Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.
BURNHAM - Rhoda P. Geibel, 85, of 501 Wood St., Burnham, died at 6:22 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center. Born Aug. 24, 1915, in Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel A. and Anne Mae (Harder) Comp. Her husband, John F. Geibel, died Sept. 7, 1981. Surviving are: a son, John C. Geibel, 210 Third Ave., Burnham; sister and brother, Mrs. Agustus (Annamae) Putt, Mechanicsburg and Daniel Coldren, Enola; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She was a graduate of the Enola High School and the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was also active with the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Walnut Street UMC, 203 N. Walnut St., Burnham, PA 17009.
