Nancy Jane Snook, 53, of Hartley House, Hartleton, formerly of Hightstown, NJ, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2001, as a result of a vehicle accident on Creek Road, Union County. Born April 14, 1948, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of Ruth (Wagner) and Cliff Hunt of Beaver Springs RR1 and John D. and Guadalupe Snook of McClure. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, John David Snook Jr., Hartley House, Hartleton; a sister and brother-in-law, Robin E. and Douglas Eiker, Little Egg Harbor, NJ; and a brother, Mark L. Snook, Hightstown, NJ; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy C. Renninger, Beaver Springs; two stepbrothers, Clifford Hunt Jr. and Keith Hunt, both of Hopewell, NJ. She graduated from Hightstown High School, class of 1966 and attended Maryland School for the Blind for a year. She also graduated from Ellen Cushing Junior College, Bryn-Mar, PA, in 1970 and attended Eastern College, St. Davids, for one year majoring in Spanish and French. She attended Church of Faith, Hartleton and was a member of Hope Baptist Church, Hightstown, NJ. She enjoyed country music, knitting and people. Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Ridge Lutheran Church, McClure RR2, with the Rev. Clyde B. Singh officiating. Interment will be in the Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, McClure RR2. The family will receive friends in the church Saturday from noon till the time of service. YORK - William C Snook, 90, of York, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services, Kingston Court, York. Born March 25, 1911, in Tyrone, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Laura Snook. His wife, Phyllis (Fluke) Snook, preceded him in death. Surviving are: children, Barbara Haywood, York, Joann Carper, Lewistown, and Gary Snook, Reedsville; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Snook, a granddaughter and a great-grandson. He was retired from Cooper Tool, Campbell Chain in 1975. He also worked for York Air Conditioning. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at John W. Keffer Funeral Home, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, with the Rev. David Hoh officiating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday, at the funeral home. MCVEYTOWN - Catharine M. "Cass" Snyder, 78, of SR 103 S, McVeytown, died at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 30, 1922, in Bratton Township, she was the daughter of the late Ralph H. and Ida Mae (Miller) Renninger. Her husband, Walter J. Snyder Sr., whom she married May 31, 1940, survives. Also surviving are: children, William R. Snyder, Pine Glen, W. James Snyder Jr., Pickerington, Ohio, Mrs. Rick (Sarah C.) Esh, Lewistown, John E. Snyder and Mark D. Snyder, both of McVeytown; a brother, Donald R. "Jim" Renninger, Pine Glen; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas L. Snyder on July 4, 2000 and a sister, Hazel Corbin. She was a homemaker and a former wide load escort for Marlette and Poloron Homes. She was a former Bratton township tax collector, auditor, and a member of the Board of Elections. For many years, she was the McVeytown contributor to the County Observer Rural News. She was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, where she served as a deacon; was a member and teacher of the Work and Win Sunday School Class; and was church custodian for over 20 years. She also helped with the church clothes closet, edited the church newsletter and was active with the Brooklyn Church of the Brethren Missions, Brooklyn, NY. She helped organize the Joy Seekers group among area churches. She was a member of the Mifflin County Republican Women of Action, and a past dispatcher and attendant for the McVeytown Ambulance Club. She enjoyed birdwatching, reading, was an avid animal lover and flower gardening, especially African Violets. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, and 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 67 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Hope Lodge, 125 Lucy Ave., Hummelstown, PA 17036.
LEWISTOWN - George A. Snyder, 56, of 410 Summit Drive, Lewistown, died at 4:18 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital emergency room. Born March 18, 1945, in Lewistown, he was the son of George H. and Alice (Roles) Stewart of Sanford, NC. Also surviving are: children, Robert L. Snyder Jr., West Decatur, Timothy S. Snyder, McAlisterville, Amber C. Snyder, Lewistown, and adopted children, Holly M. Snyder, Williamsport, Steven T. Snyder, Williamsport, and Heather R. Snyder, Williamsport; a sister, Roberta Haller, Hampton, VA; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild. He was a retired special education teacher for the Mifflin County School District for 30 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lewistown, a Girl Scout leader for over 15 years, and a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, St. Joseph Indian School, Nebraska, and the National Garden Club. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Kenneth W. Longfield officiating. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. BRUNSWICK, GA - Helen P. Snyder, 85, of 205 Pershing Circle, Brunswick, GA, formerly of Reedsville, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Hospice of Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA. Born April 15, 1916, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of the late Harvey P. and Sarah M. (Bedlyon) Earnest. Her husband, Lewis J. Snyder, died in 1987. Surviving are: children, John W. Dickson, Harrisburg and Mrs. Otis (Joyce E). Smith, Brunswick, GA; a brother, Byron C. Earnest, Milroy; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey S. and David L. Earnest. Early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation and then as a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Harrisburg. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525. BELLEFONTE - Margaret L. Snyder, 74, of Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte, formerly of Lewistown, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at the home. Born Nov. 13, 1926, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late T. Daniel and Edith (Lees) Snyder. Surviving are: brothers and sisters, Thomas D. Snyder, Fairfax, VA, Charles M. Snyder, Hublersburg, Edith S. Phillips, Port Royal, Mary S. Macialek, Bellefonte, and Virginia S. Schmelter, Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother and sister, Harry Snyder and Marion Snyder; half-sisters, Cardie Belton, Frances Barcy and Pauline Stouffer. She was a 1944 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal. She was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church and the Bellefonte Senior Citizens Center. In earlier life, she was a patient at the Selinsgrove State School and later had been employed by Skills and retired from the Juniata Association of the Blind, Lewistown. During her retirement, she made her home at Whispering Pines Retirement Home, Bellefonte. The service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in the East Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. The family will provide all flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MOUNT UNION - Tuie Jean Snyder, 83, of 46 Hubble St., Cedar Crest, Mount Union, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Mar. 5, 1918 in Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late James and Velika Christoff. Her husband, Charles J. Snyder, whom she married April 6, 1946 in Altoona, died Sept. 3, 1968. Surviving are: children, Malcolm Rex Conner, Pennsylvania, Kay S. Shatzer, Charleston, Ill., C. Edward Snyder, Lewistown and Joe J. Snyder, Cedar Crest; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Vasilo Dudick, Lottie Brown, Alex Christoff, George Christoff, and Arthur Christoff. She was a member of Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel. She was a member of Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union. She retired as an examiner from Scotty's Fashions in Lewistown in 1968. Prior to that, she was employed by L. Grief Mfg. and Genesco Corp. of Mount Union, for 35 years. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1. Grace G. Soles, 99, of Beaver Springs RR1, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 20, 1901, in Middlecreek, she was a daughter of the late Minnie (Goss) Baker. Her husband, Charles E. Soles, whom she married in 1919, passed away June 27, 1976. Earlier in life, she had been employed at the former Reigle Turkey Processing. She was a member of St. John's Ridge Lutheran Church, McClure RR2, where she had attended for over 90 years. She enjoyed quilting, baking and playing Skipbo. Surviving are: three daughters, Isabelle Diemand, Pottstown, Miriam Jones, Beaver Springs and Darlene Soles, Beaver Springs RR1; four sons, James F., Beaver Springs RR1, Paul E., Pottstown; Wayne H., Royersford, and Ronald C., McClure RR2; 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Iva Oberlin, McClure. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Lytton; two great-grandchildren, Dianne Whisler and Christina Furgison; a sister, Nora Whistler; and three brothers, Carl, Ray and Stoy Oberlin. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at St. John's Ridge Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Clyde B. Singh officiating. Interment will be in the Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, McClure RR2. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church 1 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday.
