REEDSVILLE - Marion C. "Buck" Semler, 82, of 184 Wilson St., Reedsville, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 28, 1918, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Edward and Winifred (Keegan) Semler. His wife, Hazel A. (Baker) Semler, survives. He is also survived by a son, David E. Semler, Reedsville; a sister, Catherine Guise, Gettysburg; three granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Semler in 1957, three sisters and two brothers. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the infantry with the Third Army in France and Germany, then with the occupation troops in Germany. He received a Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and numerous service ribbons. His duty stations following the war included the Panama Canal Zone, Korea, Okinawa, and several statewide bases. He retired from the military in 1964 with the rank of Specialist 5. He was employed at Fisher Electronics, Milroy until 1981. He was a member of Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935, Belleville and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed gardening, reading, watching sports, and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the American Diabetes Foundation, 2040 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
PORTAGE - Peggy G. (Diven) Shaffer, 49, of Portage, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at UPMC Lee Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 23, 1952, in Newton Hamilton, she was the daughter of Margaret (Rittenhos) Diven and the late Blair Robert Diven. Her husband, Edward J. Shaffer, whom she married Dec. 4, 2001, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Michael Diven, married to the former Lori Walker, Orbisonia, a step-daughter, Adrienne M. Shaffer and fiancee, Mark Mardis, Mundy's Corner; grandchildren, Brigit and Lauren, step-grandchildren, Christopher, Shane and Zachary Krinjeck; and Breann Mardis, sister of Debbie, wife of Galen Price, McVeytown; Ken Diven, married to the former Judy Sims, Mill Creek; Terry Diven, married to the former Susie Bollinger, McVeytown; James Diven, married to the former Diane Brunner, Newton Hamilton; Clair Diven, married to the former Sharon McKee, and Ronald Diven, both of McVeytown; and Robert Diven, Orbisonia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by her father, a grandson, Hunter, and sister-in-law, Shirley (Morrison) Diven. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Charles Kephart officiating. Interment will be in Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday, at The Mark A. Serenko Funeral Home, Portage, and from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Monday, at The Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union.
REEDSVILLE - Dorothy M. Shank, 82, of 55 Carriage House Lane, Outlook Pointe, Reedsville, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born Dec. 5, 1918, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Stella (Gordon) McClellan. Her husband, Albert E. Shank, died Sept. 17, 1998. Surviving are: a son, Ronald E. Shank, 120 Peace Drive, Lewistown; sisters, Anna M. Roan, Burnham and Mrs. Arthur (Helen L.) Bailey, Belleville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown for 57 years; a member of the United Methodist Women; was a former leader of the Esther Circle; and was a former teacher of the primary department of the church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. David Schmuck and Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. MARTINSBURG, WV - Waldo Rudolph Shank, 64, formerly of Middletown, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at the VAMC, Martinsburg, WV. Born in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Della Virginia Shank. His wife, P. Jane (Haywood) Shank, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Kelly S. Shank, Oak Hill, FL, Karen R. Lawrence and Andrea L. Lawrence, both of Smithsburg, MD, and a son, Edward D. Shank, Falling Waters, WV; an uncle, Ralph F. Shank, Rohrorsville, MD; an aunt, Irene G. Schroyer, Hagerstown, MD; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa L. Shank. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a truck driver. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #371, Frederick, MD, and the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #0010, Boonsboro, MD. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, at the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Tim Lester officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home.
BELLEVILLE - Fannie N. Sharp, 69, of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, died at 10:04 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Valley View. Born Dec. 5, 1931, in Brown Township, she was the daughter of the late Samuel D. and Magdelena (Bawel) Sharp. She is survived by stepmother, Mary B. Sharp, Lawrence County; brother and sisters, Samuel B. Sharp, Carson,Va., Mrs. Jacob (Rebecca) Sharp, Richfield, Mrs. Dan (Mary) King, Belleville, and Mrs. Andy (Katie) Byler, Catlett, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers, Nannie Sharp, Lizzie B. Peachey, Annie E. Yoder, Moses K. Sharp, Levi S. Sharp, and Noah B. Sharp. She was a member of Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, Reedsville, Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, Green Lane, Reedsville, with ministers Dan King and Jesse Lee Spicher officiating. Interment will be in Green Lane Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.

MILROY - Jesse Mark Sharp and Jessica Mae Sharp, infant twins of David S. and Sara Anna (Detweiler) Sharp of 250 Sigler St., Milroy, were stillborn at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. They are also survived by brothers and sisters, James D., Kevin R., Joseph L., Katie Ann, David K., and Kendall J. Sharp, all at home; maternal grandparents, David and Katie Detweiler of Belleville; and paternal grandmother, Katie Sharp of Belleville. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Green Lane Cemetery, Reedsville, with minister, Eli B. King Jr. officiating. Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.
CARLISLE - Sandra A. (Henry) Shaw, 61, of Carlisle, formerly of Lewistown, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2001, in Harrisburg Hospital. She is the daughter of the late Herman and Marian Henry of Lewistown. Surviving are her husband, Arnold C. Shaw; two daughters, Denise Bohn Herich of Germantown, MD, and Peggy Bohn Shuff of Lewisberry; a sister, Delores Henry Adams of Leesburg, FL; and two grandsons. Sandra grew up in Lewistown and was a 1957 graduate of Lewistown High School before moving to the Harrisburg area. She retired as an executive secretary for Hempt Bros. Inc. She was a woman full of life who possessed many talents, including interior decorating, gardening, cooking, button collecting and dance instruction She was a voracious reader and volunteered her time to read to elementary school students. She was deeply interested in politics and was active in the Republican Party. She was proud and honored to have worked closely with President Gerald Ford during his re-election campaign. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zimmerman Auer Funeral Home, 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Colonial Park, is handling the arrangements.
YARNELL - J. Roy Martin Shawley Sr., 77, of Yarnell, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at his residence. Born April 26, 1924, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Harry and Viola (Kline) Shawley. His wife, Eleanor (Albright) Shawley, whom he married on July 16, 1963, preceded him in death on July 15, 1990. Surviving are: three daughters, Joyce Miller of Cypress, TX, Sandy M. Switzer and Sally Shawley, both of Yarnell; two step-daughters, Connie Stoner of Bellefonte, and Jackie Flory of Milesburg; three sons, Richard M. Shawley of Orlando, FL, and J. Shawley Jr. and James H. Shawley, both of Yarnell; one step-son, William Runkle of Milroy; a brother, William Shawley of Yarnell; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sisters. He was a member of Yarnell United Methodist Church. He was a self-employed dairy farmer and was a forest fire warden for 40 years. He was a member of the Centre County Agriculture Forum and a former member of the Milesburg Fire Company. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 837 Main St., Howard, with the Rev. Herman K. Noll officiating. Interment will be in the Advent Cemetery in Boggs Township. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
