RICHFIELD - Orvis Daniel "Jr." Crossgrove, 58, of Richfield RR2, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his residence. Born Jan. 14, 1942, in Beavertown RR1, he was the son of the late Orvis Daniel Sr. and Mary G. (Heeter) Crossgrove. His wife, Alice D. (Sheaffer) Grossgrove, whom he married Feb. 27, 1988, survives. Also surviving are: children, Daniel O. Crossgrove and Mrs. Richard M. (Donna L.) Hornberger, both of Mifflinburg and Shawn P. Crossgrove, Scranton; stepchildren, George W. Freed, Mrs. Delbert (Brenda E.) Wileman and Mrs. William (Bonnie M.) Brown, all of Lewistown, Ronald A. Freed, Beavertown, Lonnie L. Freed, Richfield RR2 and Mrs. Franklin A. (Connie A.) Benfer, Beaver Springs RR1; brothers and sisters, Fern E. Crossgrove, Mifflinburg RR1, Roland M. Crossgrove, Middleburg RR1, Cora E. Weller, Mifflinburg RR2, Mrs. Gerald (Carrie G.) Hause, Lewisburg RR3 and Mrs. Ronald W. (Mary "Jane") Koonsman Sr., Hartleton; five grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was schooled in the Mifflinburg area schools. He was employed in various excavating jobs, including excavator for 13 years for Bruce H. Garrison Inc., Beavertown, retiring July 15, 2000. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Chapel, HCR 72, Mount Pleasant Mills. He enjoyed football, his pets, fishing and camping. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Valley Chapel, Route 35 East, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Pastor Enos M. Shelley officiating. Interment will be in the Penns Creek Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: SUN Home Health Hospice, 61 Duke St., Northumberland, PA 17857. The George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., Mount Pleasant Mills, is in charge of arrangements.
REEDSVILLE - Margaret P. Crumling, 96, of 941 Honey Creek Road, Reedsville, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at her residence. Born Feb. 15, 1904, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret (McCartle) Patterson. Her husband, Edwin F. Crumling, died April 1985. Surviving are: children, Peggy C. Bierach, New Jersey, Edwin L. Crumling, Reedsville, and Charles A. Crumling, Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Josephine Holt, Burnham, and Ruth Kanour, Baltimore, Md. She was a 1922 graduate of Burnham High School and a 1926 graduate of Dickinson College, where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She also attended Penn State University. Earlier in life, she was a teacher for 10 years at Lewistown Junior High School and then a substitute teacher at Lewistown High School. She was Methodist by faith. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Marshall Deckard officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mifflin County Library, 123 N. Wayne St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.
BURNHAM - Gwendolyn J. Dalby, 53, of 224 S. Beech St., Burnham, died at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 12, 1947, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Helen E. (Kyle) Wolfgang of 223 S. Walnut St., Burnham and the late Chester M. Wolfgang. Also surviving are: three sons, William A. Dalby II, 223 S. Walnut St., Burnham, Brian C. Dalby and Scott M. Dalby, both of 224 S. Beech St., Burnham. Early in life she worked for Lewistown Electric and then for Empire Kosher Poultry for 17 years. She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the adult choir. She was 1965 graduate of Chief Logan High School. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry Lutz and the Rev. James Slapinski officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, 203 N. Walnut St., Burnham, PA 17009.
ZEPHYRHILLIS, FL - Paul E. "Pete" Daughenbaugh, 78, of Zephyrhillis, FL, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 5:41 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in the East Pasco Hills Medical Center, Zephyrhillis, FL. Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Howard, he was a son of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Sullenberger) Daughenbaugh. His wife, Lulu (Shelley) Daughenbaugh, whom he married in 1940, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Nila Geiger, Fayetteville, GA and Gloria Ammerman, Townsend, GA; brother and sisters, Melvin Daughenbaugh, Port Royal, Mary Cox and Eileen Shipe, both of Thompsontown; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in Japan. He was a truck driver, retiring in 1979 after driving for 30 years for PEI Trucking, Akron, Ohio. He had previously driven for Sullivan Lines. He was a member of Niemond's Independent Church, Richfield RR1. He was also a member of AMVETS Post 122, Thompsontown and the Tennis Lodge 371 F&AM, Thompsontown. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Pastor J. Arthur Mott officiating. Interment will be in Niemond's Cemetery, Richfield RR1. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Ruby Irene Davis, 82, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of Burgard Apartments, Lewistown, died at 5:37 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born June 12, 1918 in Bland County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Albert T. and Laura (Millirons) Meadows. Her husband Norman H. Davis preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Ralph (Irene) Roope, Pulaski, Va., Mrs. David (Faye) Webb, 400 Yale St., Lewistown, Mrs. Frank (Eunice) Bartlett, Galay, Va., brothers and sisters; Miller C. Meadows and Juanita Melton, both of Dublin, Va., and Audrey Nuckolls, Pulaski, Va., nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Kyle Meadows. She was a homemaker. She was a life member of Goshen Methodist Church, Dublin, Va. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Goshen Cemetery, Bland County, Dublin, Va. There will be no public viewing. LEBANON - Esther A. Dealy, 84, of 111 Brookside Apartments, Lebanon and formerly of Belleville, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Lebanon's Good Samaritan Hospital. Born June 1, 1915, in Rheems, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Groff) Reider. Her first husband, George W. Kloepfer, and her second husband, Jack Dealy, preceded her in death. Surviving are: sons, George K. Mohler, Belleville and Robert Kloepfer, Strasburg; a daughter, Nancy McGarrity, Osceola; a sister, Almeda Baker, Lebanon; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, three sisters and one grandson preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Rohland Funeral Home, Lebanon is handling the funeral arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Hazel G. Dean, 89, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of Kish Apartments, South Main Street, Lewistown, died at 1:32 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 at Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 24, 1910 in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late George and Della (Stine) Wilson. Her husband Charles A. Dean preceded her in death in 1972. Surviving are: children; Betty Chapman, Amherst, Ohio, Charles A. Dean Jr., Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown, George W. Dean, Fairview, Lewistown and Larry E. Dean, West Fifth Street, Lewistown; a sister, Madaline Hook, Burnham; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Ralph Dean, and a granddaughter, Teresa Simpson, and by two brothers and one sister. Early in life she was employed by American Viscose, and later worked at the Arrow Division of Cluett-Peabody and Company for 13 years. She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown. She was a member of the Brooklyn Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose and the Granville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dr. Gregory K. Tyree officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangel Baptist Church, 375 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MIFFLIN - Stella M. DeArment, 92, a resident of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, and formerly of South Main Street, Lewistown, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Locust Grove. Born April 28, 1908, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late James and Anna (Whistler) Lofflin. Her husband, Kenneth K. DeArment, died in 1958. Surviving are: sister, Ruth O'Brien of Parkview, Burnham; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Kenneth K. DeArment Jr., Donald C. DeArment and Harold E. DeArment; two brothers and three sisters. She was employed at Diehl's Florist for 15 years. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, with the Rev. Clifford Miller officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 9 S. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
