LONDON, ONTARIO - Dr. Herbert A. "Andy" Leeper Jr., 58, of 51 Hammond Crescent, London, Ontario, Canada, N5X1A5, died Thursday, May 24, 2001 in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1942, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Herbert A. Leeper Sr. and Thekla (Metzger) Leeper of 930 Ridens Road, Lewistown. His wife Genese A. (Warr) Leeper, whom he married Aug. 12, 1974, survives. Also surviving are sons, William "Rob" Leeper and Terrence John "TJ" Leeper, both at home. He was a graduate of the Chief Logan High School Class of 1960. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Bloomsburg State and his Masters and Ph.D. at Purdue University. He was a professor at the University of Western Ontario. During his tenure he received may academic awards and was recognized as an authority in the field of voice and cranio-facial anomalies. He was an active member of his community, taking part as a volunteer coach in youth sports. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Gerald Krum officiating. Interment will be in Vira Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Bldg.-D, Altoona, PA 16601.
Robert B. Leeper, 72, of 74 Airport Hill Road, Lewistown, died at 7:59 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Zendt Nursing Home in Richfield. Born Aug. 26, 1929, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Carl and Sara (Shotzberger) Leeper. His wife, Patricia (Smiley) Leeper, whom he married in 1952, survives. Also surviving are: children, Kenneth Leeper, Linda Pinto and Tracy Leeper, all of Lewistown, and Jeffrey Leeper of New York; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Fleming. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenter's Union #333 in State College. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with Pastor Roger Reece officiating. The Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Thekla M. Leeper, 89, of 930 Riden's Road, Lewistown, died at 8:49 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 23, 1912, in East Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Fannie (Bentzel) Metzger. Her husband, Herbert A. Leeper, died Dec. 7, 1978. Surviving are: sisters, Anna Mary Keim, South Pasadena, Fla. and Frances M. Miller, 21 Franklin Ave., Lewistown; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Herbert A. "Andy" Leeper on May 24, 2001; one brother and one sister. She was executive secretary for WMRF Radio for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Burnham; the Lutheran Church Women (WELCA); the Mifflin County Historical Society; the Twentieth Century Club; the Republican Women of Action; the ACTWU Retirees; and was an active church and community volunteer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in the Vira Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Altoona, PA 16601.
ELBERTON,GA - Frederick LeRoy LeFevre, 70, of Elberton, GA, and formerly of Lewistown, died Dec. 20, 2001, at the University Hospital, Augusta, GA. He was a son of the late William C. LeFevre and Lorma R. LeFevre. His wife, Joyce LeFevre, whom he married Nov. 30, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: children, Lorma Carson, Pamela Harlon and Mark LeFevre, all of Elberton, GA, William LeFevre, Clayton, GA, Michael LeFevre and Joe LeFevre, both of Yeagertown, James LeFevre, Mount Pleasant, N.C., Fred LeFevre, McClure, and Tonya York of Anderson, S.C.; three brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Jodi L. LeFevre; four brothers and two sisters. He was retired from Gate Petroleum Company and was a resident and employed by Camp Harmony Association, Inc. for the past 10 years. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 29 at Burnham Church of the Nazarene, Freedom Avenue, Burnham.
UPPER ALLEN TOWNSHIP - Frank E. Leinaweaver, 73, of Upper Allen Township, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Harrisburg Hospital. Born Feb. 23, 1928, he was a son of the late Frank T. and Jessie Elizabeth (Holtzapple) Leinaweaver. His wife, Donna Lee (Bollinger) Leinaweaver, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Mark Lynn Leinaweaver of York, Matthew Allen Leinaweaver of Huntington Beach, Calif., Chad Edward Leinaweaver of Stoughton, Mass.; a sister, Miriam LaRue of Mechanicsburg; and three grandchildren. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Bell Telephone Company after 28 years of service and was currently an employee of E.U.R. Systems, Mechanicsburg. He was a member of Shepherdstown United Methodist Church; the Telephone Pioneers; the Eureka Lodge F&AM 302; the Harrisburg Consistory; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 43; and was active in various masonic orders for over 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Shepherdstown United Methodist Church, 1934 S. York St., with the Rev. Thomas Willard officiating. Interment will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Shepherdstown United Methodist Church, 1934 S. York Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to the American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011. BURNHAM - Lori A. Leister, 42, of 608 E. Freedom Ave., Burnham, died of natural causes at 3 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2001, at her residence. Born June 14, 1959, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Richard L. Sr. and Esther M. (McKinley) Hartley of 410 Locust St., Burnham. Her husband, Richard E. Leister, whom she married Jan. 22, 1980, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Gregory A. Leister and Timothy J. Leister, both at home; brothers, Richard L. Hartley Jr., Jackson, WY and Scott A. Hartley, Granville. She was a 1977 graduate of Chief Logan High School. She was a van driver for R&S Bus Company and was a Burnham Borough tax collector for eight years. She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Burnham, where she served as the chairman of the Worship Committee, was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and served on many other church committees. She was secretary of the South Burnham Community Group and committee person and treasurer of the Burnham Boy Scout Troop 6. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, 203 N. Walnut St., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham and 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: Walnut Street United Methodist Church, 203 N. Walnut St., Burnham, PA 17009.
PORT ROYAL - Brent A. Leiter, 21, of Port Royal RR2, died at 12:39 a.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born Oct. 22, 1979, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of Charles D. and Pamela E. (Becker) Leiter of Port Royal RR2. He is also survived by: a brother and sister, Charles T. Leiter, Jacksonville, Fla. and Alicia N. Leiter, Port Royal RR2; maternal grandmother, Alma O. (Sheerer) Becker, Mexico; and paternal grandmother, Betty L. (Fultz) Leiter, Mifflintown RR1. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Harry J. Becker and paternal grandfather, Charles A. Leiter. He was a 1998 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown, where he played football and was a member of the track team. He was employed as a lead forklift operator for Exel Logistics, Mechanicsburg. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Centre Lutheran Church, Mifflintown RR2, with the Rev. Louise Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal RR2. A closed casket visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown. MIFFLINTOWN - Charles A. Leiter, 74, of Mifflintown RR1, died at 11:40 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born September 17, 1926, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Rebecca (Minick) Leiter. His wife Betty L. (Fultz) Leiter whom he married October 6, 1950, survives. Also surviving are: children: Mrs. Larry (Sheila) Craig, 88 Grand St. Belleville, Charles D. Leiter, Port Royal RR #2; a brother James Leiter, Mifflintown and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Priscilla Swineford. He was a 1945 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown. He attended the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mifflintown. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Mifflintown Hose Co. No.1 and a member of the Juniata County Sportsman Club where he helped to clear land for the present building. He retired in 1974 from the Spinning Room of the American Viscose Corp., Lewistown with 28 years of service. He also served for 25 years as a deputy game warden for the Pennsylvania Game Commission and during his retirement, he worked as a plumber for James Leiter Plumbing of Mifflintown. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with James Flickinger officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown RR4. Friends may call 7-9 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
