BEAVER SPRINGS - Michael A. "Mick" Hetrick, 65, of Beaver Springs RR1, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. He had been in ill health for the past two years. Born Aug. 24, 1935, in Danville, he was a son of the late Theodore R. and Pauline (Dreese) Hetrick. His wife, Irene (Thomas) Hetrick, whom he married June 5, 1955, survives. Also surviving are a brother, Lewis Hetrick, Beavertown and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Beaver Vocational High School, class of 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. Before retiring, he worked for Mattern's Hatchery and owned and operated Hetrick Poultry Farm Inc. He was a member of Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs. He was also a member of the Beaver Springs Hunting Camp, the West End Sportsmens Club and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and watching wildlife. A service of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Beaver Lutheran Church, Route 522, Beaver Springs, with the Rev. Charles Brophy officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Beaver Lutheran Church, All Saints Fund, Beaver Springs, PA 17812, or to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St. Williamsport, PA 17701, or please give blood to the American Red Cross, Snyder County Chapter.
BELLEVILLE - Erskine E. "Ernie" Hewitt, 88, of Milroy, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born Oct. 23, 1913, in Warrensburg, NY, he was the son of the late Robert and Agnes (Combs) Hewitt. His wife, Phyllis McLaughlin, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Nancy Hewitt, MA; a sister, Barbara Gollands, NY; and three special children he was close to, Blayke, Hunter and Ty Narehood. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. He was the Vice-President of Field Operations at Collinson Construction Company before retiring at age 73. He was a member of the Milroy United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #90, Lewistown. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Bert Bowen officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
REEDSVILLE - Betty J. Higgs, 76, of 40 Hillside Drive, Reedsville, died at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born March 31, 1925, in Brentwood, MD, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lillian (Barton) Harris. Her husband, Leonard F. Caudill Jr., preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Andrew (Karen) White, Reedsville and Lenny Caudill, North Carolina; brother and sister, Alan Harris and Audrey Canavan, both of Florida and Geraldine "Mickey" Gee, Maryland; and three grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers. She retired from Wilkerson Electronics. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor Harold Imes officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The decedent's favorite poem is added at the family's request: "Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep" "Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep; I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on the snow; I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain; When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush; Of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft star that shines at night; Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die."
LEWISTOWN - Bonnie L. Hockenberry, 60, of 310 Long Lane, Lewistown, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at her residence. Born June 4, 1941, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Jack L. and Marjorie G. (Glace) Shade. Her husband, Neal F. Hockenberry, whom she married June 26, 1976, survives. Also surviving are: children, Michael L. Hockenberry and Bethany A. Hockenberry, both at home; twin brother, Jack L. Shade, Lewistown; sister and brother, Marjorie A. Aguilar, Burnham and Col. Barry L. Shade, Sophia, Bulgaria. She was a 1959 graduate of Chief Logan High School and a 1962 graduate of the Polyclinic School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for 34 years at Lewistown Hospital, retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Vira United Methodist Church and was a faithful attender of Walnut Street United Methodist Church. Her service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Homecare/Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
EAST WATERFORD - Genevieve C. "Jean" Hockenberry, 80, of East Waterford RR1, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Home, Orbisonia. Born March 8, 1920, in Linden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Jon and Anna (Lewandowski) Sypniewski. Her husband, John Westley Hockenberry, died Oct. 22, 1983. Surviving are: children, Frank Hockenberry, Ford, NJ, Johnny Hockenberry III, Rahway, NJ, Brinton Hockenberry, Scranton, Corbin Hockenberry, Old Bridge, NJ, Carol Wegrzyn, East Waterford RR1 and April Dolch, New Gretna, NJ; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, John Sypniewski, Ted Sypniewski, Sophie Prudlo, Laura Gersick and Mary Kockie. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Linden, NJ. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park, Linden, NJ. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, with the Rev. Alice Meloy officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, 450 East College Ave., State College, PA 16801. Local arrangements are in charge of the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove and the New Jersey arrangements are being handled by the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, Linden, NJ.
MIFFLINTOWN - Jeffrey S. Hockenberry, 29, of Mifflintown RR5, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at his place of employment from an accident in Walker Township, Juniata County. Born April 15, 1972, in Lewistown, he was the son of Wilmont L. Hockenberry of Mifflintown RR5 and Mrs. Irvin (Sandra J.) (Messimer) Naylor, Mifflintown RR4. Also surviving are: a son, Chaz L. Hockenberry, at home; a stepdaughter, Rachel L. Wagner, Mount Pleasant Mills; a half brother, Jeremy A. Bottorff, McAlisterville; and maternal grandmother, Erma "Dolly" Messimer, Mifflintown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie L. Hockenberry in 1971. He attended Juniata High School, Mifflintown. He was a heavy equipment operator for Energex of America Inc., Mifflintown RR3 and was a former truck driver for Juniata Disposal Inc., Mifflintown RR5. His service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Kenneth R. Kitzmiller officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal. The family will be present 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday.
WELLSBORO - John W. Hockenberry, 74, of Wellsboro RR7, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Born June 9, 1927, in McAlisterville, he was the son of the late Mearl C. and Pauline (Ramp) Hockenberry. His wife, Arlene (Zimmerman) Hockenberry, whom he married in 1953, survives. Also surviving are: children, John Hockenberry, Prince George, VA, Michael Hockenberry and Wendy Scott, both of Wellsboro; a sister, Marian Schlegel, Mifflin; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Hubbert in 1993; a brother, Charles Edward Hockenberry in 1926; and a granddaughter, Charissa Marie Hockenberry in 1982. He retired in 1989 as a lineman for Commonwealth Telephone Company, Wellsboro, after 20 years. He was a member of the Wellsboro Veterans Club, was an avid WWF Wrestling fan, and enjoyed shooting pool. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, with the Pastor Tom McElrath officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. BURNHAM - Richard K. Hockenberry, 61, of 534 Wood St., Burnham, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at his residence. Born May 4, 1940, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Arthur and Frances (Hillard) Hockenberry. His wife, Linda (Stringer) Hockenberry, whom he married in 1986, survives. Also surviving are: children, Dawnna Parks, Whitehouse, TX, Kenneth R. Hockenberry, Arthur P. Hockenberry, and Ronald L. Hockenberry, all of Bellefonte, and Kevin E. Hockenberry, Unionville; stepchildren, Deborah S. Renninger, McVeytown, Robert A. Sunderland, Philipsburg, Donna J. Heidler, Lewistown, Robin L. Porch, Mifflin, Michael W. Deavor Sr., Mark E. Darerow and Jamie L. Heidler, all of Burnham; brother and sisters, Herbert "Don" Hockenberry, Margaret Russell and Beulah "Boots" Summers, all of Bellefonte; two grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He served in the United States Army. He was employed in industrial maintenance for Overhead Door Company and the Artery Organization in Marshall, VA. Funeral services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
