STRODES MILLS - Thelma M. "Sis" Specht, 69, of 7981 U.S. Highway 522S Strodes Mills, McVeytown, died at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Valley View Haven, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville. Born Nov. 9, 1931 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Irene I. (Knepp) Lukens. Her husband, George W. Specht, preceded her in death on June 12, 1989. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Donald E. (Brenda) Swartz, 50 Red Oak Drive, McVeytown and Mrs. Dean (Deborah) Dressler, RR1 Box 959, Port Royal, and a granddaughter whom she helped raise, Tina M. (Swartz) Crosson, Round House Road, Lewistown; sisters and brother, Mrs. Melvin E. (Donna) McCartle and Robert R. Lukens, both of Lewistown, Phyllis Bailets, Goss Terrace, Lewistown and Renna M. Lukens, 96 Liberty Lane, Reedsville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, George B. Lukens. She was employed for 34 years at the Arrow Shirt Factory, and then worked at Tiempo for several years. She was a member of the Strodes Mills Baptist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ronald Nipple and the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Haven, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.
REEDSVILLE - Michael H. Speicher, 76, of 105 Spruce Lane, Reedsville, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, at his residence. Born May 25, 1924, in Brown Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Michael H. and Mattie (Yoder) Speicher. His wife, Veronica (Zook) Speicher, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Eli (Mattie) Hostetler, Mrs. Michael (Barbara) Hostetler and Mrs. Jonas (Frannie) Hostetler, all of Milroy, Mrs. Sam (Rhoda) Hostetler, Michael A. Speicher, Eli Speicher, Mrs. Jacob (Lydia) Hostetler, and Emma Speicher, all of Reedsville; and 27 grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by one son, one brother, one sister, and one stepsister. He was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of the Old Order Amish. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Green Lane Cemetery, Reedsville. BELLEVILLE - Annie L. Spicher, 84, of 9 Meadow Side Lane, Belleville, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center. Born on Feb. 19, 1917, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Abe S. and Salome (Zook) Yoder Sr. Her husband, Jesse D. Spicher, preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1999. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Aquilla (Naomi) Yoder, Belleville, Mrs. Noah (Anna Mae) Yoder, Pratts, VA, Mrs. Joe I. (Susan) Peachey, Cuthbert, GA, Mrs. Daniel (Mary Etta) Miller, Harrison, AR, Mrs. Everett (Rhoda) Hostetler, Sarasota, FL, Abe L. Spicher, Middlebury, IN, David J. Spicher, Belleville, Jesse Lee Spicher, Belleville, Mrs. Jesse (Lois) Kauffman, Belleville, and Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Kauffman, Reedsville; brothers and sisters, Abe S. Yoder Jr., Belleville, Stephen K. Yoder, Quarryville, Kore E. Yoder, Belleville, Mrs. Fronie Yoder, Belleville, Mrs. Alvin (Mary A.) Peachey, Reedsville, Noah A. Yoder, Lewisburg, and Benjamin J. Yoder, Millersburg; 43 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John Paul Spicher, on Aug. 2, 1994, four brothers, Samuel A. Yoder, John Z. Yoder, Moses A. Yoder and David S. Yoder, a sister, Rachel A. Spicher, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A homemaker, she was a member of the Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, Green Lane, Belleville, with Bishop David J. Peachey and ministers David J. Peachey and E. David Byler officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville is handling arrangements.
BELLEVILLE - Arlin David Spicher, 9 hours old, of 69 Mountain House Road, Belleville, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 23, 2001, in Belleville, he was the son of Marlin J. and Mary Ann (Esh) Spicher of 69 Mountain House Road, Belleville. He is survived by paternal grandparents, David J. and Arlene Spicher of Belleville; maternal grandparents, Lizzie and Christ F. Esh Jr., Honey Grove; paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Jesse (Annie) Spicher, Belleville; and maternal great-grandfather, Christ F. Esh Sr., Quarryville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, Belleville, with Deacon Jesse L. Spicher and Bishop David J. Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service today at the church. The Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, is in charge of arrangements.
MCVEYTOWN - Helen M. Spickler, 80, of John Street, extended, McVeytown, died at 10:42 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born June 3, 1921, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Walter O. and Ida M. (Yetter) Jones. Her husband, Walter E. Spickler, whom she married March 6, 1941, died Aug. 15, 2000. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Dyson (Linda) Fisher, Mrs. James (Brenda) Swigart, Ronald O. Spickler, all of McVeytown, Walter Sheldon Spickler, Lewistown, and Mrs. James (Darlene) Wagner, Burnham; a brother, Melvin G. Jones, Texas; 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, P. Keith Spickler in 1997; six brothers and sisters, Betty Hale, Marie Clemens, Raymond Jones, Marietta Wagner, Kenneth D. Jones, and Barbara Leach. She was a homemaker. Early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown, the William Penn Nursing Home, Lewistown, and in the cafeteria of Rothrock High School, McVeytown. She was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren and a former Girl Scout leader in McVeytown. She enjoyed reading. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, 6712 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, with the Rev. Jerry Lee Miller officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Family will receive friends noon until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. MCVEYTOWN - Lee R. Spickler, 66, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, formerly of McVeytown, died at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Locust Grove. Born March 24, 1935, in Oliver Township, he was the son of the late William P. and J. Claire (Shehan) Spickler. Surviving are: brothers and sisters, Harry E. Spickler Sr., Belleville, Mrs. Stephen (Frances) Yoder, Lebanon, Grace A. Hoffman, McClure, Paul L. Spickler, Lewistown; aunt, Genevieve Truscott, Lewistown; and 24 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. He was formerly employed at Overhead Door Corporation, Lewistown, for 15 years, and later worked as a truck driver for Beavertown Block Company. He was a member of the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Wise officiating. Interment will be in Spring Run Cemetery, McVeytown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Marguerite G. Spigelmyer, 100, a resident of Malta Home and formerly of 1702 US Highway 22/322, Lewistown, died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the nursing home, Granville. Born June 30, 1901, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late William and Nannie (Luck) Gruver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Spigelmyer, on Feb. 18, 1981. Surviving are: two sons, Clarence W. Spigelmyer of Las Vegas, NV and Kenneth E. Spigelmyer, 10 High St., Lewistown; a sister, Helen Henry, Kish Apartments, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Irene Spigelmyer and Cartes Hopple Stine, a granddaughter, Connie Hopple Stine, and two sisters, Elizabeth Styindger and Nannie Dill. She was a homemaker. Her funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Major Herbert Hamilton officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, where a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Friends may call 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. MCCLURE - Marvin J. Spigelmyer, 84, of McClure died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflintown RR1. Born Aug. 16, 1916, in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Jasper and Della (Gueswite) Spigelmyer. His wife, Ruth (Hassinger) Berger, whom he married Nov. 17, 1958, survives. His first wife, Goldie Louella (Baker) Spigelmyer, whom he married in 1935, died in 1957. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Constance "Connie") Timblin, McClure RR2; a brother, Cloyd Spigelmyer, Etters; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivan Hurlbert and a brother, Raymond Spigelmyer. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Earlier in life, he worked for the former American Viscose. He and his brother-in-law, Wilson Dodd, owned and operated the former Baker Store Co. from 1936 until he sold his share to Joseph Dodd in the late 1970's. He sold church furniture for Endicott Church Furniture Co., Ohio and for Winebarger Church Furniture, Lynchburg, Va. from 1959 until 1979. He also owned and operated the McClure Water Co. during the 1950's. He served on the McClure Cemetery Board from 1950's until 1999. He was known for his knowledge of the stock market and investments. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure, where he served on the church council, building committee and as a Sunday school teacher. He was a also a member of F & AM Masonic 619, Middleburg, and the Harrisburg Consistory, where he received his 25 year pin in 1992. He loved golfing and working. Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the McClure Chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, North Brown Street, McClure, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. and a Masonic service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Building Fund of Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure, PA 17841.
