LEWISTOWN - Naomi G. Stevens, 89, of 120 E. Fleming Ave., Lewistown, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born July 3, 1912, in Goshen, VA, she was the daughter of the late Edward R. and Lola (Weaver) Glendye. Her husband, Robert A. Stevens, died March 26, 1985. She is survived by sisters, Mrs. Blair (Valerie) Calhoun, 620 S. Main St., Lewistown and Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Emerson, 622 S. Main St., Lewistown. She had been employed at the American Viscose and Red's Diner. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. William J. Danis officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no viewing.
CASSVILLE - Orpha C . Stever, 91, formerly of HCR 02, Cassville, died at 10:05 a. m., Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Valley View Haven Nursing Home, Belleville, where she had resided for the past 4 1/2 years. Born Oct. 23, 1909. in Union Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Elsie J. (Pheasant) Mansberger. Her husband Fred M. Stever, whom she married Feb. 22, 1934, died Dec. 27, 1969. Surviving are: children, John M. Stever, Springfield, Mo., Fred M. Stever, Cassville, H. Ray Stever, Dillsburg and Sarah Jane Marks, Mifflintown RR1; a sister, Cora David, Cassville; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel P. Mansberger and a sister, Anna McHenry. She was a homemaker and was employed at the former Holiday Inn, Huntingdon, at one time, and during her later years she worked as a caregiver for the elderly. She was a member of Harmony Church of God, Calvin RR, where she served as church pianist for many years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville. Interment will be in Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery, Calvin RR. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from l0 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
SANFORD, Fla. - James M. Stewart, 65, of North Sunland Drive, Sanford, Fla., died Sunday, March 25, 2001. He was born in Spruce Hill. His wife, Marlene Stewart, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Christine J. Stewart, Sanford, Fla.; brothers and sisters, Harry Stewart, Tamaqua, John Stewart, Mifflintown, and Janie Wilson, Duncannon. He was a sergeant in the United States Air Force for 23 years and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was Protestant by faith. Brisson Funeral Home, Sanford, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
WRIGHTSTOWN, NJ - Dorothy V. Stine, 79, of Wrightstown, NJ, died at 4:55 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at her daughter's residence in Franklinville, NJ. Born Aug. 23, 1922, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late James and Marian (Stuck) Arnold. Her husband, E. Leroy Stine, died in 1976. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy) Beaver, Wrightstown, NJ, Mrs. Lloyd (Helen) Abagnale, Franklinville, NJ and Gerald L. Stine, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Violer Bair, Ruth Hillard, James Arnold and Robert Arnold, all of Lewistown and Jean Boreman, McClure; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam "Lois" Cox and one grandson. She retired from Kleiner Metal Specialties in New Jersey. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Vira. Her service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Larry Lutz officiating. Interment will be in the Maitland Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - John W. Stine, 95, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of McVeytown and South Wayne Street, Lewistown, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Aug. 15, 1905, in McVeytown, he was the son of the late Samuel R. and Mary (French) Stine. His wife, Nellie A. (Burdge) Stine, died Aug. 29, 1977. Surviving are: sons, Walter R. Stine, McVeytown, James O. Stine, Lewistown, and Leonard E. Stine, Elizabethtown; stepson, Charles K. Long, Lancaster; a sister, Mary E. Roddy, Lewistown; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, John E. Stine and Richard Stine; two brothers and four sisters. Early in life, he was owner-operator of the Federal Service Station, McVeytown. He later worked at the American Viscose Corporation, and as an auto mechanic at the Cupp Motor Company, Lewistown. He was Protestant by faith. He was a member of the Brooklyn Fire Company and a former member of the McVeytown Fire Company. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
HONEY GROVE - Stephen C. Stolzer, 58, of Honey Grove RR1, died at 11:14 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Feb. 7, 1943, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Kisner) Stolzer. His wife, Nancy (Westfall) Stolzer, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Scott R. Stolzer, Honey Grove RR1; a sister, Susan Priest, New Castle; and one granddaughter. He was a United States Navy veteran. He was employed as a truck driver for Ramsey's Trucking, Mifflintown. Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. The Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Lewis E. "The Bug Man" Stoner Jr., 83, of 2 Barchus Court, Lewistown, died at 4:08 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born July 16, 1917, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Lewis E. Sr. and Alda (Hackett) Stoner. His wife, Erma Jane (Weiand) Stoner, died in 1967. Surviving are: children, Lewis E. Stoner III, East Walnut Street, Lewistown, William L. Stoner, Alexander Lane, Burnham, Ronald R. Stoner, McVeytown RR2, Barry Wayne Stoner, Ridgecrest, Calif., Michael Alan Stoner, Ferguson Valley, Lewistown, and Robert E. Stoner, 2 Barchus Court, Lewistown; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers and one sister. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was an exterminator for 28 years for JC Ehrlich and later owned and operated Stoner's Exterminating, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lewistown; the BPOE Lewistown Lodge 663; and a life member of the Fame and the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Companies. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Darvin Donahey officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
MIFFLINTOWN - Virginia S. Stoner, 84, of Mifflintown RR4, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at her home. Born Nov. 6, 1916, in Mifflintown, she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Freda (Jacobs) Horning. Her husband, John E. Stoner, died April 1, 1997. Surviving are: sons, Lee A. Stoner, Lewistown and John E. Stoner Jr., Wormleysburg; brothers and sisters, Walter L. Horning, Port Royal RR2, Richard A. Horning, Lewistown RR4, Donald R. Horning, Colorado Springs, Colo., Robert L. Horning and Shirley Bull, both of Lewistown and Theda Riden, Monkton, Md.; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Walter H. Stoner Sr.; three sisters, Helen E. Horning, Ethel "Tootie" Hodge, and Bette Stewart; and one great-grandson, Joseph Lee Stoner. She was a homemaker Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Guss Funeral Home, with the Rev. Anna Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. The family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: Juniata County Meals on Wheels, 9 Cross St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
