J. Paul French
DAVIDSVILLE - J. Paul French, 81, of Carpenter Park Road, Davidsville, formerly of Mifflintown, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Laurel Wood Care Center, Johnstown.

Born Feb. 16, 1919, in Mattawana, he was a son of the late William H. and Ruth M. (Kaufman) French. His first wife, Sarah (Miller) French, died July 11, 1991. His second wife of seven years, Evelyn (Knavel) Shetler French, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Larry French, North Carolina, Daryl French, Richfield, William French and Thomas French, both of Mifflintown; stepchildren, Sherrill Koontz, Johnstown, Myles Shetler, Hollsopple, Arden Shetler, Mentor, Ohio; brothers and sister, Mark French and David French, both of Mattawana, Jesse French, Lewistown, Samuel French, Harry French, and Mary Alice French, all of McVeytown and Ray French, Kansas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Dale French; two infant children; two brothers and one sister.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was also employed as a groundskeeper for Glen Lehman Woodcrafts.

He was a member of the Carpenters Park Mennonite Church and a former member of the Mattawana Mennonite Church.

He loved to read his Bible.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mattawana Mennonite Church, Mifflin County, with the Rev. Gary Krabill and the Rev. Marvin Kaufman officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville and from 11 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the church.

Samuel J. French
MCVEYTOWN - Samuel J. French, 77, of McVeytown, died at 5:13 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Jan. 18, 1923, in Bratton Township, he was a son of the late William H. and Ruth (Kauffman) French. His wife, Savilla C. (Renninger) French, whom he married July 3, 1943, died Aug. 22, 1990.

Surviving are: children, Lee French, Ryde, Sara J. French and Terry J. French, both of McVeytown; brothers and sisters, Mark E. French, Harry J. French Sr., and Mary Alice French, all of McVeytown RR, David W. French, Mattawana, Jesse A. French, Lewistown, and Raymond E. French, Hesston, Kan.; one granddaughter, three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Annie S. Smith, and three brothers, J. Paul French, Andrew E. French and Charles B. French.

He was a truck driver for Noerr Motor Freight, Lewistown, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of McVeytown United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McVeytown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marian E. Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.

Family will receive friends from 6:30-9 p.m. Friday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown.

Lyndel L. Frohm
CARLISLE - Lyndel L. Frohm, 49, of 537 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 1999, at her mother's home at 1286 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown.

Born Feb. 1, 1950, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Bertha L. (Lynn) Dell, 1286 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, and the late Russell E. Dell, who died May 26, 1997.

Surviving are: a son, David L. Frohm, Carlisle; brother and sisters, Russell E. Dell, Lewistown, Mrs. Howard M. (Mary Ann) Shehan, McClure, Mrs. James R. (Cheryl E.) Bell, Lewistown, and Rhonda L. Dell, Mifflinburg; and two grandchildren.

She was a 1968 graduate of Chief Logan High School.

She was an account representative in the billing department of the Carlisle Hospital.

She was a member of the Ryde United Methodist Church, and the American Cancer Society.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

Family will receive friends from noon until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, 112 N. Wayne St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Philip Ray Froman
MOUNT UNION - Philip Ray Froman, 64, of Mount Union died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Flasher, Mount Union; children, Kevin Froman, Largo, Fla., Stephen Froman, St. Petersburg, Fla.; stepchildren, Donna Brenneman, York and David Shisler, Mount Union; brother, Donald Froman, Litchfield, Ill. and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Daniel T. D'Alessandro Funeral Home Ltd., 4522 Butler St., Pittsburgh, is in charge of arrangements.

Albert E. Fry
LEWISTOWN - Albert E. Fry, 55, of Rear 808 S. Wayne St., Lewistown, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born July 12, 1944, in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Albert and Mildred May (Decker) Fry. His wife, Patricia L. (Filler) Fry of Rear 808 S. Wayne St., Lewistown, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Michael (Gaynell) Solt, 22 Feeder Ave., Lewistown, and Kevin A. L. Fry, 16 W. Fourth St., Lewistown; brother and sisters, John Wyland, Winder, Ga., Shirley Carolus, Duluth, Ga., Hazel Bowsman, Snook Road, McClure, Sandra Goodling, McClure, and Judy Haines, Lewistown; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Paul Fry, and a sister, Louise Gearhart.

He was a member of the National Guards for six years.

He was a meat cutter for Coble's Foods prior to his disability retirement.

He was also a member of the Owls Club, City Hook and Ladder Fire Company and East Derry Fire Company.

He was an avid gardener.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Cemetery, Alfarata, with Captain Eddie Purvis officiating.

There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Beatrice M. Fry
PORT ROYAL - Beatrice M. Fry, 88, of 907 Milford St., Port Royal, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 1999, at her residence.

Born June 25, 1910, in Mattawana, she was the late William and Emma (Adams) Freed. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James V. Fry and her second husband Blair A. Fry.

Surviving are: sons, William L. Fry, Honey Grove RR1, Robert L. Fry, Port Royal, and F. Jesse Fry, Port Royal RR1; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Max L. Fry and Larry D. Fry; three brothers; a sister; and a grandson.

She was a member of South Juniata Baptist Church, Honey Grove RR1.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at South Juniata Baptist Church, with Pastor Dennis R. Thompson Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Adams Cemetery, Walker Township.

Friends may call from from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m.

Mildred E. 'Mid' Fry
LEWISTOWN - Mildred E. "Mid" Fry, 91, a resident of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of West Water Street, Lewistown, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at the manor.

Born Oct. 6, 1908, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Bessie (Thornburg) Garrett.

Surviving are: children, Margaret A. Fry, Lewistown, and David K. Fry, Arnold, Md.; sister and brother, Elsie Rittenhouse, Lewistown, and J. Lewis Garrett, Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, William John Fry III, in 1991; a sister, Margaret "Bob" Bossert, and a grandson.

Early in life, she was employed at American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown, and Lewistown Hospital. She then worked as a bookkeeper/clerk for Robert E. Johnson Plumbing and Heating for over 30 years, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, where she was a member of the Administrative Board and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Twentieth Century Club and of the Mifflin County Girl Scouts and was a leader, trainer, board member, cookie chairman, and volunteer at Camp Barree.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. David Schmuck officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the charity of one's choice.

Harry E. Frye
LANCASTER - Harry E. Frye, 54, 1708 Wiker Ave., Lancaster, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, in Mifflin County. He died of a heart attack while hunting.

Born in Maytown, he was a son of the late Ray and Olive (Byers) Frye. His wife, Ruthann (Earhart) Frye, whom he married Nov. 9, 1968, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Robert (Lori Ann) Rauch, York, and Jeffrey L. Buch, Milroy; Timothy E. Buch, Lancaster, and Gregory S. Frye, Merchantville, N.J.; brothers and sisters, Ray A. Frye, Strasburg, Martin L. Frye and Nancy L. Frye, both of Elizabethtown, and Mary Louise Bigler, Linglestown; and six grandchildren.

He was a 1963 graduate of Donegal High School, Lancaster.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a production worker for the Mount Joy Wire Co. for 34 years.

He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, the Strasburg Sportsmans Club, and president of the Gainful Investors Club. He was also a member of American Legion Post 34, Lancaster, and a member of the Liederkranz.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf.

Services were held Tuesday at Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange Street, Lancaster, with the Rev. Jennifer B. Clark officiating. Interment was in Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
