Richard P. Gro
LEWISTOWN - Richard P. Gro, 83, of Lockport Road, Lewistown, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at his home.

Born March 22, 1916, in Oliver Township, he was a son of the late Edward and Bella (Stine) Gro. His wife, Betty M. (Sheaffer) Gro, whom he married April 1, 1949, survives.

Also surviving are: son and daughter, Dale R. Gro, Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, and Mrs. Thomas (Bella) Kauffman, Cedar Drive, Lewistown; brother and sister, Howard S. Gro, Lockport Road, Lewistown, and Mrs. Gene (Mildred) Riley, US Highway 522S McVeytown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the Men's Bible Sunday school class of the church, and the 302 Hunting Club.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Marian E. Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Albert P. Groninger
PORT ROYAL - Albert P. Groninger, 79, of Port Royal RR2, died Tuesday afternoon Aug. 3, 1999, at his home.

Born June 17, 1920, in Milford Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Jacob B. and Margaret (Gilson) Groninger. His wife, Kathryn G. "Kate" (Trego) Groninger, died July 15, 1988.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Joyce) Bierly, Rebersburg; a sister, Betty Walker, Bartow, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Earl Groninger, Boyd Groninger, and Lenore Naylor.

He was a graduate of Port Royal High School.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Juniata County Farm Bureau.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Frank J. Swartz and Pastor Richard H. Burchfield officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Eliose Cockrill Groninger
LEWISTOWN - Margaret Eliose Cockrill Groninger, 73, of 75 Luther Drive, Lewistown, died at 1:07 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Oct. 11, 1926, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Addison M. and Lillian (Ingle) Cockrill. Her husband, J. Donald Groninger, died Sept. 8, 1996.

Surviving are: daughters, Kim M. Hannon, 224 Cider Lane, Lewistown, and Tracy D. Bailor, 236 Tanbark Drive, Lewistown; a sister, K. Doreen DeHart, Mechanicsburg; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Addison M. Cockrill, and a sister, Mildred "Bobbie" Reed.

She served for many years as the court reporter for Mifflin County and later for Juniata and Perry counties, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, she was employed by the Department of Defense at the Pentagon, Washington, DC, and by the Pennsylvania State University.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Howard E. 'Chub' Grose
LEWISTOWN - Howard E. "Chub" Grose, 76, of 3735 SR 103 North, Lewistown, died at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his residence.

Born July 20, 1923, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Willis F. and Mary E. (Hartley) Grose. His wife, Louise (Fisher) Grose, whom he married Feb. 24, 1945, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Stephen L. Grose, Enola, Gregory E. Grose, Lewistown, and Mrs. Mark (Anita) Dias, Orchard Park, N.Y.; brother and sisters, Charles Grose, Mrs. Harry (Clara) Kohler, and Mrs. Harry (Anna) Hain, all of Lewistown, Mrs. Oliver (Edith) Baker, Erie, and Bertha Cromwell, Greeley, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

He was an insurance representative and field manager for Baltimore Life Insurance Co. and was the first agent in Lewistown to receive the President's Club Award. He was also a farmer most of his life.

He was a member of the Granville United Methodist Church, where he was one of the founders of the Men's Club, served on various church boards, was a Sunday school teacher, and was director of the Youth Fellowship Program.

He was a life member of Granville Fire Co.; a member of the United Commercial Traveller's 591 Council where he served as past Grand Chancellor. He also served as Granville Township Supervisor for several terms and was a member of the Knights of Malta.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Granville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond T. Brinson Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Granville United Methodist Church, Granville, PA 17029 or to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Martha Riden Gross
LEWISTOWN - Martha Riden Gross, 70, of 123 E. Third St., Lewistown, died at noon Monday, May 10, 1999, at her residence.

Born June 2, 1928, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Clarion Daniel and Ann Margaret (Riden) Gross.

Surviving are: a sister, Elta M. Lauver, 123 E. Third St., Lewistown; and two nephews, Geoffrey E. Gross, London, England and Roger B. Gross, New York City, NY.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a graduate of the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for Lewistown Hospital, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown.

There will be no public viewing.

Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Virginia Marguerite Brown Grove
ORBISONIA - Virginia Marguerite Brown Grove, 79, a resident of the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, formerly of Huntingdon RR2, died at 4:13 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at the center.

Born June 26, 1920, in Saxton, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Albert and Sarah Jane (Weidner) Brown. Her husband, Samuel Calvin Grove, whom she married in 1941 in Winchester, Va., died Feb. 26, 1991.

Surviving are: children, Ronald L. Grove, Alexandria, Beverly L. Caldwell, Shirley J. Wilson, and Patricia D. Webb, all of Huntingdon, Richard A. Grove, Kennesaw, Ga., Kathy E. Hagans, Reedsville, and Robert C. Grove, Farmville, Va.; brothers and sisters, Kenneth E. Brown and Merle Brown, both of Huntingdon, George Brown, Bedford, Dorothy McDowell, New Jersey, Dick Brown, Alpena, Mich., Clair Brown, Sarasota, Fla., Thelma Richards, Raleigh, N.C., and Harriet Chinn, Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters, Chalmer, Ruth, Lucille, Harold, Robert, and Elda.

She was educated in the Upper Corners, Penn Township public schools and was a graduate of Huntingdon High School.

From 1966-1976, she was employed at the Arrow Shirt Factory in Huntingdon and from 1976 until she retired in 1990, she worked for Elco in the Huntingdon plant.

She attended Jacobs United Church of Christ, Hesston.

She enjoyed flower gardening and baking.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Harold Lloyd Blattenberger officiating. Interment will be in White Church Cemetery, Penn Township, Hesston.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 810, Huntingdon, PA 16652 or to Jacobs United Church of Christ, Piney Ridge, Huntingdon, PA 16652.

Annabelle Gutshall
HOUSTON, Texas - Annabelle Gutshall, 89, of 535 West Troy, Houston, Texas, formerly of Lewistown, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Doctors Hospital-Parkway, Houston, Texas.

Born March 10, 1910, in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Rosalia (Proderbarac) Rosegay Roskey. Her husband, Irvin Gutshall, preceded her in death.

Surviving are: children, Shirley Gutshall, Houston, Texas, Marilyn Kauffman, Lewistown, and Judy Gutshall, Peoria, Ariz.; a sister, Rose Chamberlain, Lewistown; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Oak Street, Lewistown.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Dean Bobb officiating, at St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.

There will be no public viewing.

Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia F. Gulden
LEWISTOWN - Virginia F. Gulden, 92, of 504 Open Hearth Manor, Lewistown, died at 3:07 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at her residence.

Born Aug. 20, 1907, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Caroline (Friedrich) McCabe. Her first husband, Robert J. Mattern Jr., and her second husband, Horace B. Gulden, both preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick McCabe.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
