David A. Harshbarger
MCVEYTOWN - David A. Harshbarger, 90, of McVeytown RR2, died at 5:11 a.m. Sunday, July 18, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1908, in Mattawana, he was the son of the late Joshua K. and Sarah E. (Miller) Harshbarger.

He is survived by a sister, Bertha A. Yoder, McVeytown RR2; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth E. Miller, Louella M. Harshbarger, and an infant sister; a half brother and half sister.

He was a lifelong farmer and an avid hunter and trapper.

He was a member of the Mattawana Mennonite Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Sunday school and was a former Sunday school teacher.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mattawana Mennonite Church, with the Rev. M. Leon Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.

The Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, is in charge of arrangements.

Marlin E. 'Sonny' Harshbarger Sr.
YORK HAVEN - Marlin E. "Sonny" Harshbarger Sr., 63, of York Haven, formerly of Parkview, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born Jan. 16, 1937, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Howard E. Harshbarger and Helen (Peck) Harshbarger Decker. His wife, Jerene (Forry) Harshbarger, whom he married Dec. 17, 1957, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Timothy M. Harshbarger, Winchester, Va., Jeffrey R. Harshbarger, Greensburg, Marlin E. Harshbarger Jr., New Cumberland, Howard E. Harshbarger and Kathy Jo Gross, both of York Haven, and Shae E. Harshbarger, Camp Hill; brother and sisters, Leroy H. Harshbarger, Mt. Wolf, Barbara Hawkes, Milroy, and Mamie Grantham, Grovetown, Ga.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a United States Navy veteran of 13 years, having served at the Bay of Pigs and during the Vietnam era.

He was a machine operator for Caterpillar in York, retiring after 24 years of service in 1997.

He was a member of the William H. Nauss American Legion Post 143.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Beaver-Urich Funeral Home Inc., 305 W. Front St., Lewisberry, with the Rev. Richard A. Stambaugh officiating. Interment will be in Tri-County Memorial Gardens, Lewisberry, with military rites conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Milton L. 'Hoodle' Harshbarger
LONGFELLOW- Milton L. "Hoodle" Harshbarger, 80, of Longfellow, Lewistown RR2, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, at his home.

Born March 12, 1919, in Bratton Township, he was the son of the late Milton A. and Grace (Miller) Harshbarger. His first wife, Lydia (Kuhn) Harshbarger, whom he married Dec. 6, 1956, died March 13, 1995. His second wife, Rose (Altemus) Harshbarger, whom he married July 1, 1996, survives.

Also surviving are: stepdaughters, Maxine King, Martinsburg and Mrs. Robert B. (Marjorie) Yoder, Lewistown RR2; two brothers, Carl D. Harshbarger, Mattawana and Clair Harshbarger, Kalamazoo, Mich.; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny M. Boaz and Zelda Hartley and a brother, Joseph E. Harshbarger.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.

He was employed by Pa. Glass and Sand, retiring in 1984 with 25 years of service.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 143, Lewistown; the Sandflat Hunting Camp in Licking Creek; a life member of the Mount Union VFW and the Atkinson Mills Sportsman's Club.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery.

Blanche B. Hare
MIFFLINTOWN - Blanche B. Hare, 97, a resident of Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown, formerly of Spanogle Avenue, Lewistown, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the manor.

Born Sept. 22, 1902, in Middleburg, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Annie (Kratzer) Keister. Her husband, Robert A. Hare, died in 1951.

Surviving are: a son, Robert A. Hare, Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers.

She was employed for 16 years in the kitchen of Lewistown Hospital.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Oak Street, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with James Story officiating. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Pauline K. Hart
MCALISTERVILLE - Pauline K. Hart, 89, formerly of McAlisterville RR1, died at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Brookline Manor Convalescent Rest Home, Mifflintown RR1.

Born Dec. 15, 1910, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Bertha (Kauffman) Kauffman. Her husband, Harry J. Hart, whom she married Jan. 4, 1930, preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1987.

Surviving are: children, Thomas H. Hart, Mifflintown, Robert L. Hart, McAlisterville, Thelma Thompson, Thompsontown, and Nancy Shelley, Etters; brother and sisters, Homer Kauffman and Charlotte VanOrmer, both of McAlisterville, Ruth Keiser, Ogden, Utah, and Isabel Mohlmann, Newport Ritchey, Fla; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe Kauffman in 1995, and Luther Kauffman in 1996.

She was head cook at Fayette Elementary School, McAlisterville, for 22 years until her retirement in 1976.

She was a member of Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville, and a past member of Lady Lafayette Rebekah Lodge No. 384, McAlisterville.

She enjoyed quilting and baking.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Graham C. Fowler and the Rev. Walter E. Williams officiating. Interment will be in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mabel I. Hartley
MCVEYTOWN - Mabel I. Hartley, 82, of 280 W. Holiday St., McVeytown, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 19, 1917, in Granville Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late D. Irvin and Huldah (Mowery) Hartley.

Surviving are: nieces and nephews, Carol A. Howe, McVeytown RD, and Gail L. Gibbons, Mattawana, and Kenneth E. Hartley, Lewistown; and three great-nieces and three great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Hartley and Paul Hartley, and a sister, Mary Hartley.

She was a practical nurse, retiring in 1978.

She was a charter member of Centre Union Church, Lewistown, where she was in the Happy Workers Sunday School Class.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Centre Union Church, Lewistown, with the Rev. Leon R. Clayberger officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.

Frank J. Hartman
MILLMONT - Frank J. Hartman, 69, a resident of Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home, RR1, Millmont, formerly of Mifflintown and rural Duncannon, died Monday Aug. 2, 1999, at the home.

Born Sept. 15, 1929, in Enola, he was a son of the late Louis and Eva Hartman.

Surviving are: three sons, Frank, Robert "Bob", and Hank; three daughters, Mary, Carol, and Robin; five brothers; and two sisters.

He worked on the railroad in the Enola area and as a salvage yard laborer.

Early in life, he attended the Church of God.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, with the Rev. Thomas F. Barnes officiating.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Arlene Cupp Hassinger
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Arlene Cupp Hassinger, 80, New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Lewistown and Bellefonte, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Community Hospital of New Port Richey in Florida.

Born Nov. 15, 1919, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Effie May (Flickinger) Cupp. Her husband, John W. Hassinger, died April 16, 1990.

Surviving are a brother, Donald O. Cupp, Tampa, Fla., and a half sister, Althea Cleck, Marysville.

She was preceded in death by a son, John C. Hassinger, on Dec. 21, 1997.

She retired as a manager for Danks Department Store after 25 years of service in Bellefonte.

She was a member of the Magnolia Valley Country Club, New Port Richey, Fla.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Homes, Congress Street Chapel, New Port Richey, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.
