NEWTON HAMILTON - Noah M. Souders, infant son of Matt S. and Terri E. (Suders) Souders of Newton Hamilton, was stillborn at 6:42 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. He is also survived by grandparents, Terry and Cookie Suders of Mapleton Depot and Sam and Peg Souders of Newton Hamilton; great-grandparents, Mary Suders, Mount Union RR2, Jim and Thelma Smith of McVeytown RR1, and Evelyn Souders, Shirleysburg; and great-great-grandparents, Genevieve Suders, Mount Union RR2 and Grace Fisher, McVeytown. Services will be held today at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Rich Morris officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1. LEWISTOWN - Nellie I. Sourbeck, 76, of 27 Forsythe Lane, Lewistown, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at her residence. Born Oct. 15, 1923, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Lukens) Lyter. Surviving are: a daughter, Sheila E. Sourbeck, 2103 Middle Road, Lewistown; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Early in life, she worked at Laskaris's Restaurant, the Lewistown Elks Club, and the pajama factory in Mifflinburg. She was last employed in the dietary department of Lewistown Hospital for 32 years. She was a former member of the Fame ladies auxiliary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. REEDSVILLE - Evelyn D. Sowers, 65, of 7757 SR 655, Reedsville, died at 6:49 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born March 11, 1935, in Rock Hill Furnace, she was a daughter of the late Dennie Mack and Naoma Maude (Wible) Moore. Her husband, Theodore H. Sowers, died Aug. 21, 1993. Surviving are: children, Pamela D. Nale, Steve J. Sowers, and Nicki J. Nale, all of Lewistown, and Julia N. Thomas, Mount Union; a sister, Naomi Mayes, Jensen Beach, Fla.; and one grandchild. She was a 1951 graduate of Orbisonia High School and a 1955 graduate of Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and worked at FW Black Community Hospital, the Lewistown Hospital, the Malta Home, and William Penn Nursing Home. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Lewistown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. James S. Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Orbisonia. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, but it will be closed casket.
LONGFELLOW - Lester A. Spearing, 74, of Longfellow, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. Born Sept. 22, 1926, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late James and Marguerite (Lear) Spearing. His wife, Dorothy A. (Miller) Spearing, whom he married Nov. 1, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Edward (Vicki) Kauffman, Yeagertown, Edward Spearing, Williamsport, and Mrs. Greg (Lynn) Walters, McVeytown; brothers and sisters, John Hershal Spearing, Marie Houser, Edith Laughlin, Mrs. Dale (Joyce) Wray, and Kenneth Spearing, all of Lewistown; Thomas Spearing, Reedsville, James Spearing, New Bloomfield, Charles Spearing, Harrisburg, and Robert Spearing, Millmont; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy P. Spearing in September 1988. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines. He retired from the American Viscose Corporation in 1972 with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Juniata Terrace Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and more recently attended the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In his early years, he enjoyed painting and drawing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home. BEAVERTOWN - Edna Specht, 89, of Beavertown, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born Sept. 2, 1911 in Beaver Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late James and Ada (Walters) Zechman. Her husband, Charles Specht, whom she married in 1937, died in 1963. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy, in infancy; two sisters, Maggie Weisen and Effie Weader; and two brothers, Walter and Raymond Zechman. She was employed by the former Saylor's Shirt Factory and the Old Trail Fabric Center. She was a member of Beavertown United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved to sew. Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Thomas Schroeder officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m.
LEWISTOWN - Karen A. Specht, 40, of Rear 417 Green Ave., Lewistown, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, at her residence. Born March 18, 1961, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Donald James of Bratton Avenue, Lewistown and Dolly (Reeder) James of Shaw Avenue, Lewistown. Her fiance, Terry L. Clemens of Rear 417 Green Ave, Lewistown, survives. She is also survived by brothers and sister, Mark James and Donald James, both of Lewistown and Cindy Greer, Georgia. She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter and a son, Shawn Lee Specht, on May 4, 2000. She was a homemaker. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Compassionate Friends, c/o 401 Yale St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
WEST MILTON - Marian Krick Specht, 88, of Old Route 15, West Milton, died Friday morning, Dec. 28, at her home. Born Jan. 23, 1913, in McClure, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Myrtie (Wagner) Krick and the widow of Eric W. Specht, who died in 1993. Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law, Ruth I. and William Tilburg, Milton; son and daughter-in-law, Eric D. and Mary Specht, Painted Post, NY; brothers and sisters, Karl Krick, McClure, Donald Krick, Dauphin, Ruth Mattern, Lewistown and Gladys Bowersox, McClure; seven grandchildren, Gregory Tilburg, Melissa Tilburg, Angela Tilburg, Brian Tilburg, Alan Specht, Jane Ames and Jill Specht; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Krick, and a sister, Phyllis Eichelberger. She was a home economics teacher at the Milton Jr. and Sr. High Schools, retiring in 1975 after 30 years of employment. She graduated from McClure High School and from Juniata College in 1935. She was a member, former Sunday school teacher and choir member of St. Peter's United Methodist, Milton. She enjoyed reading and was an avid Penn State fan. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dwaine E. Krebs and the Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will be in the Milton Cemetery. Shaw Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Teena R. Specht, 26, of Lewistown RR3, died at 1:21 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born Aug. 23, 1974, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Gary L. Specht of Lewistown RR3 and Sharon (Reinhart) Specht of 1915 Glenwood Ave., Lewistown. Her husband, Hiram W. Wilt of McClure RR1, whom she married Aug. 13, 2000, survives. Also surviving are: children, Christopher L. Dippery and Trisha R. Dippery, both of Lewistown; brothers, Gregg L. Specht, Mifflintown, Gary L. Specht Jr., McClure, and Derek L. Wilt, Lewistown; and maternal grandmother, Jean E. Reinhart, Lewistown. She was a homemaker. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with the Rev. John A. Walters officiating. There will be no viewing, however, family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Dippery Children Trust Fund, c/o M & T Bank, PO Box 127, Beaver Springs, PA 17812.
