Doris A. Scudder of Williamsport died Oct. 5, 2001. She was the widow of Charles T. Scudder Sr. Surviving are a son, Charles T. Jr., Williamsport; a daughter, Mary Ann Johnson, Lewistown; a sister, Georgene Orth, Montoursville; two granddaughters, Cynthia J. Everly and Ann R. Gearhart, both of Lewistown; and three great-grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Bethany Lutheran Church, 369 Broad St., Montoursville, PA 17754.
BLAIN - Ruth M. (Struble) Seager, 84, of Blain RR1 died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in the Sara Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. Born July 24, 1917, in McKees Rocks, she was the daughter of the late Daniel E. and Mary W. (McMullen) Struble. Her husband, John F. Seager, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a son, Donald E. Seager, Loysville RR1, two daughters, Barbara J. Bower and Linda L. Seager, both of Blain RR1; and five grandchildren. She had attended the former Carlisle Commercial College. She was retired from the Perry Health Center, Loysville and had also worked at Carlisle Hospital, the State Civil Service Commission, Harrisburg and the Blain Garment Factory. She was a member of the New Germantown United Methodist Church, New Germantown, where she taught Sunday school for over 70 years and played the piano and organ for over 50 years. She was also president of United Methodist Women's Society. She was also a member of the Blain Ambulance Club, the ladies auxiliary of the Blain Fire Company, and the Blain Senior Citizen's Center. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing and church work. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Germantown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Raffensperger and the Rev. Dale Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Blain Cemetery, Blain RR1. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Clarence J. Seaman, 63, of Richfield RR2, died at 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services are private, but a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Richfield United Church of Christ, with the Rev. George W. Henry officiating and the Rev. Brittin F. Stimeling assisting. Interment will be in St. Peter's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Millerstown RR2. The George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, is in charge of arrangements.
BELLEFONTE - Florence Eleanor Searer, 92, of Bellefonte, formerly of Mechanicsburg and Lewistown, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Centre Crest Nursing Home. Born Sept. 2, 1908, in Unionville, she was the daughter of the late Alexander J. and Anna P. (Gunther) Watson. Her husband, Harry C. Searer, died Oct. 22, 1980. She is survived by children, Barbara A. Shover of Mechanicsburg and Harry J. Searer of Lemoyne; a sister, Betty Moore of Bellefonte; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Searer. She was a graduate of Harrisburg Community College Practical Nursing Program. She was an LPN for the Harrisburg State Hospital and had previously worked as a private duty nurse in the Harrisburg area. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, State College. She volunteered for 10 years at the Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, where she also made her home from 1983-1993, and at the United Methodist Children's Home in Mechanicsburg. She enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with the Rev. Thomas H. Jacobs and Donald R. Shover officiating. Interment will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Verena A. Seby, 51, of 406 Open Hearth, Lewistown, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at her residence. Born March 24, 1950, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Hannelore (Schroeder) Swanger of 3135 U.S. Highway 522 North, Lewistown, and the late Robert L. Swanger and Perry E. Swanger. Her husband, Stephen K. Seby, whom she married in October 1968, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Stephen K. Seby Jr., 400 8th Ave., Burnham; brothers, Robert L. Swanger, Enola, Douglas E. Swanger, Chambersburg, and a sister, Lisa M. Farber, Worcester, MA; and a grandson, Evan. She was a 1968 graduate of Chief Logan High School and the assistant vice president and Branch Manager of the Market Street office of Omega Bank. In her 25 years of service, she headed numerous community projects sponsored by Omega Bank. She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Burnham. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
MT. UNION - David M. Secrest, 77, of 642 Kistler Road, Mt. Union, died unexpectedly at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 5, 1924, in Mapleton Depot, he was the son of the late William G. and Marie J. (Snyder) Secrest. His wife, Opal (Beatty) Secrest, survives, along with their son, Darrell D. Secrest, Shirleysburg. He retired from Sperry-New Holland, Belleville, where he worked for many years. He was a member of the McVeytown Lodge #376, F&AM. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with Pastor Robert A. Brown Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Union Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic memorial service held at 6:45 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. LONGFELLOW - Kay D. Secrest, 54, of Gas Line Drive, Longfellow, died at 4 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2001, at her home. Born Aug. 17, 1946, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Merrill J. and Hazel M. (Harshbarger) Grassmyer. Her husband, Larry O. Secrest, whom she married June 23, 1967, survives. She is also survived by a son, Mark D. Secrest, McVeytown; three brothers, Glenn E. Grassmyer, Charles L. Grassmyer, and Ronald M. Grassmyer, all of Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Donna Snook) Sieber, Port Royal; and one grandson. Early in life, she was employed as a nursing assistant at Black's Hospital, Lewistown and later worked in home health care for the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging. She was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren and the Work and Win Sunday School Class of the church. She was also a member of the American Cancer Society, having walked in the survivors' lap of the 2000 Relay for Life. She was an avid sprint car fan and especially enjoyed watching her son race. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 551, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. DUNCANNON - Paul B. Seitz Jr., 66, of Duncannon RR4, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at his home. Born Aug. 30, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Paul B. Sr. and Thelma (Johns) Seitz. His wife, Doris (Wheeler) Seitz, survives. He is also survived by children, Paul B. Seitz III, Lewisberry and Pamela J. Magee, Mechanicsburg; brothers and sisters, Gene Seitz, McClure, N. Lee Gahagan and Marlene Stewart, both of Burnham, Celesta Youtz, Milroy, and Judy Bollinger, Lewistown; and two grandchildren. He retired as a crane operator from Bethlehem Steel Company, Steelton. He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Duncannon. He liked horses, fishing and hunting. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hill Cemetery, Duncannon RR4. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the Ronald C. L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon.
