LEWISTOWN - David L. Goss, 80, of Rear 614 Maple Ave., Lewistown, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 28, 1920, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late William McKinley and Irma (Williams) Goss. His wife, Margaret A. (Folk) Goss, survives. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Donald P. Goss, Alfarata, Joseph R. Goss, Dillsburg, Mrs. John (Marian) True, Lewistown, and Mrs. Tom (Martha) Spearing, Reedsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Merrill W. Goss and Francis E. Goss. He was a 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was a United States Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was an auto upholsterer for Ganoe Motors, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ich Dien Sunday School Class. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, 120 N. EMPORIUM - Earl W. Goss, 87, a resident of Guy and Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at the manor. Born Oct. 13, 1913, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Harry and Frances (Thomas) Goss. He is survived by children, Gretchen Fragale, Michael Goss, Mark Goss, and Scott Goss, all of Emporium, Leon Goss, Grandville, and Dennis Goss, Lexington Park, Md.; a sister, Sarah Fisher, Lewistown; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Carl Goss and Nolan Goss; one sister and four brothers. He worked as a mechanic for the former Johnson Motors for 30 years and later owned and operated Earl's Exxon, Emporium. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Emporium, with the Rev. Bruce Burkness officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to any sportsmen's association or to the Emporium Fire Department, Emporium, PA 15834.
MCCLURE - Elizabeth Allison Goss, 17, of 1523 Snook Road, McClure, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on US Highway 522 North, McClure. Born July 17, 1984, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of Stanley C. and Linda (Frank) Kline Goss of 1523 Snook Road, McClure. Also surviving are: sisters, Mrs. Wesley (Tammy) Brought Sr., Middleburg, Mrs. Michael (Amy) Folk, McClure and Mrs. Eric (Christie) Simonetti, Milroy. She was preceded in death by a sister, Christina D. Goss in 1965. She was an honor roll student and a member of the senior class of Indian Valley High School. She was employed at Camp's Custard Cup, Beaver Springs. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dormantown Road, McClure, where she was a member of the ladies auxiliary and youth group. She was also a member of the Indian Valley Marching Band and Spanish Club; the Decatur Softball Team, and the Mifflin County 4-H Club. She was also accepted into the Mifflin County Big Brother/Big Sister Program. The service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Phillip C. Tundel and the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Dormantown Lutheran Cemetery, McClure. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 823 Dormantown Road, McClure, PA 17841.
LEWISTOWN - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Goss, 71, of Beverly Healthcare William Penn, Lewistown died at 8:12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare William Penn. Born March 4, 1929, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Jay M. and Violet (Lane) Shenk. Her husband Raymond L. "Bud" Goss Jr. preceded her in death in February 1997. Surviving are: children, Randall L. Shimp, Tyson, Vermont, Betsy Bagrosky, 2 Jenkins Lane, Lewistown, William R. Shimp, Lewistown RD2, James R. Shimp, 203 Deerwood Lane, McVeytown and Mrs. Brian (Barbara) Barton, Lemoyne; brothers, Jay M. Shenk, Kreamer and William Shenk, Mechanicsburg; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She worked as a bookkeeper at Empire Kosher, and earlier worked at the Arrow Division of Cluett Peabody & Company. She was a member of the Granville United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Mark Brower officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing, however, friends may call from noon Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Granville United Methodist Church, PO Box 310, Lewistown, PA 17044, or to the charity of one's choice.
MCCLURE - Glenn A. Goss, 73, of 119 Decatur Road, McClure, died at 5:12 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born July 11, 1927, in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late John Samuel and Nettie Ellen (Goss) Goss. He had been married to Pauline (Snyder) Goss, Lewistown. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Kraus, Thompsontown and John Goss, Fort Myers, Fla.; sisters and brother, Betty Haines, Beaver Springs, Mae Anna Lash and Ronald E. Goss, both of McClure; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Fultz on Dec. 18, 1996, and a brother, Robert Goss in 1917. In 1964, he retired from Meadowbrook Farms, Pottstown, where he drove truck for five years. He was also an employee in the dairy at Laurelockes Farms, Pottstown. Earlier in life, he also worked at Overhead Door Co., Lewistown and Marlette Homes, Lewistown. He was a member of Samuels Church, McClure, where he had been active in various church activities. He enjoyed playing baseball, hunting, fishing, swimming, and ice skating. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the McClure Chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, North Brown Street, McClure, with the Rev. Kelsey Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Samuels Church Cemetery. BELLEVILLE - James H. "Jap" Goss Jr., 40, of 17 Greenwood Road, Belleville, died at 11:50 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at his home. Born Dec. 12, 1960, in Lewistown, he was the son of Mary J. (Stuck) Goss of 4429 Back Maitland Road, McClure and the late James H. Goss Sr. His wife, Kathy L. (Erhard) Goss, whom he married this year, survives. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, April Stuck of Belleville; sisters and brother, Sherry A. Goss and Carol L. Mackneer, both of Lewistown, Mrs. William (Nancy) Leister and Timothy R. Goss, both of McClure. He served with the United States Army Reserves in Lewistown. He was a laborer at Donsco, Belleville. He was Lutheran by faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post 90, Lewistown; the East Derry Fire Company; the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Company; and the Fame Fire Company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, with Pastor Larry Siikanen officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. LEWISTOWN - Kevin E. Goss, 27, of U.S. Highway 522-North, Lewistown and formerly of McVeytown, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, following an automobile accident on Shade Mountain Road in Snyder County. Born Nov. 14, 1974, in Lewistown, he was the son of Robert L., Sr. and Donna K. (Fultz) Goss of Wakefield Road, McVeytown. His wife, Crystal L. (Johnson) Goss, whom he married Feb. 13, 1993, survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Elani A. Johnson and Amber N. Goss, both at home; three brothers and their wives, Robert L., Jr. and Rebecca (Heimbach) Goss of McVeytown, Terry J. and Grace (Covert) Goss of Port Royal, David A. and Melissa (Moist) Goss of McVeytown; and a paternal grandmother, Beatrice G. Goss of McVeytown. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Wilson Goss, Sr., and his maternal grandparents, Harry J. and Vada Mae Fultz. He was employed at Excel Homes in Liverpool. He attended the Ferguson Valley Brethren in Christ Church. He loved spending time with his daughters and enjoyed hunting, fishing and football. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ferguson Valley Brethren in Christ Church with the Pastor Kenneth Grove officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown. LEWISTOWN - Leon L. Goss, 83, of 2408 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, died at 10:12 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 27, 1917, in Maitland, he was a son of the late Earl W. and Ellen M. (Yeatter) Goss. His wife, Dollie R. V. (Weimer) Goss, whom he married Nov. 9, 1941, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Edwin L. (Diane) Weader, McClure, Janet L. Goss, Lewistown, and Jeffrey L. Goss, Mechanicsville, VA; a brother, Richard J. Goss, Lisburn; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford E. Goss Sr. Early in life, he worked for Goss's Flour and Feed Mill; was manager of the Weis Store in Reedsville; and worked for the American Viscose Corporation, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry and then for the Farmer's Home Administration, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Maitland Church of the Brethren, where he formerly served on the Trustee Board and was head usher and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He was former chairman of the Mifflin County Republican Party and was Republican Committeeman for East Derry Township. He was also a member of Lewistown Lodge 663 BPOE. He enjoyed baking, gardening and was an avid baseball fan. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Maitland Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Charles M. Eldredge officiating. Interment will be in Maitland Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown and from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the church.
