MILROY - Candice J. Mitchell, 48, of 62 Woodland Ave., Milroy, died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 8, 1953, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Ralph and Eva (Williams) Polliard. Her husband, Gary L. Mitchell, whom she married Sept. 14, 1974, survives. Also surviving are: children, Michelle J. Miller, Reedsville, and Stephanie L. Mitchell, Milroy; sisters and brother, Mrs. William (Leah) Shafranich, Milroy, Mrs. Jay (Letha) Breon, Milroy, and James R. Williams, Lewistown; and one grandchild. She was a 1971 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School and worked at Nittany Pharmaceuticals, Milroy. Her funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Frederick E. Mizerek, 70, of 327 Bratton Ave., Lewistown, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 2, 1930, in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Peter and Frances (Wissing) Mizereck. His wife, Bertha (Syrydynski) Mizerek, whom he married June 23, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Edward R. Mizerek, at home; brother and sister, Robert A. Mizerek and Norma E. Mizerek, both of 325 Bratton Ave., Lewistown. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemarie Mizerek. He served in the United States Army. He was employed as a driver for Engelhard Inc., Newark, NJ. He was a member of Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John Looney officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. MCCLURE - Evelyn H. Moist, 79, of 229 Summit Road, McClure, died at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown. Born January 14, 1922 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Millie (Fisher) Harshbarger. Her husband Edward O. Moist preceded her in death in 1989. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Nelson (Daphne) Mertz, New Windsor, MD, Jeffrey O. Moist, Merritt Island, FL, Thaddeus R. Moist, McClure, Mrs. Kevin (Andrea) McCardle, Old Park Road, Lewistown and Mrs. Timothy (Kathy) Walters, Shiremanstown; sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Kathleen) Harmon, West Middlesex and Mrs. Lyman (Dorothy) Guss, McClure; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric J. Moist in 1988, and by a brother, Edgar M. Harshbarger, in 1972. She worked as a secretary at the Art Craft Shirt Factory and Cluett Peabody. She was also employed as the tax assessor for Decatur township for 14 years and as a clerk for various area auctioneers. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, Lewistown. She was a member of the Derry Township Senior Center. She was sports fan who started the Belltown baseball league program and was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles M. Eldredge officiating. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday? at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown. LEWISTOWN - Paul J. Montgomery, 82, of 8A Pine Park Drive, Lewistown, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001, at his residence. Born Jan. 22, 1919, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Jay and Linnie (Spigelmyer) Montgomery. His wife, Phyllis (Ward) Montgomery, whom he married in 1943, survives. Also surviving are: children, Penelope Hartman, North Pine Street, Lewistown and Mrs. Vincent (Penza) Calarco, Nantucket, MA; a sister, Anna Stitt, Lewistown; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He retired in 1981 from Standard Steel with 44 years of service. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Lewistown and the East End Gang. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with minister, Karen McCachren officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Cardiovascular Center, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
MIFFLIN - Arthur J. Montrey, 56, of HC 67, Mifflin (McCoysville), died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born May 21, 1944, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Woodrow W. and Catherine (Mcknight) Montrey. He is survived by a brother, Donald P. Montrey, Chalfort; a sister, Catherine A. Fitzgerald, McCoysville; and several nieces and nephews. He was a United States Navy veteran. He was a highway superintendent for Upper Dauphin Township. He attended St. Jude's Catholic Church, Mifflintown and was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Mifflintown, with Father Larry Coakley officiating. Interment will be in the McCoysville Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Lung Association of PA, 4807 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
HIGHSPIRE - Bessie P. Moore, 84, of 16 Oakland Manor, Highspire, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at IHS at Woodlands, Hershey. Born March 26, 1916, in Granville Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary (Charles) Schmidt. Her husband, James T. Moore, died in 1953. Surviving are: children, Charles W. Moore, Savannah, Ga., Donna L. Hummel, Johnston, RI, Raymond K. Moore, Phoenix, Ariz., and Kay E. Moore, Highspire; brother and sister, John Schmidt, Lewistown RR4 and Alma Schilling, Shinglehouse; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a companion with whom she lived, Lee Casner in 1998; one brother and one sister. She was a homemaker. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Compassionate Care Hospice, 301 N. KREAMER - C. James "Jim" Morgan, 84, of Kreamer, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 12, 1917, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William Cloyd and Cora E. (Bardell) Morgan. His is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Marie (Arnold) Morgan, whom he married June 1, 1939. Also surviving are: five sons, Dennis L. Morgan, Washington, NJ, J. Keith Morgan, Roslindale, MA, C. William "Bill" Morgan, Shippensburg, David A. Morgan, Rustburg, VA and Joseph E. Morgan, Nitro, WV; three daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Ruth A.) Reader, York, Mrs. Ray (Susan E.) Clayberger, Kreamer and Mrs. J. Robert (Beth E.) Ranck, Paradise; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William L. Morgan and Robert R. Morgan, and one sister, Louella G. Morgan. He attended McClure schools and Lewistown High School. He retired in 1979 after 13 years with the Selinsgrove Center. Earlier in life he owned a farm in Mifflin County, where he farmed for 37 years. He was also employed at Mexico Forge of Milroy, Black's Hospital, Lewistown Hospital and the American Viscose, Lewistown. He also worked in the C.C.C. Camps during 1935. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, calligraphy, gardening, spending time with his family and reading his Bible. He was a member of the Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, and attended the Winfield Baptist Church. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the V. L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with the Rev. Charles Cole officiating. Interment will be in Samuel's Church Cemetery, Decatur Township, Mifflin County. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, 1170 Almonesson Road, Westville, NJ 08093.
ORBISONIA - Richard Harold Morgan, 44, of Orbisonia HCR60, died of natural causes at 8:55 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center. Born July 17, 1956, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Fred and Lois (Krause) Morgan of Orbisonia HCR60. Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Dale Morgan and Carrie Varner, both of Orbisonia HCR60, Fred Morgan Jr., Tyrone and Cindy Brightbill, Orbisonia; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Benjamin Morgan. He was a graduate of the Southern Huntingdon County High School Class of 1975, and a 1980 graduate of York College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. He was a Title 1 math teacher of fifth grade at Trough Creek Elementary School, and he had worked as a teacher st the Southern Huntingdon High School, Spring Farm Elementary School and Shade Gap Elementary School. He worked during the summer at the East Broad Top Railroad. Earlier in life, he worked as a counselor at the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind in Newton Hamilton, and he also worked at the Overbrook School for the Deaf and Blind in Philadelphia. He was a member of the Valley Point Church of the Brethren, Orbisonia HCR60, where he was a member of the church board and the choir. He enjoyed gardening, antique car restoration, painting, singing and German language studies. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Liane Wagner and the Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Interment will be in Shope Cemetery, Orbisonia HCR60. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
