MCCLURE - Carl R. "Dick" Getz, 70, of McClure, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born July 29, 1930, in Beaver Springs, he was the son of the late Roy and Mae (DeLong) Getz. He is survived by a son, Joshua Getz, McClure, a sister, Madeline Eisenhauer, Selinsgrove and a brother, Donald Getz McAlisterville. He was preceded in death by a brother, F. LeRoy Getz in 1990. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served as curator of exhibits at the State Museum in Harrisburg. He also started the Getz Barrel Shop, Beavertown in the mid-seventies with his brother, Donald. He was known for his wildlife paintings, restoration of flintlocks, firearms, fishing rods and antiques. He loved fly-fishing and hunting. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Friends and family will gather informally at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701. BELLEVILLE - Mildred K. Gibboney, 89, a resident of Valley View Haven, formerly of Clover Ave., Yeagertown, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, at Valley View. Born April 6, 1912, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Mabel (Hearn) Musser. Her husband, Willis M. Gibboney, died Feb. 4, 1991. Surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Jerome S. (Jane) Howe, 157 Scenic Drive, Lewistown and Mrs. Ronald (Susan) Brady, Earlysville, VA; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Frederick E. Musser, in July of 1998 and a son, John W. Gibboney in February of 2000. She was a 1930 graduate of Yeagertown High School. Early in life, she was owner/operator of Gibboney's Store in Yeagertown and later worked as a cafeteria cook for the Mifflin County School District. She was a member of the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, where she taught Class 6 of the Sunday school for many years. She was a former member of the Lewistown Chapter 283, Order of the Eastern Star. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar and the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Yeagertown Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham. LEWISTOWN - Susan M. Gibler, 45, of 619 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at her residence. Born May 5, 1956, in Ligonier, she was the daughter of Donald M. and Patricia (Maisak) Johnston of 114 Tall Timber Drive, Ligonier. Surviving are: children, Melissa Hollobaugh and Donald Gibler, both at home; brothers and sister, Keith Johnston, Ligonier, Karen Johnston, San Francisco, CA, and Eric Johnston, Coral Springs, FL. She was preceded in death by an infant sister. She was employed as a home health aide. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown, with the Rev. Dolores M. Calhoun officiating. A private graveside service, at the convenience of the family, will be held in St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Cemetery, Ligonier, with the Rev. Jim Simons officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Gerald Laten "Fat" Gilbert, 70, of 179 Orchard Grove Ave., Lewistown, died of cancer Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his home. Born Aug. 17, 1930, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Harvey and Stella (Rose) Gilbert. His wife, Joyce (Breon) Gilbert of 179 Orchard Grove Ave., Lewistown, survives. Also surviving are: children, Jerry Gilbert of Levittown, Daryl Gilbert and Alan Gilbert, both of Fairless Hills; three brothers, Harvey Gilbert of Belleville, Robert Gilbert of Carlisle and Richard Gilbert of York; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Gilbert. He retired as a machinist from United States Steel Fairless Works, Fairless Hills, after 35 years of service. He was a member of Moose Lodge 2006 of Fairless Hills and a life member of the Yeagertown Fire Company. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, Mann Avenue, Yeagertown, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, Mann Avenue, Yeagertown, PA 17099. The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, is in charge of arrangements.
SELINSGROVE - Mary G. Gilbert, 88, of Selinsgrove, formerly of Beavertown, died at 1:10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, where she had been a resident for the past year. Born June 6, 1912, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Holmes and Alice (Cleveland) Pannebaker. Her husband, Max L. Gilbert, whom she married in 1946, died Nov. 11, 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Judith L. Gilbert, Selinsgrove; two brothers, Frank Pannebaker, Plant City, Fla. and Frank Yocum, Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Rossetti, Isabelle Baglione, Ann Mitchell and Dorothy Rigel. She retired from the former Beavertown Weaving Mill in 1975 after many years in the entering department. Earlier in life, she had worked at the former American Viscose, Lewistown. She attended St. Pius X Catholic Church, Selinsgrove. She loved to read and play the lottery. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Joseph A. Celia officiating. Interment will be in the Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Snyder County Library, 1 N. High St., Selinsgrove, PA 17870 or the charity of one's choice.
MANHEIM - Leonell M. "Gil" Gilchrist, 76, of 1343 Graystone Road, Manheim, died Monday morning Nov. 5, 2001, at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, following a brief illness. Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Melvin E. and Dorothy (Rupe) Gilchrist. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Crotzer) Gilchrist, who died in September of 1989. Surviving are: a sister, Jane G. Goshorn of Manheim; two nephews, Richard M. married to Cindy Goshorn, of Brownstown and Steven D. married to Teri (Groff) Goshorn, of Manheim; two grand nephews and two grand nieces. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He received a bachelors of science degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University. Mr. Gilchrist worked as a mechanical engineer for Honeywell Corporation in Detroit, MI, retiring in 1969. He had an active interest in the investment financial stock markets. A lifetime sailing enthusiast, Gil sailed throughout the world traveling through the Caribbean Islands, ports of Spain, and most recently Trinidad, Venezuela. His funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, with the Rev. John F. Dieterly officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Friends may call 9 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. BEAVER SPRINGS - Alma Catherine Gill, 84, of RR 1, Beaver Springs, died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, following a brief illness. Born Nov. 2, 1917, in Beaver Springs, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Manin "Ben" and Blanche Elizabeth (Sole) Gilbert. She was the wife of the late P. Carson "Coon" Gill, who passed away June 13, 1996. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara A. Fultz of Beaver Springs RR1; two sons, Kenneth L. of Chambersburg and Phillip W. of Duncanville, TX; four grandchildren, Michael, Shawn, David and Katrina; three great-grandchildren, Jorden, Austin and Blake; and two brothers, H. Frank Gilbert and Carl R. Gilbert. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys and Mildred Gilbert, and a brother, Paul. She was a member of Christ Church, Beaver Springs, where she was active in making crafts and serving dinners. She had also been a member Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville, where she participated in the Ladies Aid Society, Sunday School, making blankets and serving dinners. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and attending the concerts in Haines Park, Beaver Springs. She had helped with the West Snyder Lions Club activities and was active with the meals during the Beaver Community Fair. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Church with the Rev. David Meckley officiating. Interment will be in the Troxelville Union Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. BEAVER SPRINGS - Mary P. Gill, 72, of Beaver Springs, died at 1:14 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at her home, following a two-year illness. Born April 5, 1929, in Beaver Springs, she was a daughter of the late William P. and Katherine (Shirey) Haines. Her husband, Joe A. Gill, whom she married May 3, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Greg (Mona) Bidelspach and Mrs. Todd (Carol) Bruch, both of Selinsgrove; a brother, Lewis Haines, Beaver Springs; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Haines in 1986. She owned and operated Mary's Beauty Shop from 1949-1953, in her home. She was also employed by the West Snyder High School Cafeteria, until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Christ Church, Beaver Springs, where she was active in various activities. She enjoyed crocheting and attending public sales. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. David Meckley officiating. Interment will be in the Adamsburg Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Evangelical Home Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
