LEWISTOWN - Freeda E. Orris, 84, of Open Hearth Manor, Lewistown, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 14, 1917, in Vira, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Lena V. (Searer) Smith. Her husband, Francis Orris, preceded her in death in 1979. Surviving are: a daughter, Nancy M. Landis, Pleasant Ridge Manor West, 8300 West Ridge Rd., Girard, PA 16417; and three sisters, Pearl Jennings, Towanda, Margaret Harmon, Reedsville, and Helen Ewing, Beaver Springs. She was preceded in death by: brothers, Russell Smith, Fern Smith, Nelson "Chub" Smith and Donald Smith; and sisters, Florence Teenie, Catherine Bell and Clara Marrone. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. David Schmuck officiating. Private interment will be at Vira Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until the service at 1:00 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The family will provide all flowers.
GRANVILLE - Foster M. Ott, 87, a resident of the Malta Home for the Aging, Granville, formerly of 4 Stoneroad Court, Lewistown, died at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the Malta Home. Born Nov. 27, 1913, in Windber, he was the son of the late Mahlon and Catharine (Berkibile) Ott. His wife, Romaine G. Ott, died Oct. 20, 1988. Surviving are: children, Ruth Anna Rudy, 104 N. Railroad St., Myerstown, Janet L. Ott-Snyder, 351 W. Main Ave., Myerstown, Paul A. Ott, 125 S. Race St., Richland, and Edie C. Scheuer, Broomall; and four granddaughters. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. He was a US Army and US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Pennsylvania State Trooper for 26 years and later worked at Fisher Electronics. He was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Lewistown Lodge 203 F&AM and other Masonic organizations. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Malta Home, PO Box E, Granville, PA 17029.
DILLSBURG - Jean M. Owens, 74, of Tally-Ho Farm, Dillsburg, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born Oct. 9, 1926, in Dallastown, she was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Grace Flory. Her husband, Samuel T. Owens, survives. She is survived by four nieces and a nephew. She was a 1944 graduate of Dallastown High School. She retired as a bookkeeper for Tam-Agri Inc., Dillsburg and was a co-owner of the former Owens Gulf Station, Camp Hill, from 1953-1975. She had also been employed by the former York Corporation, York. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Camp Hill and the Dallastown American Legion ladies auxiliary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Myers-Harner Funeral Home, Camp Hill. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Zembo Shrine, 2801 N. Third St., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
PORT ROYAL - Mary M. Paige, 91, of RR1, Port Royal, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin. Born Oct. 25, 1910, in Honey Grove, she was the daughter of the late James and Rebecca (Gray) Klinger. Her husband, Harry M. Paige, preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1988. Surviving are: a daughter and son, Mrs. Otho (Betty) Brackbill, RR1, Port Royal, and Jasper W. "Jap" Paige, Vineland, NJ; a sister, Mrs. George (Anna Ruth) Stewart, RR1, Port Royal; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Freda Klinger, two brothers, William Klinger and John Klinger, a sister, Mae Brubaker, and a grandson, Davy Otho Brackbill. She had worked for the former Rae-Sel Corporation, Port Royal. She was a member of the Matamoras United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Kenneth R. Kitzmiller officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, at the funeral home. There will be no evening viewing. Memorial donations may be made to: Matamoras United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Betty Brackbill, financial secretary, RR1 Box 355, Port Royal, PA 17082.
MCCLURE - Thomas A. Paige, 44, of McClure RR2 died at 5:11 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital, after being stricken at home. He had been awaiting a kidney transplant. Born Feb. 15, 1957, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ammon L. and Dessie S. (Maurer) Paige. His wife, Lou Ann (VanBuskirk) Paige, whom he married July 18, 1998, survives. He had been married to Melissa (Mattern) Schmucker. He is also survived by a son, Brandon T. Paige, at home; stepchildren, Caitlin M. Thompson and Nathan O. Thompson, both of Middleburg; two sisters, Florence V. Wray and Marjorie J. Snook, both of McClure; and a stepsister, Betty Brininger of Millmont. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Mae Paige in 1959. He graduated from West Snyder High School in 1977. He was currently employed by Super Service Garage, Beavertown as a bus driver for the past 18 years. He had also been employed by WoodMode, Kreamer, the former Beaver Shoe Company and the Midd-West School District. He was a member of St. Peter's Independent Bible Church, the FFA and the Bannerville Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with Pastor Darvin Reich officiating. Interment will be in the Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, McClure RR2. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the National Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania, PO Box 3109, Harrisburg, PA 17105.
MCCLURE - Phyllis E. "Sis" Pandel, 63, of 300 Mountain Spring Lane, McClure, died at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born Aug. 18, 1937 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Arthur F. and Frances V. (Harmon) Gingher. Her husband William D. Pandel Jr., whom she married March 11, 1960, survives. Also surviving are: children, William D. Pandel Jr., Mrs. Randy (Dana) Diven and Ginger L. Pandel, all of McClure; sisters and brother, Margaret E. Goss, San Diego, Calif., Beatrice H. Morgan, Clearfield and James R. Gingher of Milroy; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. She was employed by G. C. Murphy Company, Lewistown as a sales clerk and earlier by the American Viscose Corporation. She was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert Zorn and Murray Laite officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery. Family will receive friends 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Altoona, PA 16601, or to the Lewistown Dialysis Center, Electric Avenue, Lewistown, PA 17044. MIFFLINTOWN - Inez Sarver Parker of Mifflintown, died Monday, July 30, 2001. Born March 24, 1907, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late H. Franklin and Gertrude (Weaver) Sarver. Her husband, E. Southard Parker, died July 16, 1983. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Orville T. (Inez Southard) Beachley Jr., Buffalo, NY and Mrs. R. Terry (Jennie P.) Meiser, McAlisterville; five grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Luther Sarver and Hugh F. Sarver. She was a 1926 graduate of Port Royal High School and a 1931 graduate of Susquehanna University. She retired following 20 years of service to the State of Pennsylvania as an elementary school teacher. She taught in both the Juniata County School District and in a one-room school in Mifflin County. She was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, the Juniata County Retired Teachers Association, the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a life member of Mifflin Chapter 260 Order of the Eastern Star, Mifflintown and she had served as a volunteer for the Juniata County Meals on Wheels. Throughout her lifetime, she took great pride and pleasure in maintaining her home, garden and farm. Services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Douglas H. Kelley officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Friday at Mrs. Parker's Mifflintown residence. Memorial contributions may be made to: Sun Home Health Service Inc., 2 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Juniata County Meals on Wheels, 9 Cross St., Mifflintown, PA 17059. PORT ROYAL - Betty L. Parson, 71, of Port Royal RR1, died at 4:50 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Lewistown Hospital. Born January 23, 1930 in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of F. Lee Bryner, Port Royal RR1 and the late Mary Alice (Milliken) Bryner. Her husband, Paul C. "Johnnie" Parson survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Melodye J. Chapman, New Berlinville; brothers, F. Lee "Tub" Bryner Jr., McAlisterville and Thomas E. Bryner, Meridian, MS; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was a tax collector for Spruce Hill Township for several years. She was a member of the Honey Grove United Methodist Church. She was a member of the McCullochs Mills Memorial and Historical Association and the Relay for Life program. She sang for various churches and at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with the Rev. Dennis R. Thompson Jr. and the Rev. Don Walters officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 2-9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Relay for Life, c/o American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, Pa 17044.
