LANCASTER - Russell William Shotzberger, 75, of 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, formerly of Winterthur, Del., died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Brethren Village, after a lengthy illness. Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Russell William and Catherine (Paige) Shotzberger. His wife, Dora May (Hammond) Shotzberger, died in August 2000. He is survived by seven sons: David W. Shotzberger of Poughkeepsie, NY, Daniel C. Shotzberger of Wilmington, Del., John R. Shotzberger of Libby, Mont., James E. Shotzberger of New Castle, Del., Samuel T. Shotzberger of Cazenovia, NY, Mark G. Shotzberger of Middletown, Del., and Peter M. Shotzberger of Yorklyn, Del.; two daughters, Mrs. Barry (Ruth M.) Fenn of Libby Mont, and Mrs. Randall (Martha S.) Ploener of Hockessin, Del.; one sister, Helen June Shotzberger of Wilmington, Del.; and 13 grandchildren. He was a 1943 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served aboard the USS Philadelphia during World War II and served in the reserves during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Winterthur Gardens from 1952-1986, as a dairyman, butcher, farmer and groundskeeper. He was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren and he also served as a deacon for 26 years for the Wilmington Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, with the Rev. Guy Wampler officiating. There will also be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Winterthur Museum and Gardens Pavilion, Winterthur Del., with the Rev. Allan Hansel officiating. Private interment be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Russell William Shotzberger Memorial Fund, c/o the Winterthur Museum and Gardens, Winterthur, DE 19735. The Fred F. Groff Funeral Home, 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements.
AMELIA, VA - Donald James "Tre" Shreffler III, 21, of Amelia, VA, died July 14, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born Jan. 12, 1980, he was the son of Laura and Donald Shreffler Jr. of Amelia, VA. Also surviving are: a brother, Justin G. Shreffler of Amelia, VA; paternal grandmother, Peggy Shreffler of McClure; and maternal grandmother and grandfather, Blanche and Charles Harmon of Bailey, MS. A graduate of Amelia County High School, he was a lance corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a landscaper and an employee at Lowe's. A service with full military honors was held on Wednesday, July 18, in the Chapel of the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, with the Rev. Patrice Humphreys officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Amelia County Fire Department, Amelia, VA, 23002 or Mattoax Presbyterian Church, Amelia, VA, 23002.
MCCLURE - Donald J. Shreffler Sr., 73, of 5561 US Hwy. Route 522 North, McClure, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born July 18, 1927 in Lewistown, he was a son of Grace A. (Bishop) Shreffler of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown and the late Joseph W. Shreffler. His wife Peggy A. (Krichbaum) Shreffler, survives. Also surviving are: children, Donald J. Shreffler Jr., Amelia, Va., Mrs. Thomas (Judy) Bubb and Robert W. Shreffler, both of McClure, and Stephen A. Shreffler, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Samuel (Mary) Swab, Camp Hill, Kenneth L. Shreffler, McClure and Roy W. Shreffler, Lewistown; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Shreffler, and by a sister, Betty Shreffler. He attended Derry Township High School and attended Upland Junior College in Upland, Calif. He was a United States Army Corps of Engineers veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre. He was co-owner of a recreational vehicle factory in Pomona, Calif, and a home construction contractor, before working for 20 years for Marlette Homes as a plant supervisor and a production manager. He retired in 1992 from Trinity Plastics. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. He was an active volunteer for the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging until becoming ill, and was also a past senior deacon for the South Euclid Baptist Church in Ontario, Canada. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church, 22 Windmill Hill Road, Burnham, with Pastor Stan Smith officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing, however, family will receive friends from 5 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Fellowship Baptist Church, 22 Windmill Hill Road, Burnham, PA 17009, or to the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, 1 Buena Vista Circle, Lewistown, PA 17044. LEWISTOWN - Grace A. Shreffler, 96, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of 135 W. Third St., Lewistown, died at 6:22 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 14, 1905, in Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Larry and Martha (Delaney) Bishop. Her husband, Joseph W. Shreffler, preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Samuel (Mary G.) Swab, Camp Hill, Kenneth L. Shreffler, McClure and Roy W. Shreffler, Lewistown; a sister, Hazel Guisler, Huntingdon; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, and a number of brothers and sisters. She was a homemaker. She attended Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MCVEYTOWN - Junior C. Shuey, 80, of Irvin Hill Rd., McVeytown, and formerly of Ono, died at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born May 17, 1921, in Lebanon, he was a son of the late Harvey and Annie (Shirk) Shuey. His wife, Stella M. (Smith) Beatty Shuey, whom he married Nov. 22, 1975, survives. Also surviving are: stepchildren, Mrs. Lowell (Sandra) Rohrer, McVeytown, John R. Beatty, McVeytown, Mrs. Alfonso (Brenda Lee) Reid, Pasadena, MD, Mrs. George (Sharon) Langenfelder, Bel Air, MD; a sister, Miriam Peters, Ono; nine step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Carl Shuey and Chester Shuey, and a sister, Etta Shuey. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the European Theatre. He was employed at Millards Quarry in Annville for thirty-six years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Lebanon Valley Holiness Association and attended the Ferguson Valley Brethren in Christ Church. He played the trombone in the Lebanon Valley Gospel Band for over sixty years. His funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Lebanon God's Missionary Church, 2127 Hill St., with the Rev. Barry Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Ono Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, and from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at The Lebanon God's Missionary Church. GRANVILLE - Georgeinea Shultz, 86, of 380 Big Ridge Rd., Lewistown, died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 at the Malta Home, Granville. Born Jan. 25, 1915 in Morrisdale, she was the daughter of Alexander and Sara Ellen (Richmond) Davidson. Surviving is daughter, Helen E. Ferguson, Titusville, FL; brother and sister, Laura Close, Lancaster and Donald Davidson, McClure. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alexander, John and David Davidson; five sisters, Sally James, Hannah Shannon, Mary Ellen, Janet and Agnes Davidson. She was a homemaker and in her early life she was employed at the American Viscose Corporation as a production employee. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lind Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Malta Home, P.O. Box E, Granville, PA 17029.
DUNCANNON - Margie M. Johnson Shumaker, 63, of Duncannon RR4, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Route 11/15 near her residence. Born Aug. 21, 1937, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Eleanor (Wise) Johnson. Her husband, Lewis G. Shumaker, whom she married Oct. 27, 1957, died March 23, 1996. Surviving are: children, Louie E. Shumaker, Harrisburg, Bobby L. Shumaker, Duncannon, and Rose M. Fiegl, Marysville; brothers and sister, Johnny Johnson, Carlisle, Clair Johnson and Carl Johnson, both of Lewistown and Annabelle Parks, Elizabethtown; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Johnson. She was employed by Capitol Blue Cross. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown for 57 years; a member of the United Methodist Women; was a former leader of the Esther Circle; and was a former teacher of the primary department of the church. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Ronald C. L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon, with the Rev. B. Michael Brossman officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. William (Bill) Alexander Sieber, 58, of 315 N. Central Ave., Belmont, N.C., died Dec 11, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, S.C. He was a native of Lewistown, PA, and the son of Mina Rae Huffnagle and the late William Hugh Sieber. He is survived by his wife, Vickie (Crawford) Sieber; a daughter, Haley Marie Sieber, at home; a a stepbrother, Timothy Huffnagle of Belleville, and two step-sisters, Marlene Pennepacker and Cathy Clark, both of Lewistown. He was employed with Duke Power Company and worked at the Catawba Nuclear Station. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Belmont, N.C. Graveside services were held Dec. 14, 2001, with the Rev. Mark Andrews officiating.
