SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - Victoria M. Marshall, 63, of San Clemente, Calif., died Monday, May 7, 2001, in San Clemente, Calif. Born Nov. 24, 1937, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Raymond Manny of Williamsport and the late Elizabeth (Smith) Manny. Her husband, Palmer E. Marshall, formerly of McClure, died April 4, 1999. Also surviving are: a daughter, Andrea W. Marshall of San Clemente, Calif. and a son, Stephen P. Marshall of Ocean Side, Calif.; a brother, David Manny, Muncy; stepmother, Kay Manny, Williamsport; and step-sister Sandra Roy,Williamsport. Interment will be at McClure Union Cemetery, McClure, at the convenience of the family.
MCCLURE - Carrol L. Martie, 59, of 4183 Back Maitland Road, McClure, died at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Sept. 9, 1941, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Bradford C. and Estalene L. (Hagans) Roe. She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl L. Martie, Back Maitland Road, McClure and a brother, Larry Roe, Loop Road, Lewistown. She was a production employee at Fisher Electronics, Milroy. She was an avid gardener, crafts person, reader and enjoyed her cats. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - M. Lester Martin, 91, of Mount Pleasant Mills RR1, Perry Township, Snyder County, died at 4:19 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born June 4, 1909, in Snyder County, he was the son of the late Rev. Oscar and Mary Elizabeth (Dreese) Martin. His wife, Pauline Winifred Kratzer, whom he married April 16, 1932, died Jan. 17, 1997. He is survived by children, Robert E. Martin Sr. and Mrs. D. Keith (Sandra L.) Ditty, both of Mount Pleasant Mills; a sister, Mildred I. Hommel, Beavertown; 16 grandchildren, one granddaughter whom he raised, Mrs. C. Michael (Frosteen G.) Hummel, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1; 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Martin in 1977; a great-great-granddaughter, Victoria Hauger, in infancy; and a sister, Catherine Bordner. He was educated in the Snyder County schools. He was a farmer his entire life and was also employed for over eight years by the former Manbeck Bread Company, Harrisburg. He drove a bread route in the Mount Pleasant Mills, Kratzerville and Port Trevorton areas, retiring in 1974. He was a member and former Superintendent of the Sunday School of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, where he taught Sunday School for over 32 years. He was a member of the Civic Club of Mount Pleasant Mills and was a former member of the Fremont Volunteer Fire Company, Mount Pleasant Mills. He enjoyed reading and watching westerns on television. He also enjoyed baseball, card games, puzzles and various other games. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Pastor James E. Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. BURNHAM -Mary R. Matter, 83, of 217 Seventh Ave., Burnham, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Born May 16, 1918, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Eva (Brick) Pasternack. Her husband, William H. Matter, preceded her in death on April 9, 1987. Surviving are: children, William P. Matter, Burnham, Gary L. Matter, Omaha, NE, Mrs. Jesse (Patricia) Alexander, Lewistown, and Mrs. Neal (Virginia) Aumiller, Milroy; brothers and sisters, Kay Bailey, York, Ann Snyder, Elizabethtown and Thomas D. Pasternack, Burr Oak, MI; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. A homemaker, she was employed in her early life at American Viscose Corp. and attended the Walnut Street United Methodist Church. Her funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. DELAND, FL - Dr. James Warren Mauery, 76, of 4120 Winterwood Run, DeLand, FL, died at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, of apparent natural causes. Born June 15, 1925, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James Albert and Rosa (Cooper) Mauery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce E. Mauery, and sister, Peggy M. Weaver. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Teena) Masters and one grandson, James, of Greensburg, PA. Dr. Mauery was a 1943 graduate of Derry Township High School, attended Penn State University and Juniata College, and graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, IL. He was a chiropractic physician in Lewistown for 45 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force Medical Corps and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewistown. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and an avid gun collector. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #663, a member of Moose Lodge #143, a past member of the Lewistown Lions Club and a past president of the City, Hook & Ladder Fire Company. He was also a member of Lewistown Masonic Lodge #203, the Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar #26, Juniata Valley Tall Cedars of Lebanon #88, Commandry/Council of the York Rite, and the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona. In Florida, he was a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge (DeLand) and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite (Orlando). Additionally, he was a member of the Unified Sportsmen of Florida and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. There will be no public viewing. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 20 Oak Street, Lewistown. LEWISTOWN - John Irvin Maurer, 83, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of 205 Locke Ave. Ext., Yeagertown, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 24, 1918, in Millerstown, he was the son of the late John and Elsie (Paden) Maurer. His wife, Pauline A. (Kline) Maurer, died Dec. 18, 1991. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Charles (Dawn) Phillips, 91 Brannon Lane, Lewistown and Mrs. Charles (Ginger) Ettinger, Marshall, TX; sisters and brother, Mary Harp, New Bloomfield, Kenneth Maurer, Mifflintown and Mrs. Richard (Fern) Bowman, Annville; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He was a US veteran of World War II, having served in Germany. He was employed by J. Irvin Maurer Wholesale Food Distributors for 22 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church, where he was a past Sunday School superintendent and teacher; the Blue Juniata Chorus Barber Shoppers; and the Millerstown VFW. His service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown, with a military service conducted by the VFW. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Remmick E. Maxwell Sr., 78, of 1010 Western Reserve Road, Youngstown, Ohio, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio. Born Sept. 2, 1922, in Mattawana, he was the son of the late Cloyd and Helen (Henry) Maxwell. His wife, Lena Maxwell, preceded him in death in 1996. He is survived by sons, Remmick E. Maxwell Jr., Howard, SD, Thomas M. Maxwell, Tampa, Fla. and Stanley A. Maxwell, Reedsville; sisters, Lucille Yeo, Harrisburg, Loretta Wilson, Lewistown, and Sara Finkenbiner, Reedsville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Maxwell and a brother, Russell Maxwell. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a foundryman-manager. He was a member of Old North Church, Canfield, Ohio. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with the Rev. John Walters officiating. ELBURN, Ill. - Edith A. Mazuc, 73, of Elburn, Ill., formerly of Lewistown, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at her home. Born Aug. 27, 1927, in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late Fred Bruce and Bernice (Moyer) Righter. Her husband, Pascal Mazuc of Elburn, Ill., whom she married May 5, 1953 in Barbers Point, Hawaii, survives. Also surviving are: children, Patricia Train, Batavia, Ill., John Mazuc, California, Md., Mrs. Scott (Sharon) Zeal, Somonauk, Ill., Kevin Mazuc, Elburn, Ill. and Alan Mazuc, Hughesville, Md.; three sisters, Marion, Dorothy, and Virginia; three brothers, Glen, Richard, and Charles; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was a 1945 graduate of Derry Township High School. She enlisted in the United States Navy on Oct. 3, 1950 and served for three years as a telegraph specialist in Hawaii. Earlier in life, she worked for the phone company and later as a clerk for the Kane County Circuit Court Office, Elburn, Ill. She also volunteered at the original Community Hospital in Geneva. Most recently, she served as an Adult Literacy volunteer for Waubonsee Community College. She was a member of St. Gall Church, Elburn, Ill. A Mass of celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Gall Church, Route 47 & Shannon Street, Elburn, Ill., with Father Bernard Schaefer, OSB officiating. Interment will be in West Batavia Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today at the Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, Ill., where a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. by Father Bernard Schaefer, OSB. Memorial contributions may be made in her name and mailed to PO Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.
