Irene E. 'Betty' Gardner
LEWISTOWN - Irene E. "Betty" Gardner, 82, of Kish Apts., 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born Oct. 30, 1916, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Marie E. (Gemberling) Gemberling. Her husband, Henry F. Gardner, died Oct. 23, 1977.

Surviving are: sisters, Joan Metz, 1534 Middle Road, Lewistown and Velma Shawver, 17 Goss Terrace, Lewistown.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

She was a waitress in the Philadelphia area.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, with the Rev. Derald Stump officiating.

There will be no public viewing.

Memorial contributions may be to: St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the charity of one's choice.

The Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Quentin 'Bim' Gaugler
MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Robert Quentin "Bim" Gaugler, 78, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, Sunbury, formerly of Mount Pleasant Mills RR1, died at 5:56 a.m. Monday, June 14, 1999, at Sunbury Community Hospital.

Born July 18, 1920, in Port Trevorton, he was the son of the late James and Blanche (Rothermel) Gaugler. His wife, Katherine M. (Inch) Gaugler, whom he married Sept. 1939, died July 12, 1996.

Surviving are: children, R. James 'Jim' Gaugler, Port Trevorton RR1, and Mrs. Lewis C. (Ruth A.) Kantz, Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Gaugler, and a great-grandson, Jamie Kantz.

He was educated at Port Trevorton Grammar School.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served with the Atlantic fleet.

He retired as a mechanic from Hall's Motor Transit company of Sunbury and Mechanicsburg after 33 years. After that, he worked part-time as a custodian for West Perry Elementary School, Mount Pleasant Mills.

He was a life member of Port Trevorton Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of Lafayette Lodge, F&AM, Selinsgrove, and the Teamsters Local No. 776, Harrisburg.

He was Protestant by faith.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and camping.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Kavin K. Rossman, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Mifflinburg, officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 364, Liverpool, will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2.

Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, Snyder County Division, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Myrtle V. Gearhart
LEWISTOWN - Myrtle V. Gearhart, 86, a resident of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 7:23 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the manor.

Born May 8, 1913, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Clinton P. and Laura (Jones) Varner. Her husband, George E. Gearhart, whom she married April 10, 1931, died Dec. 18, 1985.

Surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Harry (Thelma) Geedey, Mifflintown RR3 and Mrs. Keith (Marcia) Naylor, McAlisterville RR2; a brother, William Varner, McAlisterville RR2; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Foster Varner, Jack Varner, Mable DeLancey, Pearl Schmitt, Grace Prettyman, Irene Jones and Dora Applegit.

She attended McAlisterville area schools.

She retired in 1975 after working 43 years as a seamstress and machine operator for L. Shellenberger and Sons and later Lyons Fashions, McAlisterville.

She was a member of the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the administrative board.

She enjoyed sewing and shopping.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Donald W. Raffensperger officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, RR1, Box 792, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

John E. Gehman
PORT TREVORTON - John E. Gehman, 78, of Port Trevorton RR1, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Terre Hill, he was a son of the late Harry and Sarah (Eby) Gehman. His wife, Anna Mae (Mull) Gehman, whom he married April 18, 1946, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Larry Gehman, Middleburg, John Wayne Gehman, McAlisterville, Mrs. Larry (Louise) Eichner, AuGres, Mich., Mrs. Carl (Sharon) Graybill, Cocolamus, Pauline Gehman, Palmyra, Mrs. Timothy (Mary Alyce) Lauver, Mifflintown, and Ida Mae Gehman, Lebanon; brothers and sisters, Jacob Gehman, Thompsontown, Lester Gehman, Manheim, Martin Gehman, Altmore, Mrs. Norman (Edith) Groff, Mattawana, Mrs. John (Lucy) Rudy, Lancaster, and Mrs. Hiram (Grace) Aungst, Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three foster grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Gehman.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Shade Mountain Mennonite Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Ivan Martin Jr. and LeRoy Bair officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Shade Mountain Mennonite Church Building Fund, c/o Clayton R. Graybill, RR1, Box 968, Richfield, PA 17086 or to the Lumiere Medical Mission (a charitable fund for patients at the Hospital of Light in southern Haiti), 209 West Second Ave., Gastonia, NC 28052-Attention: H. William F. Geibel
LEWISTOWN - William F. Geibel, 89, 415 Harvard St., Lewistown, died at 9:26 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at his residence.

Born March 11, 1910, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Carrie P. (Gazette) and William F. Geibel Sr. His wife, Elizabeth M. (Ulsh) Geibel, whom he married Oct. 4, 1946, survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Sue Ann) Dunmire, 133 S. River Road, McVeytown and Mrs. Steven (Gloria P.) Stewart, 402 Harvard St., Lewistown; sisters, Charlotte Baker, 342 S. Main St., Lewistown, Mary Hummel, 38 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown and Jane Prough, Huntingdon; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre.

He co-owned Dependable Dry Cleaners until 1972 and then was employed as custodian at the Juniata-Mifflin Counties Vocational-Technical School, until retiring in 1978.

He was a life member of Brooklyn Hose Co. and the Owls Club.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating.

There will be no public viewing. His body was donated as an Anatomical Humanities gift.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. 4th St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Lillian M. Gerhart
PORT ROYAL - Lillian M. Gerhart, 93, of Town Lane, Port Royal, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at her home.

Born March 21, 1907, in Lykens, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Rosa May Hollinger. Her husband, Park K. Gerhart, died Sept. 15, 1982.

Surviving are: a son, Ronald P. Gerhart, Middleboro, Mass.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren..

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

She was a 1925 graduate of Central High School, Harrisburg.

She was a member of Port Royal Lutheran Church for more than 60 years. She was also a charter member of the Port Royal Literary Guild.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Marton J. Roberson officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Della Ruth Getz
LEWISTOWN - Della Ruth Getz, 78, of 9959 US Highway 522 South, Lewistown, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at her residence.

Born April 13, 1921, in McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Ethel (Parks) Hamer. Her husband, Samuel A. Getz Jr., died April 15, 1988.

Surviving are: children, Samuel A. Getz III, Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, Michael L. Getz, Valley Street, Lewistown, and Dennis J. Getz, Hillside Drive, Lewistown; brothers, Frank Hamer, North Versailles and William Hamer, Danville, Va.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Troutman.

She was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School.

She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating. Interment will be held in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

George M. Gibson
BEDFORD - George M. Gibson, 97, of Egolf Road, Bedford, died Saturday March 6, 1999, at the Manor Care Nursing Home, Chambersburg.

Born Dec. 8, 1907, in the Colerain Township, he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas and Clara (Pensyl) Gibson. His wife, Leone (Diehl) Gibson, whom he married on June 11, 1942 in Friends Cove, survives.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, John Gibson, Paul Gibson, Fred Gibson and Robert Gibson.

He was a graduate of Penn State University.

He retired as a teacher in 1970 after 44 years of service. He taught at the Coleran Elementary School and later worked in Mifflin County as an industrial arts teacher.

He was a member of the Friends Cove United Church of Christ, the Charlesville Grange, the State and National Education Associations, and the Bedford Area Seniors.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Friends Cove United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Paul Claycomb officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, 214 S. Juliana St., Bedford and from 10:30 until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Friends Cove United Church of Christ, c/o Eva Turner, Egolf Road, Bedford, PA.
