TUCSON, AZ - Mildred Helen (Stine) Lauver, of Tucson, AZ, died on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. She had been in Tucson for the past 57 years after leaving Pennsylvania. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson, AZ. Funeral arrangements are pending.
LEWISTOWN - Barbara M. Leach, 67, of 468 Hawstone Road, Lewistown, died at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1933, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Orin and Ida May (Yetter) Jones. Her husband, Samuel B. Leach Jr., survives. Also surviving are: children, Carl D. Leach, Mifflin, Joseph L. Leach, Millville, Marlin E. Leach, Carlisle, Danny K. Leach, Tracey A. Leach, Michael C. Leach, C. Scott Leach, all of Mifflintown, Sharon G. Lane, Lewistown RR6 and Kathy A. Hays, Honey Grove; brother and sister, Melvin "Gene" Jones, Texas and Helen Spickler, McVeytown; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ken Jones, Raymond Jones, Betty Hale, Julia Clemens, Marietta Wagner, and one grandson, Brendon Leach. She retired in 1994 with 27 years of service as the supervisor of the Turkey Evis Line of Empire Kosher Poultry Inc., Mifflintown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Brenda Gill officiating. Interment will be in the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Academia. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. MIFFLIN - Helen S. Leach, 91, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin HC 67, formerly of Port Royal and Thompsontown, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1909, in Thompsontown, she was the daughter of the late Harry O. and Margaret (Leidy) Sieber. Her first husband, Arthur V. Bookwalter, died Sept. 29, 1959 and her second husband, Charles R. Leach died Dec. 17, 1987. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean Dolan of Port Royal RR2 and Marian B. Book of Thompsontown; stepchildren, William Leach and Darwin Leach, both of Thompsontown, and Joanne Shehan of McAlisterville; brother and sister, Ralph Sieber of McAlisterville RR and Mabel Wert of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown RR1; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers, Ruth Jones, Harry Sieber, Merrill Sieber, and Frank Sieber. She was a 1927 graduate of Thompsontown High School. She retired from Rae-Sel Corporation, Port Royal, where she worked as a seamstress. She was the oldest living member of Mexico United Presbyterian Church. She had voted in every election for more than 50 years and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Kathryn A. Leach, 84, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Valley Street, Lewistown, died at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the nursing home. She was born Aug. 21, 1916, in Philipsburg. Her husband, Woodrow 'Woody" Leach, died March 22, 1991. She is survived by a son, James Leach, U.S. Hwy 522 South, Lewistown; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a son, John Donahue, and 12 brothers and sisters. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lewistown. She was also a member of the Fame Fire Company, the American Legion Post 90, Lewistown, and the B.P.W. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing.
LEWISTOWN - Samuel Banks Leach, Jr., 70, of Hawstone Road, Lewistown, died Thursday, Dec. 20 at Lewistown Hospital emergency room. Born Feb. 17, 1931 in Milford Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Geraldine (Peck) Leach. His wife Barbara (Jones) Leach preceded him in death on March 28, 2001. Surviving are: children, Carl D. Leach, Mifflin, Sharon G. Lane and Joseph L. Leach, both of Lewistown, Danny K. Leach, Tracey A. Leach, Michael C. Leach and Clifford Scott Leach, all of Mifflintown, Marlin E. Leach, Carlisle, Kathy A. Murphy, Honey Grove; brothers and sisters Dorothy Bender, Lewistown, Mary Eyer, Linda Kunkel and Leroy Leach, all of Mexico, Nancy Narrone, Ohio, Richard Leach, Mifflin, Stephen Leach, Thompsontown and Donald Leach, Arch Rock; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Blystone and one grandson, Brendon Lee Leach. He was a truck driver, retiring from R.C. Savercool, Millerstown and was inducted into the Trucker's Hall of Fame in Ohio in 1985. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a surgical technician during the Korean Conflict. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Brenda Hill officiating. Interment will be in the Academy Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. The viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Bernice L. Leacy, 68, of 1317 Route 522 North, Lewistown, died at 7:01 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 12, 1932, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Beulah E. (Shawver) Stoner. Surviving are: children, George R. Leacy Jr., Lewistown and Mrs. Craig (Brenda) Marshall, Elizabethtown; a brother, Nelvin E. Stoner, McClure RR; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. She retired due to disability from Hanover-Guest Foods, Centre Hall, as an inspector. She was a member of the Church of God, Lewistown. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. George H. Mark officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. MIFFLIN - Michael J. Leahy, 41, of 104 Juniata St., Mifflin, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born March 16, 1960, in Norristown, he was the son of George H. Leahy of Thompsontown RR1 and Lois (Bell) Hill of Walnut Bottom Road Manor Care, Carlisle. His wife, Teresa P. (Towsey) Leahy, whom he married Nov. 2, 1990, survives. Also surviving are: stepmother, Mrs. George (Laurel) Leahy, Thompsontown RR1; three sons, Thomas A. Dressler, Michael L. Leahy and Austin J. Bishop; two stepsons, H. Emmet Dressler and Jared G. Dressler; brother and sisters, David W. Leahy, Mifflin, Debra A. Messimer, Elliotsburg, Helen M. Dixon, Loysville, and Jennifer L. Lantz, Newport; three half-sisters, Sherry Kint, Crystal Leahy and Becky Leahy, all of Port Royal; two stepsisters, Ellie Smith, Flowertown and Jennifer Gehers, McAlisterville; and one foster brother, John Neidig Sr., Mifflintown. He was preceded in death by one sister, Roxanne R. Leahy and two brothers, Harry H. Leahy and George L. Leahy. He was an assistant paper carrier for The Sentinel, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Warren Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. EAST EARL - Dorothy Leaman, 71, of 1252 Edgewood Drive, East Earl, died unexpectedly Sunday morning of natural causes at her cabin in Milroy. Born in Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Eva (Stauffer) Wanner. Her husband, Luke M. Leaman, with whom she celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on April 13, survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Donna J., wife of Glen Kanagy, Belleville, Carol A., wife of Tim Weaver, New Holland, and Sandy L., wife of Clair Martin, Narvon; a son, Dale L., husband of Lonita Leaman, New Holland; five sisters, Kathryn, wife of John Kochel, East Earl, Helen, wife of Noah Snader, East Earl, Jane, wife of Raymond Weaver, Mohnton, Edith, wife of Eugene Horning, Narvon, and Margaret, wife of Marvin Weaver, Blue Ball; two brothers, Horace, husband of Dorothy (Leaman) Wanner, Narvon, and Charles, husband of Sylvia (Hibshman) Wanner, Akron; and 10 grandchildren. She had been employed for the past 32 years as a housekeeper for the Bird-in-Hand Inn. She was a member of the Welsh Mountain Mennonite Church, New Holland and enjoyed sending greeting cards to family and friends. Her funeral service was held Wednesday morning at the Weaverland Mennonite Church, East Earl.
