He is a son of the late Louis Webster and Nannie Ellen Baindie Carper. His wife, Margaret Irene Seiler Carper, Greeneville, survives.
Also surviving are: daughters, Maurine Sexton, Maryville, Tenn., Nannie Carper, Baton Rouge, La.; three stepchildren, Florence Duvall, Mount Union, Bobbie Carson, Orlando, Fla., Verna Mae Ruby, Youngstown, Ohio; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sue Morrison, and a brother, Russell Carper.
He attended Tusculum College, where he played football. He graduated from Maryville College. He often lectured at colleges and churches over the years.
He was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Radford and Salem, Va., school systems for many years.
He and his wife owned and operated the Carper Ceramic Shop for more than 52 years in both Virginia and Tennessee.
He was a member of the Brown Springs Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Greeneville Moose Lodge No. 692 for 46 years.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Kiser Funeral Chapel, Greeneville, with the Rev. Richard Long officiating. Interment will be in GreeneLawn Mausoleum.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 18.
Dennis W. Carson
Born Aug. 16, 1953, in Lewistown, he was a son of Lester E. and H. Joann (Ramsey) Carson of Reedsville. His wife of 23 years, Marion C. (Caldwell) Carson, survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Jeremy A. and Jonathan K. Carson, both at home; sisters, Mrs. Joe (Rhonda N.) Davis, Lewistown, and Mrs. Bob (Christy A.) Spade, Jacksonville, N.C.; a stepson, Lt. Burr M. Vogel, Bloomington, Ind.; and two step-grandchildren.
He was a 1971 graduate of Penn Highlands High School and a 1975 graduate of Thiel College, Greenville, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry.
He was employed over the past 25 years at PPG Industries in Springdale, Allison Park and General Office in Pittsburgh. Most recently he held a global position as Director of Technology-General Industrial.
Early in life, he was active in Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball and the Boy Scouts, in which he received the Order of Arrow and the God and Country award. An avid white-water kayaker, he also enjoyed many outdoor activities including mountain biking, backpacking, skiing, archery, hunting and fishing.
He was a past president of both the Tri-City Soccer Association and the Three Rivers Paddling Club. He was a soccer referee for the PA West Soccer Association and the Tri-City Soccer Association, having also served as a youth soccer coach.
There will be no service.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Ross G. Walker Funeral Home Ltd., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Interment will be private.

Ruth M. Carstetter
Born April 4, 1913, in Goshen, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Wilson P. and Bertha (Seibrecht) Minton. Her husband, Fred R. Carstetter, died May 8, 1995.
Surviving are: children, David W. Carstetter, Jacksonville, Fla. and Romaine Carstetter, Reedsville; a sister, Mary Dugan, Apopka, Fla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
She graduated from Slippery Rock University.
She was a elementary school teacher in the Mifflin County School District for 30 years, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of the White Memorial United Church of Christ, Milroy for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Joy Class.
Graveside services will be held in June at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania was in charge of arrangements.
Kerry Kent Carter Sr.
Born March 24, 1952, in Mifflin County, he was a son of Helen and Arthur Ray Carter Jr. of McClure RR1. His wife, Pam (Isenberg) Carter, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Stacy Jo Carter, at home; four sons, Kerry Kent Carter Jr., Burlington, NC, Danny Todd Carter, Julian, NC and Shawn Dale Carter and Marc Allen Carter, both at home; two sisters, Trudy Harrigan, Beaver Creek, Ohio and Deana Marie Carter, McClure; three brothers, Arthur R. Carter III, Texas, Charles A. Carter, Baltimore, Md. and Steve Hite, Lewistown; and four grandchildren.
He was a supervisor at Commercial Metals, Burlington, NC.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, with Christian Bible Fellowship Pastor Bruce Readling and Assistant Pastor Paul Baker officiating. Interment will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mabel J. Barnes Casner
Born June 11, 1927, in Ickesburg, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Hester E. (Reisinger) Barnes. Her husband, H. Lee Casner, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Harold R. Casner, Ronald L. Casner, Betty J. Thomas, all of Loysville, and Sandra K. Schumacher, Shermans Dale; brothers and sisters, John R. Barnes, Millerstown, Larry Barnes, Newport, Betty Wingert, Liverpool, Thelma Waller and Ethel Weibley, both of Loysville; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Ganger; two brothers, Lester Barnes and Earl Barnes; and a granddaughter, Katie Jane Thomas.
She was a retired clerk from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Harrisburg.
She was a member of the Sandy Hill United Church of Christ, Loysville RR1, and was a volunteer with several organizations.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. John S. Kipp officiating. Interment will be in the Blain Cemetery, Blain RR1.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.

Dr. William E. Chamberlain
Born April 10, 1921, in Altoona, he was a son of the late Edward L. and Carrie (Kline) Chamberlain. His wife, Jane (Knott) Chamberlain, whom he married in 1944, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Carole Chamberlain, Texas, Mrs. William (Michele) Frear, Sinking Springs, Mrs. Artie (Mary Beth) Brito, South Carolina, Mrs. Harry (Wanda) Gardner Jr., Delaware, and William M. Chamberlain, Shippensburg; a half-brother, Fred Johnson, Lewistown; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three half-brothers and one half-sister.
He was a 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School, a 1948 graduate of Randolph Macon College, Ashland, Va., and a 1952 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dentistry School in Philadelphia.
He served from 1940-1945 in the U. S. Army during World War II and as a colonel in the U. S. Army Reserves.
He was a dentist in Lewistown for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He was also past mayor of Lewistown.
He was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church; past member of Lewistown and Mifflin County School Boards; past director of the Lewistown YMCA; member of the Elks Lodge 663; and served on the board of directors of Lake Fairways Homeowners' Association, Fort Myers, Fla.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ray Orme officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Lloyd E. Champion
Born in Sunbury on Nov. 7, 1917, he was a son the late Edgar and Bertha (Treon) Champion.
His wife, Martha W. (Weir) Champion, whom he married in 1949, survives.
Also surviving are: stepdaughter, Judy Jones of Illinois, and four step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Champion, and a sister, Gladys Youtz.
He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1936.
He was a retired auditor for Railway Express Co.
He was a member of the East Salem United Methodist Church, Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge No. 22 of Sunbury, the Sunbury Moose Lodge, the Bloomsburg Consistory and AMVETS Post 122 of Thompsontown.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury RR4, with the Rev. Terry Shelton officiating.
There will be no public viewing.
The Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, is in charge of arrangements.
Amy P. Chapple
Born May 26, 1903, in Mineral Point, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Isabell (Ziglar) Walters. Her husband, William R. Chapple, died in 1960.
Surviving are a son, William D. Chapple, 150 Kish Pike, Lewistown and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
In early life, she was an elementary school teacher in Cambria County and then was employed in the laboratory at the American Viscose Corporation and as a substitute teacher in the Mifflin County School District.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, for over 74 years and taught Sunday school for 33 years. She was a former member and secretary of the Church Administrative Board and former president of the United Methodist Women.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard W. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.

UPPER BURRELL TOWNSHIP - Dennis W. Carson, 46, of Upper Burrell Township, West Moreland County, formerly of Mifflin County, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at home of natural causes. He had been a resident of Upper and Lower Burrell Townships since 1978.
REEDSVILLE - Ruth M. Carstetter, 87, of 7708 State Route 655, Reedsville, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at her home.
YANCEYVILLE, NC - Kerry Kent Carter Sr., 47, of 8198 NC 62 South, Yanceyville, NC, died suddenly of natural causes Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
