LEWISTOWN - Ruth M. Renninger, 85, of 8 Green Tree Lane, Lewistown, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, at her residence. Born Dec. 26, 1915, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Wayland and Lottie (Gemberling) Sechler. Her husband, Charles R. "Ozzie" Renninger, died July 11, 1976. She is survived by children, Mrs. Donald (Jane) Bumgardner, 8 Green Tree Lane, Lewistown and Jack Whitelaw, New Kensington; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother Edward Sechler. She had been employed by Peoples Drug Store. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose, Lewistown, the auxiliary of the Mifflin County Firemen's Association, past president of the NCO Wive's Club and a life member of the Fame Fire Co., the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co., the Brooklyn Hose Co., the Junction Fire Co., the Granville Fire Co. and the United Fire & Rescue Fire Co. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, with Father Derald Stump officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church (please enter from the Water Street entrance). Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. BELLEVILLE - Katie L. Renno, 83, of 2847 SR 655, Belleville, died at 1:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at her residence. Born Oct. 15, 1917, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Christ K. and Susie E. (Peachey) Swarey. Her husband, Joshua P. Renno, died Feb. 11, 1984. Surviving are: children, Susie E. Yoder, Mary E. Kanagy, Catherine J. Renno, John M. Renno, and Lena M. Renno, all of Belleville; brothers and sisters, Daniel J. Swarey, Reedsville, Judith B. Kanagy and Susie J. Peachey, both of Belleville, and Shem O. Swarey, Allensville; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Amos J. Renno; an infant son, Daniel J. Renno; an infant daughter, Emma J. Renno; six sisters and five brothers. She was a member of the Old Order Amish. Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the John B. Kanagy residence, with Bishop David J. Peachey and Bishop Louie D. Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Whitehall Amish Cemetery. ROCKVILLE - James W. Rhea Sr., 70, of Mifflintown RR3 (Rockville), died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001, at his home. Born May 30, 1930, in Orbisonia, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Ross and Mary (Gloss) Rhea. His wife, Joan E. (Beward) Rhea, died Dec. 20, 1995. He is survived by three sons, James W. Rhea Jr. of Mifflintown RR2, Scott E. Rhea of Mifflintown RR3 and Michael A. Rhea Sr. of Mifflin HC 67; three sisters, Elsie Frohm, Elenor Burge, and Shirley Walls, all of Lewistown; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, May Fultz, Ellen Stimely, Hilda Kilmer and George Rhea. He retired from Empire Kosher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and racing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown. LEWISTOWN - Mae M. Kennedy Rheam, 92, of 36 Old Stagecoach Road, Lewistown, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her residence. Born Sept. 11, 1908, in Campbell County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Luther and Nannie (Barley) Zickefoose. Her husband, Otha M. Kennedy, died April 27, 1981. She is survived by children, Mrs. Jack (E. Fay) Thomas-Morley, Belleville, Mrs. Herbert (Audrey) Wertz and Charles (Bonnie) Bair, both of Lewistown, Alice Baker, Kansas City, Mo., Otha M. Kennedy Jr., Wichita Falls, Texas and Danny K. Kennedy, Reedsville; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She was a homemaker and early in life was employed at the American Viscose Corporation. She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church and the Fidelis Class of the Sunday school. She was also a life member of the Reedsville Fire Company auxiliary and a member the Lewistown Golden Age Club, the Lewistown Senior Citizens Organization, the Pensioneers, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lewistown Elks Lodge auxiliary. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz and the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. REEDSVILLE - John H. Rhoades, 90, of 55 Rhoades Drive, Reedsville, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his residence. Born Jan. 9, 1911, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Gruver C. and Louella (Dobson) Rhoades. His wife, Madge M. (Mitchell) Rhoades, died July 14, 1990. He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mona L.) Stitt and Mrs. John (Nancy L.) Goshorn, both of Reedsville; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Frank L. Rhoades and three sisters, Ruth I. Kuhns, Clare E. Fickes, and Mary E. Rhoades. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School. He was a boring mill operator at Standard Steel, Burnham for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy, where he had taught Sunday school for many years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milroy, with Pastor Rosalie N. Smith and Pastor Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville. LEWISTOWN - Dale K. Rhodes, 67, of 133 Maitland Garden Road, Lewistown, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at his residence. Born Dec. 24, 1933, in Oliver Township, he was the son of the late Roy and Belle (Kimberly) Rhodes. His wife, Hannah (Harshbarger) Rhodes, whom he married in 1953, survives. Also surviving are: children, Marlin Rhodes, Jeffrey D. Rhodes and David L. Rhodes, all at home, Mrs. John (Susan) Crumbine, Lewistown, and Beverly J. Meyer, Minnesota; brothers and sister, Marion "Buck" Rhodes, Robert P. Rhodes, and Guy S. Rhodes, all of McVeytown, and Ethel Hennenan, Huntingdon; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, two sisters and two brothers. He was a farmer and retired from Overhead Door. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. MILROY - Elisha E. "Lash" Rhodes, 57, of 11 A St., Milroy, died at 12:50 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 21, 1943, in Reedsville, he was the son of Irene Louise (Griffith) Sassaman of Mifflintown and the late Frank E. Rhodes. His wife, Donna L. (Henry) Rhodes, whom he married Sept. 4, 1964, survives. He is also survived by children, Harry G. Rhodes and Edward W. Rhodes, both of Reedsville and Lisa A. Cisney, Milroy; half-brothers and half-sister, Raymond J. Sassaman Jr. and Ruth E. Peffer, both of Lewistown, and William Henry Sassaman, Mifflintown; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by stepfather, Raymond J. Sassaman and half-brother, Donald C. Sassaman. He was a United States Army veteran and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He worked for Marlette Homes, Lewistown for 34 years, retiring on disability in 2000. He attended Shrader United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. L. Ed Moore officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. EPHRATA - Genevieve E. Rhodes, 82, of Ephrata Manor Nursing Home, died at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at the home. She had lived most of her life in Yeagertown. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee R. Rhodes on July 30, 1989. Surviving in a son, Lee R. Rhodes, Jr. of Mount Gretna. She was a long-time member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Yeagertown. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy, with the rev. Philip C. Tundel officiating. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Benevolent Fund, United Church of Christ Homes, 8501 Paxton St., Hummelstown, PA, 17036.
