SEATTLE, Wash. - Margaret Brown Bratton Bradley, 84, of Seattle, Wash., died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Seattle, Wash. Born March 15, 1916, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Josephine Bratton. Her husband, Jerome G. Bradley, whom she married in 1941, preceded her in death. Surviving are: daughters, Mrs. George M. (Josephine) Taylor of Seattle, Wash. and Mrs. George W. (Anne) Counts of Bothell, Wash.; and two granddaughters. She was a 1933 graduate of Lewistown High School and graduated with a degree in home economics from Penn State University in 1937. She had worked in the athletic department at the University of Washington. She enjoyed reading, music, social causes, playing bridge, and Mariners' baseball. A memorial service was held at the University Presbyterian Church, 4540 15th Ave. N.E., Seattle, Wash. Memorial contributions may be made to any of the following charities: Hope Builders, Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, or to the Seattle Union Gospel Mission. The Bleitz Funeral Home, Seattle, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Starr A. Bratton, 51, of 2 Blue Juniata Drive, Lewistown, died at 1:58 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born March 30, 1949, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Doris (Henry) Russell of Reedsville and the late William Russell Sr. Her husband, Bryson C. Bratton Jr., whom she married in 1966, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Francis (Lisa) Briar, New York, Bryson C. Bratton III, Newport, and Tracy Bratton, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, William Russell Jr., Reedsville, Mrs. Jesse (Sharon) Barger and Scott Russell, both of Burnham, Mrs. James (Kathy) Shawver, Maitland, and Steve Russell, Port Royal; and nine grandchildren. She was employed at Arrow Shirt Factory, Scotty Fashions and Angelo's Hollow Inn. She attended Grace Covenant Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Michael Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
MILLERSTOWN - Brenda K. Brookhart, 50, of Millerstown RR3, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg of natural causes. Born Nov. 4, 1949, in Mifflintown, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Sara (Nealman) Zimmerman. Her husband, Darvin L. Brookhart, whom she married July 27, 1974, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Aaron, at home; eight brothers, David, Warren, Edward, Richard and Fred Zimmerman, all of Mifflintown, Kenneth and Larry Zimmerman of Port Royal and Ted Zimmerman of Mifflin; and two sisters, Darleen Long and Vickie Bryner, both of Port Royal. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Ferry Zimmerman. She was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School. She retired in 1986 due to disability after working 17 years for the Pennsylvania State Treasury Department, Harrisburg. She attended St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Mifflintown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. James Bramer officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Millerstown RR. There will be no viewing but friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Sylvester C. Brought, 95, of 10361 Route 522 South, Lewistown, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, at his home. Born Jan. 4, 1905 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Edgar A. and Margaret (Coldwell) Brought. His wife, Emma C. Brought, preceded him in death on March 23, 1982. Surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Wheeler, 200 Peace Drive, Lewistown and Mrs. Ronald (Mary) Rowe, 9343 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sons, Robert in 1981, and Edgar in 1999, two brothers, and one sister. He was a retired tree trimmer, surveyor and farmer. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Juniata Terrace, Lewistown, and the Beacon Class of the Sunday school. A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. Friends may call 9:30 a.m. Monday, until the time of service at the funeral home. The family will provide flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Juniata Terrace, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
ALEXANDRIA - Glenn H. Brower, 84, of Alexandria, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at his residence. Born Sept. 10, 1916, in Milroy, he was a son of the late John Lester and Jennie P. (Miller) Brower. His wife, Violet E. (Gramley) Brower, whom he married Nov. 16, 1940, survives. Also surviving are: children, Bruce H. Brower, Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Ron (Jane) Lysinger, Portage, Mrs. Wayne (Joy) Hall, Alexandria, and Burl E. Brower, Altanta, Ga.; brothers and sister, James Brower, Palaka, Fla., Alma Close, Lewistown, and Richard Brower, San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy Sea Bees in the 95th Battalion. During his life, he owned Glenn H. Brower Coal in Alfarata; Glenn H. Brower Trucking Inc. in Lewistown; Beaver Creek Farms in Beaver Springs; and ABC Mack Sales Inc. in Alexandria, Altoona and Milesburg. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown; a charter member of Navy Sea Bee Reunion, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and a member of the Garden Club of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He was also president of Brown Swiss Association of the Pennsylvania chapter and a member of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, the American Trucking Association, and the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will be held in Union Cemetery, McClure. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Marlin G. Brower, 73, of 1755 Lockport Road, Lewistown, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 4, 1926, in Lockport, he was the son of the late Lowery L. and Viola B. (Forsythe) Brower. His wife, Dolores M. (Ripka) Brower, whom he married Dec. 8, 1950, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Marlin Gwin Brower Jr., McVeytown and Rev. Mark S. Brower, Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Arlene) Kauffman, Lewistown; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emma Rebecca Brower and one sister. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. Early in life, he was owner/operator of Marger Inc. Vending Business and was last employed as a delivery person for James H. Havice Inc., Lewistown. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Lockport, where he held various church offices including trustee and was chaplain of the Lewistown Masonic Lodge 203. He was also a member of the Altoona Consistory; the Mifflin County Shrine Club; the Lewistown Commandary; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; member and past president of the Strodes Mills Lions Club; life member of West Granville Fire Co.; the McVeytown Fire Co., and the Waynesburg Guard, McVeytown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Marian Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, where Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Emily E. Brown, 84, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of Brown's Addition, Milroy, died at 12:01 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born April 29, 1916, in Milroy, she was a daughter of the late Robert S. and Luella M. (Close) Brown. She is survived by a sister, Lois McBride, Brown's Addition, Milroy; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. She was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue for 40 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of White Memorial United Church of Christ, Milroy and the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class. She was also a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 287, Milroy. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. James Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to White Memorial United Church of Christ, 68 S. Main St., Milroy, PA 17063.
CAMP HILL - Jefferson William Paget "J.P." "Brownie" Brown, 88, of Manor Care Health and Rehabilitation Services, Camp Hill, formerly of Harrisburg, Milroy and Wrightsville, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Manor Care. Born April 8, 1912, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Jefferson W. and Stella I. (Krise) Brown. He was preceded in death by wives, Dorothy (Dewey) Brown and Helen Jane (Searer) Brown. Surviving are: children, Don P. Brown, Camp Hill, Bonnie Klinger, Mechanicsburg and Nancy J. Swanger, Sunbury; a stepdaughter, Linda Guyer, DuBois; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He was the owner and operator of the former J.P. Brown and Co. Food Brokers, Harrisburg. He was a member of the Riverside Lodge F&AM 503, Wrightsville and the Wrightsville Boat Club. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Jeffrey S. Swanger officiating. Private interment will be held in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
