LEWISTOWN - Anna B. Riedy, 100, of 9 Henrietta St., Lewistown (her niece's residence), formerly of 29 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown, died at 1:17 a.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 30, 1900, in Mifflin, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Margaret (Rowe) Toner. Her husband, Paul I. Riedy, died in 1967. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, William G. Toner and two sisters, Jennie Stewart and Elizabeth Baker. She was a homemaker, and early in life she worked in the spinning department of the American Viscose Corporation. She was a member of the Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she was the oldest living member of the church; past president of the Beacon Sunday School Class; and taught the primary department of the Sunday school for 10 years. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John Looney and the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. OCALA, Fla. - Clifford S. Riley, 87, of 93 E. Gleneagles Road, Ocala, Fla., formerly of Lewistown, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Sylvia's Hospice House, Ocala, Fla. Born Oct. 6, 1913, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Emma (Siebert) Riley. His wife, Janet (Owens) Riley, whom he married June 7, 1941, survives. Also surviving are a son, Clifford O. Riley, 192 Fairway Place, Lewistown and a sister, Mary Evelyn Startzell, Camp Hill. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He was a 1931 graduate of Lewistown High School. He excelled in basketball and later played for the Rayoneers. He was a U S veteran of World War II, having served in the ETO and the Battle of the Bulge. He was owner of Bell Laundry and Cleaners, Lewistown, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lewistown. He was a life member of BPOE 663, Lewistown and past member of the Kiwanis, the Lewistown Country Club, the Blue Lodge Masons, all of Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Arrangements were made by the National Crematorium Society.
SUMTER, SC - Harriet Jane Caldwell Ripp, 75, of Sumter, SC, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Sarah (Oberdorf) Caldwell. Her husband of 27 years, Stanley Jefferson Ripp, survives. Also surviving are: a son, John Kline of Mesa, AR; a daughter, Lisa Kline Hugo of Sumter, SC; three stepsons, Michael Ripp of E. Setauket of Long Island, NY, Stephen Ripp of Ft. Salonga, Long Island, NY and Gregory Ripp of Brandon, FL; a stepdaughter, Angela Ripp Tully of Bethlehem; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Snook and three brothers, James Caldwell, Alvah Caldwell and William Caldwell. She received her degree in nursing from Lewistown Hospital and later retired from there as a registered nurse. She was a member of New Beginnings Assembly of God of Sumter, SC. Services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel, Sumter, SC, with the Rev. Sam Elliott officiating. Family will receive friends 4 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. ORRSTOWN - Walter A. Ritchey, 79, 14327 Cumberland Highway, Orrstown, died at 2:58 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Chambersburg Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1921, in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Ambrose and Olive (Shields) Ritchey. His wife Della E. Harshbarger, whom he married April 17, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: children, Walter A. Ritchey, Orrstown and Judy E. Heberlig, Newburg; step-sons, William Harshbarger, McVeytown and Richard Harshbarger, Lancaster; brothers and sisters, Henry Ritchey and Marshal Ritchey, both of McVeytown, Ambrose Ritchey, Newark, OH and Tessie Knox, Granville; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 80th Division in Europe. He retired in 1976 from the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. He was a member of the Wayne United Methodist Church, McVeytown, and a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post No. 223, Shippensburg. One funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, with the Rev. Earl F. Barrick and the Rev. Mark A. Hagy officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Bratton Township, Mifflin County. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home. A second funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, McVeytown with the Rev. Mark A. Hagy officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the second service at the Harshbarger Funeral Home. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion posts. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg is in charge of arrangements.
GRANVILLE - Thelma A. Rittenhouse, 58, of the Malta Home Personal Care, Granville, formerly of Pine Glen, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Malta Home. Born April 20, 1943, in Bratton Township, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. Sr. and Sylvia E. (Rebman) Rittenhouse. Surviving are: brothers and sisters, Esther M. Grassmyer, Virginia R. Harshbarger, Paul M. Rittenhouse, Charles L. Rittenhouse, all of Lewistown RR, Gladys R. Bartlett, Simsbury, CT, Mrs. Glen (Helen J.) Espigh and James O. Rittenhouse, both of McVeytown RR, Mary M. Maxwell, Mattawana, and Mrs. Max (Hazel F.) Fisher, Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Ruth E. Ronk, Zana L. Hesser and Harry E. Rittenhouse Jr. She was employed at Skills of Central Pennsylvania Inc., Lewistown for many years. She was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. She also attended the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She liked to crochet. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Malta Home, PO Box E, Granville, PA 17029.
LEWISTOWN - Burton E. Ritter, 79, of 2795 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 at his residence. Born July 29, 1921 in Burnham, he was a son of the late James and Ella Mae (Shawver) Ritter. His first wife, Dorothy (Stuck) Ritter, preceded him in death in 1966. His second wife Betty (Druckemiller) Stine Ritter, whom he married in June of 1968, survives. Also surviving are: step-children, Mrs. Terry (Brenda) Colyer, Forest Edge Lane, Lewistown, Edward A. Stine Jr., Brundidge, Ala., Patricia A. Stine, McClure RD1, Randy Lee Stine, Headland, Ala., Michael Joseph Stine, Walnut Street, Lewistown and Lisa Stine, Longfellow; 10 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He worked as a laborer for Hawstone Brickyard and LeMac Foundry, retiring in 1972. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in China, Burma and India. He was a member of the East Derry Fire Company, the Brooklyn Hose Company, and a member of the American Legion McClure Post No. 942. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing, however, family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Monday until the time the funeral service at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Sylvester J. Ritter, 93, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Reedsville RR1 (Barrville), died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, at the nursing home. Born July 17, 1907, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Emma May (Snyder) Ritter. His wife, Esther B. (Baumgardner) Ritter, died Aug. 13, 1960. His companion, Verna Jean Zimmerman of Lewistown, survives. Also surviving are: children, Harold Ritter, Anna Ritter, Virginia Gingerich, and William Ritter, all of Yeagertown, Russell Ritter, Alfarata, Charles Ritter, Chester, NJ., James Ritter, Daniel Ritter, Shirley LeFevre, Jackie Zimmerman and Anna Lee Zimmerman, all of Lewistown, Dennis Ritter, Philipsburg, NJ, Pat Rhodes, Willow Hill, and Peggy Ritter, Burnham; a brother, Paul Ritter, Lewistown; 45 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph F. Ritter on June 3, 1998. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was decorated with the European African Middle Eastern Medal with one Bronze Star. He worked as a custodian with the Mifflin County School District, retiring in 1971. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Murray Robinson, 77, of 200 Fairway Place, Lewistown, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 12, 1923, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Jean S. Worth. His wife, Patricia A. (Lilly) Robinson, whom he married May 31, 2000, survives. He was the last of his immediate family. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a retired purchasing manager at Industrial Pump Company in Englewood, NJ. Funeral services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
