PORT ROYAL - Robert John "Bobby" Plant Jr., 38, of 502 Market St., Port Royal, died of natural causes Thursday, March 1, 2001 in Middleboro, MA. Born May 22, 1962 in Muncy, he was a son of Thelma E. (Laurenson) Plant of 502 Market St., Port Royal and the late Rev. Robert J. Plant Sr., who preceded him in death Jan. 20, 1974. Surviving are: paternal grandmother, Mrs. Elner Plant, Lewistown; maternal grandmother, Vera Laurenson, Hughesville; and a brother and sister, Peter L. Plant, Port Royal and Mrs. Roy (Becky) Murphy, Mifflintown RR5. He was a 1980 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown, a 1984 graduate of Electronic Institutes of Harrisburg and attended the Shippensburg State College, Shippensburg. He was a television cable tester working for Worldbridge Broadband Services, Inc., C-Cor.net, State College. He was a member of Port Royal United Methodist Church, Port Royal. He was an avid racing fan. His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Port Royal United Methodist Church, with Pastor Frank J. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. There will be no viewing; however, family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. Sunday until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, HC-63 Box 30, Mifflintown, PA 17059, or made to the charity of one's choice. The Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal is in charge of arrangements.
MCALISTERVILLE - Marlin S. Potter, 87, of McAlisterville RR1, died at 11:39 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Brookline Manor Convalescent and Rest Home, Mifflintown. Born March 19, 1913, in Monroe Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Banks C. and Minnie E. (Landis) Potter. His wife, Laura E. (Ehrisman) Potter, whom he married June 29, 1935, died Feb. 12, 1995. Surviving are: children, Roy R. Potter, McAlisterville, Dale M. Potter, New Bloomfield, Roger L. Potter and Lorraine M. Lauver, both of McAlisterville RR1, and Lois Potter, Clifton Heights; brother and sisters, Leroy Potter, Ardella Horting, Miriam Straub, all of Harrisburg, Gladys Dockey, Branchdale, and Geraldine Potter, Mt. Holley Springs; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Potter; eight brothers and five sisters. He attended Metz School, Millersburg. He farmed the family farm in Monroe Township, Juniata County, all of his adult life. He also worked at the Van Dyke Brick Works and seasonally at the McAlisterville Cannery. He retired in 1977 after being employed for 27 years as a carpenter for Bethlehem Steel. He was a member of Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2, the Perry Saddle Club, New Bloomfield and the Greenwood Trout Club. He enjoyed carpentering, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, reading and western movies. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the APDA, Greater Delaware Valley Chapter, c/o APDA D & R Center, Crozer Chester Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Boulevard, Upland, PA 19013.
BURNHAM - Harold G. "Dutch" Powell, 80, of Highland Avenue, Burnham, died at 11:56 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born Dec. 21, 1920, in Burnham, he was a son of the late Herman S. and Jennie Mae (Summers) Powell. His wife, Mitsue (Sakurai) Powell, whom he married Aug. 27, 1954, survives. Also surviving are: children, Gary "Sing" Powell, McClure, Mrs. Ronald (Rose) Willow, Vira, Mrs. Stephen (Susan) Carstetter, McClure, Jacqueline Williams, Lumber City and Mrs. David R. (Jill) Harshbarger, McVeytown; two brothers, Marlin M. Powell, Lewistown and Nelson A. Powell, Burnham; a step-sister, Shirley Boulin, Sacramento, CA; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Raymond S. Powell, Josephine Snook, Arlene Powell, Walter G. Powell and Lewis G. Powell. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas O. Powell, on Dec. 10, 2000. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, retiring in 1965, with 22 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1982 from Marlette Homes, Lewistown with 15 years service. He enjoyed camping at Poe Valley. He was an avid trout fisherman and hunter. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Lay Minister Harry LaRosse officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham, where graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post No. 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Bldg. D-101, Altoona, PA 16601.
SPRING MILLS - Tyler Scott Powers, 16, of Box 422, Spring Mills RR1, formerly of 604 Harvard St., Lewistown, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday Sept. 2, 2001, on US Hwy 322W. Born Jan. 19, 1985 in Lewistown, he was a son of Mary A. (Powers) Price of Box 422, Spring Mills RR1. Also surviving are: maternal grandmother, Nancy Powers, Valley Street, Lewistown; maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Ralph and Shirley Powers of 133 W. Fourth St., Lewistown. He was an 11th grade honor roll student at Penns Valley High School, who worked part time at the Hummingbird Restaurant, Spring Mills. He attended Pleasant Acres Assembly of God Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had played Little League baseball and football in Mifflin County. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Darrell Wireman officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Penns Valley Scholarship Fund in loving memory of Tyler Powers, Route 45, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
LEWISTOWN - George L. Price, 78, of 37 Woodbine Rd., Lewistown, died at 9 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2001 at the Beverly Healthcare/William Penn, Lewistown. Born on May 6, 1923 in Huntingdon, he was the son of Jess and Edna (Farmer) Price. His wife, Erma J. (Esh) Price, died on March 15, 1985. He the last of his immediate family and was survived by a son, George J. Price, Huntingdon, and a daughter, Darlene DeLancy, Oakland Mills; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. He retired from Conrail in 1983 after 43 years of service. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in the European Theater. He attended the Centre Union Church. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Leon Clayberger officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery, Mill Creek. Memorial contributions can be made to Centre Union Church, 470 Caldwell Hill, Lewistown, PA, 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Helen S. Price, 91, a resident of Ohesson Manor, formerly of 45 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 6:33 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2001, at the nursing home. Born May 21, 1910, in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Ross and Mary (Hillegass) Shippy. Her husband, C. Ray Price, preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1995. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She retired from the Mifflin County School District, having taught Grade 2 for many years. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Women of the ELCA and the Esther Circle and assisted with the alter committee. She was a member of the retired teachers association and was a patron and supporter of the community concerts program. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 283 of Lewistown and the Mifflin County Historical Society. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Schellsburg Cemetery, Schellsburg. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
WARREN, Mich. - George M. Prough Jr., 53, of Warren, Mich., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at St. John Oakland Hospital, Madison Heights, Mich. Born Oct. 28, 1947, in Lewistown, he was the son of Fay and George Prough Sr. His wife, Louise Prough of Warren, Mich., survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Amanda Prough, at home; sisters, Mrs. Chuck (Donna) Carpenter, Barbara Prough, Mrs. Steve (Carolyn) Sowders, and Mrs. Greg (Terrie) White. He was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a computer programmer. Services were held at the E. J. Mandziuk & Son Funeral Directors, 22642 Ryan Road, Warren, Mich., with the Rev. David Gladstone officiating. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery, Fraser, Mich.
WILKES-BARRE - Donald B. Pry Sr., 81, of Mountaintop, Luzerne County, formerly of Lewistown, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born Nov. 15, 1919, in Spruce Hill, Juniata County, he was the son of the late William and Ida (Smith) Pry. He is survived by his wife, Jennie (Yocum) Pry of Mountaintop, with whom he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on July 13, 2000. Also surviving are: two daughters Nancy J. Mintzer of Orefield and Deborah Tosline of Mountaintop; a son, Donald B. Pry Jr. of Mountaintop; sisters, Mildred Pry and Gertie Palm, both of Lewistown, and Myrtle Holland of Ohio; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was employed as a welder for King Fifth Wheel Company, Mountaintop. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and operated a gun shop in Mountaintop. He was a member of the Manbeck Mennonite Church of Beaver Springs. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the McCune Funeral Home Inc., 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, PA. Interment will be in Albert Cemetery, Mountaintop. Family will receive friends 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown. Visitation hours at the funeral home will conclude at 6 p.m. with a service conducted by Rev. Carl Geissinger.
