Born Jan. 24, 1936, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Anna Grace Hoffman. His former wife, Kay (Crawford) Hoffman, survives.
Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Edward (Karen D.) Rusbarsky, Altoona, Mrs. Scott (Kathi D.) Anderson, Wintersville, N.C., and Mrs. Jeffrey (Lisa A.) Fernback, Middletown; a sister, JoAnn Bear, McVeytown; nine grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1954.
From 1951 to 1956, he was news director, announcer and engineer at WMRF and WLTN, Lewistown, and WJUN, Mexico, radio stations. After that, he was a reporter and photographer with The Sentinel, Lewistown, from 1956-1957, and then news director at WHUN radio, Huntingdon, and a reporter and photographer with The Daily News, Huntingdon, from 1957-1958.
Later, he was operations manager at Mifflin-Juniata-Perry Broadcasting Co. Inc., Lewistown, from 1958-1959; news director for Westchester County Broadcasting Inc., Peekskill, N.Y., from 1959-1960; director of news and public affairs with WFBG radio and television, Altoona, Triangle Publications, Broadcast Division, from 1960-1972; and director of public information and relations at Penn State University, State College, from 1972-1979.
From February 1981 until his retirement Nov. 13, 1998, he was director of the Bureau of Information and Education with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
He also served as PGC's first public relations officer and legislative liaison. He was a certified Hunter Education Instructor for PGC since 1966, and a deputy wildlife conservation officer since July 1964.
He played a key role in establishing wildlife education supervisor/specialist positions in each of six field regions.
He was named Communicator of the Year by the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in 1990; outstanding Game Commission employee in 1995, and Northeast Fish and Wildlife Agencies' Communicator of the Year in 1997.
He attended Garden Chapel, Lower Swatara Township, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Garden Chapel, 468 Edinburgh Road, Lower Swatara Township, with the Rev. Paul Maulfair officiating.
Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the chapel.
Frank E. Matinchek and Daughter Funeral Home, 260 E. Main St., Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.
Marlin S. 'Bike' Hoffman
Born April 22, 1927, in Evendale, he was a son of the late Mary Alma (Sankey) and George A. Hoffman Sr. His wife, Jean E. (Reynolds) Hoffman, whom he married Oct. 6, 1945, survives.
Also surviving are: two children, Norann M. Kauffman and Michael M. Hoffman, both of Richfield RR1; brothers, Robert Hoffman and George A. Hoffman Jr., both of McAlisterville RR1, Norman Hoffman, HCR 63 Cocolamus, and John Hoffman, Richfield RR1; a sister, Gladys Leitzel, HCR63, Richfield; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin Hoffman and Wilmer Hoffman.
He had attended Cocolamus Grammar School.
His working life started with a logging operation and working at the Cocolamus Feed Mill, while also farming the family farm. From 1965 until his retirement in 1990, he was employed as a highway construction superintendent for KIM-BOB Inc., Harrisburg.
He was a member of Niemond's Independent Church, Richfield RR1, where he had been on the Cemetery board.
He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and past member of the Holstein Friesian Registry Association.
He was an avid deer hunter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Niemond's Independent Church, Richfield RR1, with the Rev. J. Arthur Mott officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery.

Wasyl Hohol
He was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Staniflov, Ukraine. His wife, Marie (Steforik) Hohol, whom he married May 13, 1943, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Michael Hohol and Nicholas Hohol, both of Sacramento, Calif., Walter J. Hohol, Mifflintown RR1, Stephen J. Hohol, Lewistown, Olga Steele, Suffolk, Va., and Rose M. Shingleton, Romney, W. Va.; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was a cement finisher for John E. Groninger Inc., Mexico, Pa., retiring in 1987.
A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Jude's Catholic Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Thomas C. Marickovic and the Rev. John A. Rocco officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown RR4.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
Born Oct. 13, 1968, in Harrisburg, he was a son of Jeffrey S. and Trudy M. (DeVore) Hoke, Mifflintown RR2.
Also surviving are: a brother and sister, Joseph R. Hoke, Mifflintown RR2, and Lisa M. Treaster, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2; paternal grandfather, Walter C. Hoke, McVeytown; maternal grandmother, Norma V. (DeVore) Sheck, Mifflintown RR2; two nieces and three nephews.
He was a 1987 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown.
He was employed at Hoke's Custom Furniture, Mifflintown RR2.
He was a member of VFW Post 5863, Mifflintown and the American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, McAlisterville RR1, with Pastor Elwood O. Johnson officiating.

Margaret M. Holland
Born Dec. 14, 1914, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (Flasher) Getz. Her husband, Warren J. Holland, whom she married Nov. 21, 1933, in Lewistown, died July 31, 1983.
Surviving are: children, Warren J. Holland Jr. and Frederick Holland, both of Hesston, and Patricia Ann Getic, Altoona RR; brothers and sisters, Sarah Kylor, Mapleton, Verna Hess, Walpole, N.H., Clair Getz, Riverside, Ohio, and Erman Getz, Mount Union; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and four brothers.
She was a homemaker and had been employed as the supervisor of the housekeeping department at Juniata College, retiring in 1985. Prior to that, she worked at the Huntingdon Silk Mill and Owens Corning Fiberglass.
She attended Hesston Community Chapel, Hesston.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. James Blair and Pastor Mahlon Smith officiating. Interment will be in Bowman's Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton RR.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Opal Kathleen Holland
Born April 5, 1931, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Barger) Mahady. Her husband, Paul H. "Buster" Holland, died Dec. 21, 1995.
Surviving are: children, John P. Holland, Milroy, Guy W. Holland, Burnham, and Jeffrey A. Holland, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Henrietta Beaver, Mifflintown, Thomas Mahady, Belleville, Phyllis Esh, Reedsville, Paul Mahady, Lewistown, and Carl "Buck" Mahady, Virginia; stepbrother and stepsister, Wilbur Ulsh, Belleville, and Winifred Chaffe, State College; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, stepmother Annie Mahady and stepsister Shirley Ferguson.
Early in life, she worked at Fisher's Electronics.
She was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church; the ladies auxiliary of Yeagertown Fire Company; and Rebekahs of Odd Fellows Dist. No. 14.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment was in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.
The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ruth Z. Hommel
Born Jan. 17, 1917, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin E. and Mary (Kostenbauder) Hommel.
She is survived by: a niece, Betty Furgison, Winchester, VA; sister and brother, Grace S. Heath, Cincinnati, Ohio and Edward S. Hommel, Camp Hill.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown. She was the organist at the First Community Church of Maitland and was a Sunday school teacher.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Maitland Community Cemetery, with Karen McCachren officiating.
There will be a public viewing immediately prior to the graveside service.
Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham is in charge of arrangements.
Walter W. Hoopes
Born Jan. 7, 1910, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Willis Daniel and Alice Mae (McCallister) Hoopes. His wife, Edna K. (Pannebaker) Hoopes, died June 28, 1997.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Betty H. Overholt, Albuquerque, N.M.
He was the last of his immediate family.
He was a veteran having served as a Tech. Sgt. in the US Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was employed by the American Viscose Corporation, Division of FMC.
He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Lind Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Clifford R. Miller officiating. Interment will follow.
There will be no public viewing.
The Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

MIFFLINTOWN - Michael S. Hoke, 31, of Mifflintown RR2, died at 12:03 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
