PORT ROYAL - Michael David Stong, 30, of 409 Main St., Port Royal, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 5, 1971, in Lewistown, he was the son of Janetta Stong Swartz of 409 Main St., Port Royal and stepfather, Glenn M. Swartz, East Waterford RR1. He was raised with the following cousins, Phillip and James Kelley, Laura and Craig Rowles and other loving family members and friends. He is survived by two stepbrothers, Anthony Swartz, Georgia and Todd Swartz, East Waterford RR1. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Miles and Ruth Stong and by a great-aunt, Beulah Stong. He attended Juniata High School and Skills of Central PA, Mifflintown. He was a member of the Dry Run Church of the Brethren and attended the Sunshine Class of the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown RR4. He was an avid Star Trek fan. His service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Roy Fahnestock officiating. MCALISTERVILLE - Virginia M. Stong, 79, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at her home. Born Aug. 10, 1922, in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Annie Bilger. Her husband, Benjamin F. Stong, whom she married Feb. 21, 1940, died April 26, 1998. Surviving are: children, Ronald B. Stong of Mifflintown RR3, William H. Stong of Honey Grove RR1, Robert E. Stong of McAlisterville RR1 and Mrs. Allen (Mary Ann) Kantz of Richfield; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a half-sister, Edna Taylor. She attended Juniata County Schools. She was a farm wife, helping her husband on several farms. She was also employed as a seamstress for L. Shellenberger and Sons Shirt Factory until 1963 when she and her husband purchased Stong's Greenhouse, which they owned and operated until 1984. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville and a member of the McAlisterville Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed growing and arranging flowers and sewing. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville, with the Rev. James Park Bricker and Vicar David E. Pennebaker officiating. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the McAlisterville Senior Citizens Center, General Delivery, McAlisterville, PA 17049. The Ronald C. MCALISTERVILLE - Ethan Mark Strauser, infant son of Joseph M. and Nichol L. (Benner) Strauser of McAlisterville, was stillborn at 9:08 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. He weighed 1 pound 10 ounces and was 13 inches long. Also surviving are: a sister, Emma Lynn Strauser, at home; maternal grandparents, Ricky A. and Gloria D. Benner of Maze; paternal grandparents, Philip M. Jr. and Linda K. Strauser of Richfield; maternal great-grandparents, James and Barbara (Lindsey) Benner of Maze and Raymond and Gloria Swartz of Richfield; paternal great-grandparents, Guy and Daisy Pyle of Millerstown and Philip M. Strauser Sr. of Oriental; and great-great-grandfather, Joseph Chambers of the Nipple Convalescent Home, Thompsontown RR1. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Mabel C. Strawser, 95, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare William Penn, Lewistown. Born Aug. 27, 1906, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Mary (Stuck) Shelley. Her husband, Clair A. Shelley, whom she married on March 5, 1927, died Aug. 7, 1969. Surviving are: sons, Wilbur E. Strawser, Ronald D. Strawser and Dale H. Strawser, all of McAlisterville; sisters, Keturah Brubaker and Geraldine Leach, of Mifflintown, Ruth Alexander, Brookline Manor, Mifflintown, Anne Long, Locust Grove Retirement Center, Mifflin, and Lulu Daughenbaugh, Zephyr Hills, FL; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Palmer C. Strawser and sisters, Hazel Spece, Sara Bener and Esther Moore. She attended Cocolamus Grammar School. She was a homemaker all her married life. She enjoyed baking, quilting and gardening, and adored her family. She was the oldest member of the Richfield United Church of Christ. Her service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville, with the Rev. George Henry officiating. Interment will follow in Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Richfield United Church of Christ, Richfield, PA 17096.
LEWISTOWN - Richard K. Stringfellow Sr., 72, of Lawler Place, Lewistown, died at 12:28 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center. Born March 10, 1928, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Edward S. and Esther (Freed) Stringfellow. His wife, Connie L. (Hagan) Stringfellow, whom he married March 17, 1990, survives. Also surviving are: children, Barbara Jean Stringfellow, Mrs. William (Glenda) Silks, Richard K. Stringfellow Jr., Mary Jane Kohler, Joann Deavor, and Mildred L. Hoyer, all of Lewistown; a stepson, Richard C. Smith, McVeytown; sister and brother, Evelyn Dippery of Burnham and Glenn Stringfellow of Lewistown; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Stringfellow and Leonard Stringfellow; five half-sisters and two half-brothers. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed in the rolling steel department of Overhead Door Inc., Lewistown, retiring in 1991 with 11 years of service. He was a life member of the Yeagertown Fire Co. and the Junction Fire Co. He loved to cook. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown. Family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. LEWISBURG - Mae Marie "Grandma Mae" Stroup, 90, formerly of Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, died at 1:10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at RiverWoods Nursing Center, Lewisburg, where she had resided since July of 2000. Born July 27, 1910, in Perry County, she was a daughter of the late David and Jane (Knouse) Peters. Her husband, N. Roy Stroup, whom she married April 16, 1927, died Feb. 25, 1982. She was educated at Shaffer's Grammar schoolhouse, Snyder County. Surviving are: children, Earl E. Stroup, Richfield RR1 and Mrs. Glen J. (Erma J.) Emery, Liverpool RR1; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Russell R. Stroup on Jan. 24, 2000; a daughter, Nancy F. Forry on Dec. 17, 1993; one grandson, Timothy Earl Stroup on Aug. 11, 1983; and two brothers, John and George Peters. She was a homemaker. She attended St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee and solving Search-A-Word puzzles. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Raymond D. Neitz officiating. Interment will be in St. Thomas United Methodist Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. BELLEVILLE - Edna A. Stuck, 91, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Valley View Haven. Born July 31, 1909, in Siglerville, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Margaret (Shank) Treaster. Her husband Clyde W. Stuck died April 22, 1958. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Richard (Jeanne) Wagner, Cullowhee, NC, James N. Stuck, Brookville, Fla., Mrs. Randall (Margaret) Hassinger and Mrs. Carl (Judy) Lex, both of Mechanicsburg, and Ronald E. Stuck, Carlisle; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis M. Stuck in 1941; five brothers, Merle, Charles, Arthur, Ray and Landis Treaster; and a sister, Mildred Treaster. She was a homemaker and had worked for Abbotts Dairy and Fairmont Dairy in Belleville. She was a member of the Reedsville United Methodist Church, Reedsville and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1 at Valley View Haven Chapel, Belleville, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender and the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Sunday until the time of the service at Valley View Haven. BELLEVILLE - Glen P. Stuck, 65, of 4012 East Main Street, Belleville, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 29, 1936, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Rush G. and Anna Mildred (Crownover) Stuck. His wife, Betty M. (Wagner) Stuck, whom he married Nov. 16, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: children, Douglas L. Stuck, Belleville, David B. Stuck, Pleasant Gap, Melanie S. Beckenbaugh, Woodbridge, VA, Darryl G. Stuck, Belleville, and Dell W. Stuck, Belleville; brothers and sisters, Thelma S. Byler, Belleville, Rush G. Stuck, Jr., Belleville, Dean G. Stuck, Belleville, and Kenn G. Stuck, Reedsville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a Drywaller. He was the past Governor and former member of Lewistown Moose Lodge, former member of the Belleville Fire Company and the Big Valley Ambulance Club, and assistant Scout Master of Boy Scouts Troop 3, Belleville. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Harold Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Belleville.
