MIFFLINTOWN - Dorothy M. "Dot" Dunn, 70, of Mifflintown RR4, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at her residence. Born Sept. 18, 1930, in Tuscarora, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Howard F. and Sara V. (Hockenberry) Snyder. Her husband, Raymond W. "Chew" Dunn Jr., died July 1, 2000. She is survived by a son, Raymond W. "Scotty" Dunn III, Mifflintown RR5; a brother, Penn H. Snyder, Mifflintown RR3; two sisters, Mary Portzline, Mifflintown and Betty Fultz, Mifflin; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Snyder, John Snyder and Robert Snyder. In earlier life, she had worked at the Rug Mill, Port Royal and worked as a private housekeeper. She was also employed at the Bargain Barn, Mifflintown. Her hobbies included square dancing and crocheting. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. James A. Neimond officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal RR2. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. MIFFLINTOWN - Raymond W. "Chew" Dunn Jr., 71, of Mifflintown RR4, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his residence. Born April 8, 1929, in Port Royal, he was the son of the late Raymond W. and Mary I. (Cupp) Dunn Sr. His wife, Dorothy M. (Snyder) Dunn, whom he married Sept. 18, 1949, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Raymond W. "Scotty" Dunn III, Mifflintown RR5; a brother, Richard E. Dunn, Clifton Park, N.Y.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Dunn. He was a 1947 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal. He was the owner and operator of Dunn's Welding Supply, Mifflintown RR4. He was Lutheran by faith. He was a life member of the Mifflintown Hose Co. No. 1, the Mifflin Fire Co. No. 2, and the Juniata County Fire Police Association. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Fire Police Association and the Juniata River Stamp Club. He was an avid hunter and his hobbies included stamp collecting, woodworking, and working in his yard. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. James A. Neimond officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal RR2. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. PORT ONE, Fla. - Joseph Charles Duvall, 47, of 191 Loquat Lane, Port One, Fla. died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the Ormond Beach Hospital, Ormand Beach, Fla., of natural causes. Born Feb. 27, 1953, in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of Florence Lorraine (Foor) Duvall of Mount Union and the late Lee Duvall. He is survived by a companion with whom he resided, Louann Speare. Also surviving are: children, Richard L. "Rusty" Duvall and Crystal D. Duvall, both of Mount Union RR1, Joseph "Joey" Duvall and Thomas "Tommie" Duvall, both of Allensville; brother and sisters, Mary Laird and Peg Duvall, both of Huntingdon, Julia Lemin, Mount Union, Doris Bowers, Daytona Beach, Fla., Gladys Darlene Brown, Breezewood, Bill Duvall, Shade Gap, and Mike Duvall, Greencastle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Haggle. He served with the United States Marines. He was formerly employed by Bleyer Industry Inc., Mount Union. He was of the Pentecostal faith. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Mount Union RR1, with the Rev. James Hullihen and the Rev. Gordon Ross officiating. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, Huntingdon, PA 16652. The Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, is in charge of arrangements.
REEDSVILLE - David L. Earnest, 76, of 5845 Back Mountain Road, Reedsville, died at 6:59 a.m. Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Jan. 3, 1924, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Harvey P. and Sarah (Betlyoun) Earnest. His wife, Anna M. (Miller) Earnest, whom he married Aug. 27, 1949, survives. Also surviving are: children, Kathryn A. Moore and Steven D. Earnest, both of Harrisburg and Jeffrey L. Earnest, Mifflintown; sister and brother, Helen P. Snyder, Brunswick, Ga. and Byron C. Earnest, Milroy; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Harvey S. Earnest. He was a crane operator for Standard Steel, retiring in 1986 with 25 years of services. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey and the Rev. Elam Glick officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Barrville Mennonite Church, 48 Barrville Mountain Road, Reedsville, PA 17084.
LEWISTOWN - Earl F. Earnest, 68, of 715 Roundhouse Road, Lewistown, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born Nov. 18, 1931, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Ross M. and Edna (Colyer) Earnest. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise (Osborne) Earnest of 715 Roundhouse Road, Lewistown, whom he married June 16, 1950. Also surviving are: children, Harry E. Earnest, Lewistown, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Aultz, McVeytown, Ronald L. Earnest Sr., Lewistown, Mrs. Terry (Lisa) Youtzy, Lewistown and Mrs. Rick (Crystal) Narehood, Lewistown; brothers, Charles L. Earnest, Reedsville and Carl R. Earnest, Lewistown; 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers. He was a mechanic for Womeldorf Trucking in Yeagertown from 1956-1972 and a welder at Overhead Door from 1972-1995, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown, a life member of Junction Fire Company and a member of the Teamsters Union Harrisburg Local. Services are at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Michael Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
RICHFIELD - Ethel P. Earnest, 84, of Outlook Pointe Commons, Lewisbury, formerly of Richfield RR1, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born Feb. 22, 1915, in Richfield RR1, she was a daughter of the late Samuel S. and Grace (Shirk) Leitzel. Her husband, Russell Earnest, whom she married June 26, 1948, died Aug. 24, 1974. Surviving are: sisters, M. Kathryn Amey, Mifflintown RR1, and Mrs. G. Edgar (A. Geraldine) Arbogast, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Glenn E. Leitzel, in childhood, C. Shirk Leitzel, S. Ernest Leitzel, Robert A. Leitzel, and H. Nobel Leitzel; and two sisters, Agnes Mae Fisher and Olive E. Hornberger. She was educated at Graybill's Grammar schoolhouse, Upper Heister Valley, Richfield RR1. She also studied and completed the practical nursing program at Lewistown Hospital. She worked for the Richfield Shirt Factory and retired from the Middleburg Throwing Mill, Middleburg. She was a lifelong member of Richfield Mennonite Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing quilt piece work for the Mennonite Church women's sewing group. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Richfield Mennonite Church, Richfield, with the Rev. Chandler J. Cutting officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Richfield Mennonite Church, RR1, Box 11, Richfield, PA 17086. The George P. LEWISTOWN - Mary E. Earnest, 76, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of 40 Spanogle Ave., Lewistown, died at 3:20 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Dec. 20, 1923, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late William and Jennie "Claire" (Shehan) Spickler. Her husband, Clarence E. Earnest, died in 1970. Surviving are: children, Clarence E. Earnest, 222 S. Logan Boulevard, Burnham, Mrs. Edwin (Mary Lou) Barber, 81 Chestnut Ridge Road, McVeytown, Mrs. Michael (Brenda K.) Pauly, 32 Feeder Ave., Lewistown, and Daniel R. Earnest, 8 Path St., Mifflin; brothers and sisters, Harry Spickler and Frances Yoder, both of Belleville, Grace Hoffman, McClure, Lee Spickler, McVeytown, and Paul Spickler, Lewistown; seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. She was employed as a supervisor at Empire Kosher, retiring in 1983 due to disability. She was a member of Centre Union Church, Lewistown and the Happy Workers Sunday School Class. She was the first dialysis patient at the Lewistown Hospital Dialysis Unit. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Leon Clayberger officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - S. Evelyn "Peg" Earnest, 88, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Milroy, died at 8:25 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Oct. 21, 1912, in Centre Hall, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Bessie (Meyers) Moyer. Her husband, John Long, died in 1943. Surviving are: children, Thelma Spagnoletti and Samuel K. Earnest III, both of Milroy, Phyllis Glace, Spring Mills, Mrs. Norman (Shirley) Aumiller, McClure, and Mrs. Harris (Judith) Watson, Alfarata; a brother, Stanley Moyer, Centre Hall; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son and an infant daughter; four brothers and two sisters. She worked for Crum Bakery and then as a meat cutter at Empire Kosher, retiring in 1978. She was Lutheran by faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and auto racing. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
