BELLEVILLE - Russel R. Walters, 82, of 253 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born July 26, 1918, in Middleburg, he was the son of the late Ralph and Verna (Rowe) Walters. His wife, Betty (Steininger) Walters, whom he married in 1940, survives. He is also survived by sons, R. Rodney Walters, New York and Marvin Walters, Lansdale; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He worked at Mifflin County Savings bank for 47 years, where he was President, CEO and Chairman of the Board. He was also Mifflin County Veteran's Officer for two years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, served as chairman of the finance committee and was on the administrative board of the church. He was also a member and past president of the Lewistown Kiwanis; director of AAA; and served on the Hospital Authority & Parking Authority. He was a recipient and a member of the Brotherhood Award of Round Table of Christians and Jews; member of the United Fund, where he served as chairman; member of Ancient Scottish Rite since 1965; member of the Lewistown Lodge 203 F&AM; and a member of the Lewistown Royal Arch Chapter 186. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. REEDSVILLE - Carl R. Waltz, 84, of Reedsville, formerly of State College, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born March 27, 1917, in State College, he was a son of the late Alfred W. and Mary Verna (Hoy) Waltz. His wife, Nancy L. (Snell) Waltz, whom he married April 30, 1983, survives. Also surviving are: children, Patricia Scott, Linda Way, Carl R. Waltz Jr., Edward B. Waltz and Dennis F. Waltz, all of State College; sisters and brothers, Lois Stoner, Oklahoma, Betty Hendrickson, North Carolina, Helen Auman, Lock Haven, Louise Yearick and Charles Waltz, both of New Jersey, Robert Waltz, Delaware, Donald Waltz, Alexandria and Jack Waltz, State College; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He graduated from State College High School. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was owner of the former Waltz Sporting Goods Store in State College. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lewistown. He enjoyed big game hunting. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with the Rev. Gerald Krum officiating. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Friends may call 9 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. HUNTINGDON - Phyllis H. Watson, 80, of RD4 Box 329, Huntingdon, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at her home. Her husband, John Watson, preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, Joanne Young, Belleville, George D. Watson, Huntingdon, Donald C. Watson, Hesston, and John E. Watson, York Springs; a sister, Jane I. Reihart, Hesston; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a machine operator at Owens Corning and a Methodist by faith. No services are scheduled. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
YEAGERTOWN - Robert E. Watson, 73, of 33 North Mann Ave., Yeagertown, died at 11:56 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1927, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Elliot) Watson. His wife, Shirley A. (Shatzer) Watson, whom he married Nov. 12, 1950, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Bruce (Vicki) Burlew, Lewistown, Mrs. James (Lesa) Griffin, Monroeville, NJ and Richard Watson, Yeagertown; a brother, James Watson, Reedsville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Watson. He was employed as a foreman at Avtex Fibers/Lewistown Specialty Yarns for 25 years, retiring in 1991 and as a clerk at Burnham Hardware, from 1991 to the present. He was a member of the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association and Camp Rayona. He was also active in various church offices and committees. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, Mann Avenue, Yeagertown, PA 17099 or to the American Lung Association of Central PA, 205 E. Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801. A public memorial service will be held at the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, which will be announced at a later date. Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Lois O. Mauery Watt, 79, of 130 Stine Drive, Lewistown, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Harrisburg Hospital. Born April 19, 1922, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Lewis C. and Clara E. (Richard) Edmiston. Her first husband, Paul E. Mauery, died May 13, 1974 and her second husband, Edward Watt, died Oct. 31, 1979. She is survived by children, Paul E. Mauery Jr., Mrs. E. Stephen (Judith) Bryant, and Scott A. Mauery, all of Lewistown, and Mrs. Larry (Jacqueline) Warholak, Virginia Beach, Va.; stepchildren, Lynn E. Watt, Thomas E. Watt, and William A. Watt, all of Bethlehem; sisters and brother, Mabel R. Edmiston, Kish Apartments, Lewistown, Wilbur Edmiston, Rehrersburg, and Mildred P. Hartley, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. She was a self-employed beautician and owned the Lois Watt Beauty Salon, Lewistown for 41 years. She was a member of the Maitland Church of the Brethren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles M. Eldredge officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. MCALISTERVILLE - Miriam I. Watts, 76, of McAlisterville, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at her home. Born Oct. 17, 1924, in Richfield, she was the daughter of the late Ira S. and Eva M. (Graybill) Arbogast. Her husband, Lloyd C. Watts, whom she married June 2, 1945, survives. She is also survived by children, Edward Watts, Harry L. Watts and Joy R. Watts, all of McAlisterville; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters, North Arbogast, Russell Arbogast, William Arbogast, Gladys Shirk, Mildred Hann, and Ruth Bidamin. She was a 1942 graduate of Freeburg High School. She was a homemaker most of her life and also worked at Stong's Greenhouse from 1970-1985 and at the Richfield Shirt Factory from 1942-1948. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, painting, making crafts and making sock monkeys. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, Cocolamus, with the Rev. Edward Watts and the Rev. Stephen A. Kovac officiating. Interment will be in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Richfield United Methodist Church, PO Box 206, Richfield, Pa 17086.
MCCLURE - Luvada E. Weader, 90, of McClure, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown. Born May 10, 1911, in McClure, she was a daughter of the late Hurley P. and Maggie E. (Steninger) Snook. June 30, 1935, Her husband, Elder E. Weader, whom she married June 30, 1935, died Nov. 16, 2000. Surviving are: a son, Edwin L. Weader, McClure; a brother, Orrie E. "Bud" Snook, Beaver Springs RR1; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon D. Weader on March 4, 1957; a sister, Edna C. Dippery; and two brothers, Russell H. Snook and Charles W. "Short" Snook. She worked at the former American Viscose Corporation from 1928-1940. She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure, where she taught in the youth department of the Sunday school for many years and participated in the Women's Guild and the Pollyanna Class. She was very active in the McClure Volunteer Fire Company auxiliary, and was instrumental in organizing the pot-pie meals during the yearly carnival. She enjoyed gardening, rug making, embroidery, canning and sewing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Mt. Bethel UCC Church, McClure, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church, where the family will be present at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the memorial fund of Mt. GETTYSBURG - Velma L. Weaver, 65, of 142 N. Stratton St., Gettysburg, died at 4:36 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2001, at York Hospital. Born March 18, 1936, in Snyder County, she was the daughter of Lottie Mae (Willow) Swartz of 206 N. Stratton St., Gettysburg and the late Norman M. Swartz. Her husband, Earl L. Weaver, who she married in 1953, survives. Also surviving are: a brother, Norman M. Swartz of Emmitsburg, MD; and two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Darlene) J. Koontz of Emmitsburg, MD, and Mrs. Roger (Rita) Oswald of Bonneville. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, of Gettysburg, and early in her life, she worked at the Lewistown Hospital for eight years. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Marshall Deckard officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Interment will be at St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.
