Yost Y. Hostetler
MCCLURE - Yost Y. Hostetler, 44, of McClure RR2, died of natural causes at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at his home.

Born Sept. 11, 1954, in Winter, Mo., he was the son of S. John and Lena H. (Yoder) Hostetler, McClure RR2.

Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Rebecca Y. Hostetler, Reedsville, Emmanuel S. Hostetler, Lena Y. Hostetler, John Y. Hostetler, Emma Y. Hostetler, Samuel Y. Hostetler, and Joseph B. Hostetler, all of McClure RR.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth I. Hostetler.

He was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the S. John Hostetler residence in McClure RR2. Interment will be in the McClure Old Order Amish Cemetery.

Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha M. Hostler
PORT ROYAL - Bertha M. Hostler, 81, of Port Royal, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born June 1, 1918, in Saville, Perry County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (Smith) Orris. Her first husband, George H. Turman, died Feb. 1, 1977 and her second husband, George D. Hostler, died Dec. 24, 1992.

Surviving are: children, George W. Turman, Blain, Dolores E. Beers and Dottie M. Hostler, both of Port Royal; a brother, Donald Orris, McKenna Rest Home, Fairfield RR1; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Foster, Wilbert, Floyd and Carson Orris; and two sisters, Martha Stallman and Janet Leister.

She was a former employee of the Rae-Sel Corporation, Port Royal.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Joe Samples officiating. Interment will be in the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Academia.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John F. Houser
LEWISTOWN - John F. Houser, 63, of 104 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 14, 1936 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Fenton L. and Esther (Beaver) Houser. His wife, Marie (Spearing) Houser, whom he married in 1958, survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Deborah) Kerstetter, Logan Street, Lewistown, Mrs. Pat (Karen) Evans, Mifflintown, and Mrs. Kris (Colleen) Kratzer, Strodes Mills and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lyrian Houser and one grandson, Alex James Kratzer.

He served in the United States Army.

He was employed by Frank Guerrini Vending, Mobile Record Service and Rich Coast Coffee.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lillian Z. Houtz
MIFFLIN - Lillian Z. Houtz, 93, a resident of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC67 Mifflin, formerly of Mifflintown, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1999, at the village.

Born Oct. 10, 1905, in Milford Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late C. Herman and Josephine (Brackbill) Zook. Her husband, John Fred Houtz, whom she married March 12, 1929, died Jan. 13, 1981.

Surviving are: a son, Robert L. Houtz and a daughter, Mrs. C. Dale (Alice H.) Swartz, both of Mifflintown; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a brother, W. Ralph Zook, who died on Jan. 22, 1991, and a granddaughter, Ashley Lyne Fleisher, who died March 23, 1984.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown and the Milford Grange 773.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Anna M. Ritter officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephens Cemetery, Mifflintown RR3.

Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

M. Alice Rook Howard
BELTON, Texas - M. Alice Rook Howard, 78, of Belton, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at a nursing home in Belton, Texas.

Born Feb. 18, 1921, in Milroy, she was a daughter of the late John and Eva (Close) Rook.

Surviving are: a daughter, Barbara Holder, Belton, Texas; brothers and sisters, Daniel Rook, Upland, Calif., Clifford Rook, Mifflintown, and Brown Rook, M. Helen Bobb and Barbara Rook, all of Milroy; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Keys Valley Baptist Church, Belton, Texas, with the Rev. Mike Bergman officiating.

Dossman Funeral Home, Belton, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.

James Francis 'Jake' Hower
PHOENIX, Ariz. - James Francis "Jake" Hower, 79, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of McAlisterville, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, in Phoenix, Ariz.

Born June 30, 1920, in Juniata County, he was a son of the late William and Gertie (McElrath) Hower. His wife, Emma (Brubaker) Hower, died in October of 1985.

He is survived by numerous cousins.

He attended school in McAlisterville and was a 1940 graduate of Fayette High School.

He worked for many years in the warehouse of the McAlisterville Factory.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family at Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.

Greer Wilson Funeral Home, Phoenix, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements.

Local arrangements are by Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville.

Kathleen B. Hower
MCCLURE - Kathleen B. Hower, 80, of McClure RR1, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, at her residence.

Born Jan. 12, 1919, in Lucy's Furnace, she was a daughter of the late Cloyd and Carrie (Rosenberry) Bowsman. Her husband, Newton S. Hower, died Dec. 18, 1993.

Surviving are: children, Robert N. Hower, McClure, Ronald B. Hower and Larry C. Hower, both of Texas, and Mrs. Gary (Shirley) Johns and Randy Hower, both of Lewistown; brother and sister, Jack R. Bowsman, McClure, and Mrs. James P. (Genevieve) Eddinger, Torrance, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert K. Bowsman and Eugene M. Bowsman.

She had been employed by Empire Kosher Poultry, Mifflintown.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Dormantown Road, McClure.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Clyde B. Singh officiating. Interment will be held in Dormantown Lutheran Cemetery, McClure.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Dormantown Road, McClure, PA 17841.

Martha B. Hower
LEWISTOWN - Martha B. Hower, 84, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of Kish Apartments, Lewistown, died at 6:43 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born Aug. 28, 1915, in Entriken, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Minnie May (Brindle) Fisher. Her husband, William Banks Hower, died Dec. 18, 1992.

Surviving are: children, Mrs. George H. (Joyce Ann) Specht, East Walnut Street, Lewistown, Mrs. Joseph (Mordine) Beers, Birch Drive, Lewistown, and Kim Hower, North Pine Street, Burnham; sisters and brothers, Mrs. Glenn (Helen) Hess, Saxton, David L. Fisher, Entriken, and Lee E. Fisher and Mrs. James (Shelby) Shoppe, both of Huntingdon; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney W. Hower in 1990, and a sister.

She was a homemaker and noted as a seamstress in the area for making slipcovers and quilts.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at Heller- Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Mr. Kurt L. McKinney Sr. officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
