QUAKERTOWN - Rozella H. Lash, 90, a resident of Life Quest Nursing Center, Quakertown, formerly of 408 Old Park Road, Lewistown, died at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at the nursing center. Born Jan. 27, 1910, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Calvin R. and Flora S. (Gelwicks) Miley. Her husband, Clair P. Lash Sr., died Feb. 1, 1995. Surviving are: children, Waide E. Johnson, Port Charlotte, Fla., Otto D. Johnson, 279 Caldwell Hill, Lewistown, Ruth E. Nearhoof, Wilmington, Del. and Joan E. Steiert, Silverdale; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. She was a folder for Arrow Shirt factory for 17 years. She attended the Walnut Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the AARP and the AAA Motor Club. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.
MCVEYTOWN - Grace M. Latherow, 71, of Ryde, McVeytown RD, died at 11:12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at her home. Born July 13, 1930, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Viola M. (Diven) Harshbarger. Her husband, Merrill F. Latherow, whom she married July 23, 1949, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Larry F. Latherow, Ryde; a half-brother, Paul J. Gruber, Strodes Mills; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Walter on Oct. 8, 2001, and a brother, Lesley Harshbarger. She retired from Fisher Electronics, RD1 Reedsville. She was a member of the Ryde United Methodist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class and the Women's Society of the Church. She enjoyed hunting. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ryde United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert A. Brown Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Ryde Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. this evening at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. LEWISTOWN - James. G. Laughlin, 68, of 10375 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001 at his residence. Born Dec. 23, 1932 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Glenn C. and L. Elizabeth (Brought) Laughlin. His wife, Mary M. (McNabb) Laughlin, whom he married Sept. 15, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: children, Joseph G. Laughlin, 10588 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, Steven J. Laughlin, RD2 Box 568A Martinsburg and Mrs. Nils (Mary E.) Hagen-Frederiksen, 803 Apple Drive, Mechanicsburg; brothers, Lee A. Laughlin, 3728 W. Main St., Belleville and Bruce E. Laughlin, 800 Big Ridge Road, Lewistown; and nine grandchildren. He was a Corporal in the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed dairy farmer. He was a graduate of the Lewistown High School Class of 1951. He was a member of the Ellen Chapel Church. He was a member of the Fort Granville Grange and a patron of the Stone Arch Players and community concerts. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and musical theatre. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. J. Faust Hissong and Margaret Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Mary Alma (Rambler) Laughlin, 87, of 12425 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, passed away at her home on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2001, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 28, 1913, in Swissvale, Allegheny County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Martin and Viola Claire (Weston) Rambler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bradford Laughlin. She is survived by sons, Carl B. Laughlin Jr., John C. Laughlin and Wilfred R. Laughlin, all of Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Hazel) Espigh of McVeytown; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Rambler and two sisters, Violet Rambler Dunmire and Helen Rambler Tilley. She and her husband operated the Laughlin Guernsey; Farm in Ferguson Valley from 1952 to 1972. She was a member of Spring Run Church of the Brethren. After her marriage, she attended Ellen Chapel Union Sunday School for a number of years. She was also a member of Fort Granville Grange, where she served as lecturer for a number of years. Her funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family, with Karen McCachren officiating. There will be no viewing. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown. Interment will also be private at Mt. Rock Cemetery. Family will provide all flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 2001 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA 17102 or to Mifflin/Juniata County Area Agency on Aging, 1 Buena Vista Circle, Lewistown, PA 17044.
THOMPSONTOWN - Angel Rose Lauver, infant daughter of Bryan W. Lauver and Marilyn L. Fry of Thompsontown RR1, was stillborn Wednesday morning June 13, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Also surviving are: a brother and a sister, Grant L. Fry and Olivia L. Fry, both at home; paternal grandmother, Martha L. Lauver, Port Royal RR2; and maternal grandmother, Lucille Fry, Millersburg. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, with the Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery. The Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, is in charge of arrangements.
ELLIOTTSBURG - Ira F. Lauver, 78, of Elliottsburg RR1, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home. Born March 28, 1922, in East Salem, Juniata County, he was a son of the late William B. and Bessie (Groce) Lauver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie M. (Hockenberry) Lauver. Surviving are: children, Glenn Hockenberry and William L. Lauver, both of Ickesburg, Ira E. Lauver, Elliottsburg and Connie M. Frontz, Loysville RR1; two brothers, Robert E. Lauver and Joseph R. Lauver, both of New Bloomfield; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, Helen Hurley, Dorothy Foster, Evelyn Holly and Charles Lauver. He was retired from Duffy Motts, Aspers; was a Saville Township employee; and was a former logger. He was a member of the Ickesburg Ambulance Club and Ickesburg Fire Company. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Ronald S. Weigel officiating. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elliottsburg. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
MIFFLINTOWN - John C. Lauver, 61, of 99 Ridge Road, Mifflintown, died at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown RR1. Born July 20, 1940, in Denholm, he was the son of the late John P. Lauver and Loma (Willoughby) Lauver Maize. Surviving are: a brother, Ronald W. Lauver of Kistler, Mount Union; one niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by a niece. He worked at Empire Kosher, Mifflintown. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Mifflintown RR2, with the Rev. Gary Auker officiating. Interment will follow. There will be no viewing. The Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.
SELINSGROVE - LouCeille Lauver, 94, formerly of RR3, Selinsgrove, died Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2001, at Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove. Born Oct. 23, 1907, in Abilene, TX, and raised in Waco, TX, she was the daughter of the late William G. and Julia A. (Hulsey) Howard. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph F. Russell, and her second husband, Robert D. Lauver, on Feb. 17, 1987. Surviving are: children, Barbara A. Russell, Wilton, CA, Henry F. Lauver and his wife, Melba, of Garner, NC, and Robert H. Lauver and his wife, Susan, of Selinsgrove; a brother, Cecil J. Howard of Waco, TX; two grandchildren, Aaron S. Lauver and his wife, Tonya, of Lewisburg and Lindsey E. Lauver of East Stroudsburg; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. She was baptized at Lake View Baptist Church, Waco, TX. Since moving to the area she has attended the Kreamer Bible Baptist Church, Atkinson Mills Methodist Church and the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning food and caring for her birds. She has lived in Selinsgrove, Thompsontown, Burnham and McVeytown. She was a good woman who left many lives better for having touched hers, and she will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury. Interment will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Monday. Arrangements were handled by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home.
