LEWISTOWN - John O. Goddard, 90, of 227 Third St., Pleasant Acres, Lewistown, died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Ohesson Manor. Born April 30, 1911, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Oscar and Beulah (Foster) Goddard. His wife, Ann S. (Swanger) Goddard, whom he married in 1945, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Dale Goddard, Lewistown; sister and brother, Anna Mary Hackenberry, Reedsville and Donald Goddard, Barrville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Early in life, he worked at Clarance Saylor Construction, Mifflin and at Marlette Homes for 12 years. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church and the Masonic Lodge F&M 203. His service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Roger Reece officiating. Interment will be at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing.
LAKELAND, FL - Cindy Price Godshall, 43, of Lakeland, FL, died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at her home. Born May 11, 1958, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Fred Price and Lucretia Smith. Her husband, Donald Godshall, survives. Also surviving are: children Robert Godshall and Crystal Hachey; brothers and sisters, Cathy Kerstetter, Christine Tome, Ruthann Branch, Amy Smith, Bethann Ilgen, Cathy Smith and Robert Smith. She was preceded in death by a step-father, Robert Smith, and brothers, Samuel Scott Smith, Jerry Price and Terry Price. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m Saturday at the Bible Baptist Church, 107 Beech St., Burnham.
SELINSGROVE - Edna Mae Goodling, 87, of Selinsgrove RR1, died at 12:07 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born Nov. 6, 1913, in Snyder County, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Carrie (Hummel) Kline. Her husband, Herman J. Goodling, whom she married Jan. 14, 1931, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Lillian M. Mahoney, Selinsgrove RR1; two sisters, Lottie Miller, Kreamer and Florence Strawser, Sunbury; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Russell W. Goodling on June 18, 1985; a grandson, Kevin Patrick Mahoney, in infancy; seven brothers, John, Lester, William, Ralph, Earl, Henry and Mark Kline; five sisters, Minnie Shiltz, Rhoda Strawser, Sarah Goodling, Ruth Landis, and Esther Kline, in infancy. She was schooled in the Laurel Hill Grammar Schoolhouse in Juniata County. She was employed by the Selinsgrove Center, Selinsgrove for seven years and earlier was an assembly person for the JG Ott Packaging Company, Selinsgrove, for nearly 10 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the WELCA association of the church at Selinsgrove RR3 at Middlecreek Dam. She had also taught Sunday school at the church. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. John W. Harkins officiating. Interment will be in Dressler's Ridge United Methodist Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. NEWPORT - Walter D. "Butch" Goodling, 54, of Newport RR4, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Harrisburg Hospital. Born May 19, 1947, in Cocolamus, he was the son of Ralph and Mary (Fry) Goodling of Reedsville. His wife, Nina K. Goodling, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Donald Isenberg, Newport; a sister, G. Jean Bulick-Hoar, Reedsville; half-brother, Ralph Goodling Jr., McClure; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Justin and Chris. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was retired from the Mack Truck Remanufacturing Center. He was a member of the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, the Newport American Legion Post 177, where he was the past commander, and was a former driver for the Newport Ambulance League and the Newport Fire Company. He was also the 18th District Deputy Commander of the Pennsylvania American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the David M. Myers Funeral Home, Second and Walnut Streets, Newport, with the Rev. Jim Huskins officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, 1500 N. Second St., Harrisburg, PA 17102.
MCVEYTOWN - Cora E. Gordon, 92, of P.O. Box 303 McVeytown died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001 at the Malta Home for the Aging, Granville. Born Oct. 18, 1908 in Brush Creek Township, Fulton County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Frances (Rice) Miller. Her husband, George E. Gordon, whom she married March 17, 1929, in Bellefonte, preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1982. Surviving are: daughters, Ruth Trutt Adams, McVeytown and Marietta Woomer, Howard; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, one great-grandson, four brothers and two sisters. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at both the Bellefonte Hospital Willowbank and Centre Community Hospital, State College. She attended Glenwood United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Ladies Aid Society. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wetzler Funeral Home, Bellefonte, with the Rev. William Danis officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Bellefonte. Friend may call from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.
MIFFLINTOWN - Helen T. Goshorn, 70, of Mifflintown RR2, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 8, 1930, in Spruce Hill, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey and Pearl (McCormick) Taylor. Her husband, Samuel N. Goshorn, whom she married Dec. 24, 1947, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Samuel N. Goshorn Jr., Mifflintown RR1, William E. Goshorn, Mifflintown and Glenn R. Goshorn, Mifflintown RR5; brothers, James C. Taylor, Mifflintown RR3, Rev. Jack E. Taylor and Richard Taylor, both of McAlisterville RR2, Chauncey Taylor Jr, Port Allegheny, Kenneth R. Taylor, Lewistown, Robert A. Taylor, Anderson, SC, Graham Taylor, Port Royal RR1, and David Taylor, Hummelstown; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Taylor. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Mifflintown RR1; the American Folk Music Association District II; the Central Pennsylvania Caller's Association; the Harrisburg White Shrine; was Past Matron of Mifflin Chapter No. 260 Order of the Eastern Star; and Past Royal Patron and Past Royal Matron of Towpath Court No. 138 Order of Amaranth. She enjoyed sewing , needlework and crafts. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karl R. Herman officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 6:30-8:45 p.m. Thursday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Following the viewing at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, an Eastern Star memorial service will be conducted by the Mifflin Chapter. VINELAND, NJ - John P. Goshorn, 77, of the Vineland Memorial Veterans Home, Vineland, NJ, died at 7 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2001, at the Newcomb Hospital, Vineland, NJ. He was formerly of Weehawken, NJ, Union City, NJ, Old Bridge, NJ, Wilsden, Yorkshire, England, South River, NJ, Hightstown, NJ and East Waterford, Juniata County. Born April 10, 1924, in Seacaucus, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Elizabeth (Milak) Goshorn. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan F. (Shephard), and his second wife, Joyce A. (Hockenberry) Goshorn. Surviving are: two sons, Michael J. Goshorn, Chelsea, MI and Mark P. Goshorn, Barnegat, NJ; one brother, Charles Goshorn, Lake Ariel; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, David Goshorn, and one brother, James Goshorn. He retired from the Quality Control Department of Delmonte Foods, Dayton, NJ. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having attained the rank of sergeant, serving in the European Theatre and Korea and the New Jersey National Guard, Seagirt, NJ. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Town of Weehawken, NJ. He was a member of the Church of Our Lady St. Mary Refuge of Sinners, Doylesburg and American Legion Post 945. A Mass of Christian Burial was private and held at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Thomas C. Marickovic and the Rev. John A. Rocco officiating. Burial was in the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Waterloo, where full military burial honors were conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Joyce Goshorn Memorial Fund, c/o Juniata Valley Bank Trust Department, P.O. Box 66, Mifflintown, PA 17059. MCCLURE - Annabelle M. Goss, 79, of McClure, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove, where she had been a resident since 1993. Born June 12, 1921, in McClure, she was a daughter of the late Elder S. and Carrie L. (Krick) Wagner. Her husband, Glen L. "Moon" Goss, whom she married in 1943, died in 1992. She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 942 Ladies Auxiliary and the McClure Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed needlepoint and singing in the Glee Club of Penn Lutheran Village. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald A. (Linda L.) Scholl, Port Trevorton, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Glen Jr. in 1964 and two brothers, George and Arthur Wagner. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Friday at the McClure chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
