BELLEVILLE - John J. "Jack" Morley, 62, of 4189 E. Main St., Belleville, died at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. He was the husband of E. Fay Thomas-Morley, who survives at home. They were married Aug. 13, 1988. Born July 29, 1939, in Weymouth, Mass., he was the son of the late John J. and Doris (Basius) Morley. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a step-son, William K. Thomas, husband of Tina Thomas; a step-daughter, Julie Yutesler, wife of Lt. Michael Yutesler; two grandsons, Todd W. Thomas of Beale Air Force Base, Ca. and David J. Heisler of Belleville; two sisters, Barbara Perreault, wife of Harry Perreault of Canton, Mass. and Helen Estes, wife of William Estes of Bridgewater, Mass.; two brothers, Kevin Morley of Wolbrook, Mass. and William Morley of Braintree, Mass; and ten nieces and nephews. He attended the District of Columbia Police Academy, Archbishop Williams High School, and retired on disability from the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, dealing with helicopters. He lived in Annapolis, Md. for 30 years and was a member of the Annapolis Elks #622, the Stroup-Alexander Post #5935 of Belleville, the American Legion Post #245 of State College, the University Club of Lewistown and the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church of Belleville. He was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed parking cars on Wednesdays at the V.F.W. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Belleville with the Rev. Samuel G. Strohm officiating. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Belleville. A viewing will be held 6:30-9 p.m. Sunday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorials can be made to the West Kishacoquillas Church Handicap Access Fund, P.O. Box 98, Belleville, PA, 17004 or to the Stroup-Alexander V.F.W. Post #5935, Belleville, PA, 17004.
MILL CREEK - Ruth N. Motyl, 53, of Mill Creek, died at 9:07 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at her residence. Born Oct. 16, 1947, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Ray and Betsy (Thompson) Moore. Her husband, Frank T. Motyl, whom she married Jan. 19, 1972, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Jan-Ray Thomas Motyl, York; three brothers and five sisters, William R. Moore, Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, Beatrice J. Price, Mrs. Harry (Mabel M.) Zimmerman, Downingtown, Glenn A. Moore, Knoxville, TN, Ralph B. Moore, Mill Creek, Mrs. Rolf (Rita) Thelander, Marysville, WA, Mrs. Elwood (Waneta) Strauser, McVeytown and Rhea F. Moore, Pittsburgh; and 27 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister, Lee V. Moore and Mrs. Elwood (Rosie L.) Staley. She had worked at Corkin's Diner, the Lewistown Cleaners, and Red's Diner, Lewistown. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. At the request of the family, there will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Motyl to the Emmanuel Bible Church, RR4, Huntingdon, PA 16652. The John B. Brown Funeral Home Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, is in charge of arrangements.
MILLMONT - Harold Eugene "Lovell" Mowery, 74, of Route 45 West, Millmont RR1, formerly of Lewisburg RR1, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001 in East Buffalo Township, Union County. Born June 19, 1926 in East Buffalo Township, Union County, he was a son of the late Harvey Clinton and Rebecca Matilda (Geiswite) Mowery. His wife Catherine Fay "Alverta" (Maneval) Mowery, whom he married May 8, 1950, preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1990. Surviving are: a companion, Kathryn A. Loss, Millmont RR1; children, Reuben L. Mowery, Liverpool, Leona R. Herman, Hartford, AL, Sidney J. Mowery, Lewisburg RR1, Crystal A. Sansbury, Roseland, FL, Stanley E. Mowery, Mifflinburg RR1 and Kathleen R. Schreffler, Warminster; brothers, Donald Franklin Mowery, Mifflinburg RR1, Marlin Marvin Mowery, Mifflinburg RR2 and W. Neil Mowery, Indiana; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Kermit John Mowery, Nina Viola Boop, Charles Henry Mowery, Marguerite C. Mowery, Nile Harvey Mowery, Kenneth Paul Mowery and Timothy Gordon Mowery. He attended the Mifflinburg area school. He worked in agriculture in East Buffalo Township, Union County, until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the New Columbia God's Missionary Church, New Columbia RR2, and in recent years attended the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Millmont RR1. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, with the Rev. John R. Manley, Pastor of the New Columbia God's Missionary Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Richfield Evangelical Methodist Church Cemetery in West Perry Township, Snyder County. Friends may call after 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday morning prior to the service at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Jess W. Mowry Sr., 92, of 116-A Spring St., Lewistown, died at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 16, 1908, in White, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary (Snyder) Mowry. His wife, Emily (Huffer) Mowry, died Nov. 3, 1996. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Ralph (Louise) Stiffler, Lawndale, Calif., Mrs. Ronald (Thelma "Betty") Beckwith, 159 Marlick Ave., Reedsville, Jess W. Mowry Jr., 508 S. Grand St., Lewistown, and James L. Mowry, Lebanon; brother and sister, Thomas Mowry, Ocala, Fla. and Margaret Chalfant, Irwin; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Glen, John, Ray, and Walter Mowry. He was terminal manager for Crown Motor Freight, retiring in 1979. He was Protestant by faith. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard W. Swartz officiating. Private interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 2 p.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home. Family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MIFFLINTOWN - Larry E. Moyer, 40, of Mifflintown RR2, Juniata County, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, of natural causes at the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born July 21, 1960, in Hershey, he was the son of Lucille (Fitting) Moyer of Grantville and the late Kenneth W. Moyer. His companion, Bettylou Rowles of Mifflintown, survives. Also surviving are: two daughters, Tabitha Moyer and Tamera Moyer, both of California; three sisters, Sandra Alleman of Elliottsburg, Shirley Sanders of Gettysburg and Linda Ogurcak of Grantville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Moyer and by a sister, Susan Nelson. He was a mechanic for H & S Towing, Harrisburg. He was a social member of Shellsville V. F. W. 9639 and was a member of the former Juniata River Angler's Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and NASCAR races. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 165 Firehouse Road, Grantville. Interment will be in Grantville Cemetery, E. Hanover Township, Dauphin County. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to a library of the donors choice. The Buse Funeral Home, Shellsville, is in charge of arrangements.
BROCKWAY - Ruth G. Moyer, 73, of Brockway RD3, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at the DuBois Regional Medical Center West. Born Nov. 15, 1927, in Cocolamus, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Knouse) Gingrich. Her husband, Rev. Richard Moyer, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Daniel L. Moyer, Falls Creek; two daughters, Darlis Moyer, Harrisonburg, VA and Lynnette Hughes, Arlington, VA; a brother, John Lloyd Gingrich; and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by an infant brother, Harold. She attended Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, VA and graduated from Clarion State College. She was a school teacher for 28 years before retiring. She was a member of the Crenshaw Community Church, where she provided leadership for youth groups and Sunday School. She enjoyed watching birds and traveling to historical sites with the Girls Club. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Carlson Funeral Home, 1033 4th Ave., Brockway. Her funeral service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Crenshaw Community Church. Interment will follow at Beechtree Cemetery. MIFFLINTOWN - William R. "Bill" Muldoon Jr., 79, of Mifflintown RR1 (Arch Rock), died at 11:58 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 23, 1921, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late William R. Sr. and Lena A. (Kahley) Muldoon. His wife, Kathryn E. (Koons) Muldoon, died Feb. 5, 1998. Surviving are: children, William R. Muldoon III, Mifflintown RR1, Rev. Wilbur S. Muldoon, Cheyenne, Wyom., and Mrs. Frank (Wendy Jane) Ellsworth, Belleville, Ill.; brother and sisters, Brady E. "Jake" Muldoon, Mifflintown RR1, Mrs. Clark (Betty) Reese, Lewistown RR2, Mrs. Frederick (Helen E.) Benner, Aaronsburg, Mrs. Patrick (Shirley M.) Groff, Mifflintown RR4, and Mrs. Neil (Pauline R.) Fleisher, Lewisburg; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Rebecca Ann Muldoon and Rose Marie Muldoon and two sisters, Thelma Muldoon and Anna G. Brackbill. He was a 1939 graduate of Juniata Joint High School. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired as a diesel mechanic from the Pennsylvania Railroad, Lewistown. He was a member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church, Mifflintown RR1. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Wilbur S. Muldoon officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where full military honors will be conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council. MIFFLINTOWN - Harold C. Mummah, 87, of Mifflintown, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 26, 1913, in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County, he was the son of the late Harvey S. and Euretta (Sponhauer) Mummah. His wife, Freida K. (Kauffman) Mummah, whom he married June 1, 1941, survives. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Earl D. (Hulda Kathryn) Zook, Stephens City, Va. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald E. Mummah, J. Delbert Mummah and Earl G. Mummah. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the finance office of Standard Steel, Burnham, with 45 years of service. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, where he served as an Elder, Trustee, and belonged to the Westminster Men's Group. He was also a member of the Supervisors Club of Standard Steel, Burnham, and the Juniata County Sportsmen's Club. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, corner of Third and Lemon Streets, Mifflintown, with the Rev. David A. Cook officiating. Interment will be in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown and from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the time of service at the church.
