GRANVILLE - Leigh E. Prye, 82, of the Malta Home, Granville, and formerly of Market Street, McVeytown, died at 8:35 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at the Malta Home. Born March 8, 1919, in Juniata County, he was a son of the late Luther M. and Lillian (Rowe) Prye. His wife, Mabel F. (Heckman) Prye, whom he married July 5, 1946, survives. Also surviving are: siblings, Mrs. William (Flo) Watts, McAlisterville, Jean Singer, Mifflintown, Harold Prye, Orbisonia, and Donald Prye, Mexico. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army having served in the European Theatre. He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He was a member of Centre Lutheran Church, Mifflintown RD2, and held lifetime memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5935, Belleville, the Juniata Valley Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, and the McVeytown Fire Company, having served as captain of the Fire Police. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #0298, Mifflintown, the McVeytown Ambulance Association and the McVeytown Lions Club. For many years he raised and lowered the American Flag daily on the square in McVeytown. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Jeanette Rapp officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown, where graveside Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post #7011, Lewistown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday, at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Margaret C. Prye, 92, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Lewistown RR4, died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Aug. 15, 1909, in Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Adam Henry and Jennie (Britcher) Sheaffer. Her husband, John W. Prye, died Oct. 29, 1978. Surviving are: a son, Howard S. "Bud" Prye, Springfield, VA; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, three brothers and two sisters. Early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation, drove bus for Lewistown Transportation Company and later owned and operated Prye's Store, Lewistown RR4 until 1971. She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Darrell G. Wireman officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Frank E. Pupo of 213 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 4:34 p.m. Sunday, April, 8, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 25, 1920, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James and Angelinia (Lorio) Pupo. His wife, Donna (Lewis) Pupo, whom he married June 1951, survives. Also surviving are: children, James Pupo, Chalfont, Marie Pupo, Philadelphia, Tony Pupo, Leo Pupo, and Scott Pupo, all of Lewistown, Carmen Steve, Wyoming, Pa., Donna Matthews, State College and Beth Trevisani, Yardley; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Vincent Pupo, Anthony P. Combriato, and Tressie M. Bender. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served in the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific. He owned and operated Pupo's Shoe Repair Shop from 1951 until the present. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lewistown. He was also a member of VFW Post 7011, Lewistown, the Elks Lodge 663, Lewistown, and the Cobbler's Club. He was an avid baseball fan and coached Little League in Mifflin County for 40 years. He started the Mifflin County Pony League. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lewistown, with Father Larry Coakley officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, where graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Clarence Henry Pyle, 84, of RR1, Route 104, Mount Pleasant Mills, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at his home. Born April 12, 1917, in Greenwood Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Jacob and Savilla (Swartz) Pyle. His wife, Esther (Zeiders) Pyle, whom he married Sept. 19, 1937, at the residence of the late Rev. Bierley in Verdilla, survives. Also surviving are: children, Clarence "Eugene" Pyle, Fleetwood, Elwood J. Pyle, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, Dale A. Pyle, Beaver Springs, and Mrs. Robert L. (Orpha J.) Meiser, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1; a sister, Minnie Meiser, Mifflintown; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five, brothers, John Pyle, Adam Pyle, Samuel Pyle, Howard Pyle (in infancy), and Elmer Pyle and five sisters, Amy Pontius, Ella Shellenberger, Maria Wochley, Genella Spade, and Dorothy Swartz. He was educated in the Juniata County rural schools. In 1950, he founded, owned and operated the C. H. Pyle & Son Overhead Doors and Ornamental Iron Works, located in The Old Feed Mill on Route 104, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1. He retired due to ill health in 1980. He was a charter member and trustee of Chapman's Community Chapel, Port Trevorton RR1. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association; a member of the Middleburg Lodge No. 619 F&AM of Pennsylvania; a member of the Richfield Ambulance League Inc., Richfield; the Reliance Hose Company No. 1 Ambulance League, Middleburg; the Evangelical Community Hospital Medic 55 & Medic 60, Lewisburg; the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department, Mount Pleasant Mills; and the Freeburg Volunteer Fire Company, Freeburg. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Pastor Roy S. Kifer officiating and the Rev. Lloyd Shellenberger assisting. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery, Richfield. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. MIDDLETOWN - Marjorie B. Pyle, 92, formerly of Middletown, died Monday, June 4, 2001, in Broomall Presbyterian Village, Broomall. Born in October 1908, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Nora (Garrett) Burns. Her husband, Percy B. Pyle, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a daughter, Sondra E. McGrath, Broomall; two sisters, Arlene Headings, Lewistown and Janice Pike, Vero Beach, Florida; and one grandson. She was a retired school teacher in the Middletown Area School District. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown and the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home, 260 E. Main St., Middletown, with the Rev. Dr. J. Richard Eckert officiating. Interment will be in the Middletown Cemetery. Friends may call 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. HARRISBURG - Clinton H. Quigley, 81 of Swatara Township, Harrisburg, formerly of Lewistown, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Harrisburg Hospital. Born Feb. 29, 1920, in Duncannon, Perry County, he was the son of the late Quinton H. and Daphene (Fissel) Quigley. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria R. (Beaver) Quigley. His second wife, Sheri Quigley, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Andrew Quigley of Chicago, Ill., Robert Quigley of Mesa, Ariz., and Kevin Quigley of Mechanicsburg; a stepdaughter, Kim Thomas of Bethesda, Md.; a brother, Robert Quigley of Gainesville, Fla.; and three grandchildren. He was president of the Lewistown High School Class of 1938, where he was a member of the football and track teams. During World War II, he was a captain in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps and served in Europe for five years in the Third Army. He graduated from the Penn State University's School of Hotel Management in 1948. He began his career at the Williamsburg Inn, was manager of Chownings Tavern and followed that with a number of hotel managerial positions. In 1950, he served as resident manager of the Holiday Inn Towne, now the Crown Plaza. He was also an associate real estate broker, apartment complex manager, and currently worked in the House of Representatives Republican Communications Office. Past memberships have included the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, B.P.O.E Elks, Trade Winds Club of Harrisburg, Junto Club of Indianapolis, and Ye Host Square Club of New York. He was a Rotarian for 40 years. Current memberships include Lowther Manor Lodge No. 781, F&AM; the Penn State Hotel Society; the Pioneer Club; the Varsity S Club; the Chi Phi Fraternity; life member of the Penn State Alumni Association; the Harrisburg Chapter Penn State Alumni Association; charter member of the National World War II Memorial; and most recently was named to the Voters Hall of Fame for having voted in every election in the past 50 years. A memorial service will be held at noon Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Chestnut St., Camp Hill, with the Rev. Dr. J. Stewart Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Lewistown at the convenience of the family. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday in the fellowship hall of the church. HUSTONTOWN - Rosanna Marie Ramsey, 41, of Doran Road, Hustontown, died of natural causes at 5:44 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born Nov. 24, 1959, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Naomi B. (Yoder) Yoder of Belleville and the late John R. Yoder Sr. Her husband, Robert L. Ramsey, whom she married Aug. 25, 1989, survives. Also surviving are a sister, Marjorie Armstrong, Belleville and two half brothers, John R. Yoder Jr., Allensville and Gordon W. Yoder, Canadisia. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Richard Yoder. She was last employed as a secretary at Valley View Haven, Belleville. She was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville, with the Rev. Eric Renno, Pastor Mayard Beitzel and Pastor Sam Stoey officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Mennonite Cemetery, Belleville. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. GRANVILLE - H. Alan Readdy, 74, of the Malta Home, Granville, and formerly of 104 S. Main St., Yeagertown, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the home. Born June 2, 1927, in Port Royal, he was the son of the late Herbert E. and Isabel N. (Koons) Readdy. Surviving are two sisters, Nanciann R. Haller of Lewistown and Mrs. Charles (Jacquie) Righter of Yeagertown. He was self-employed in the printing business and was a veteran of World War II. He was a Lutheran by faith. A public viewing will not be held. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Memorials may be made to Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, 611 S.
