MIFFLIN - Betty L. Ford, 78, of Mifflin, died at 7:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin HC-67. Born Nov. 7, 1922 in Milford Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Pearl H. (Hampton) Dunn. Her husband Harold W. "Dutch" Ford preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1995. Surviving are: her niece and caretaker, Brenda L. Taylor, Mifflintown RR3, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold A. "Andy" Ford in May 1967, and by a sister, Virginia (Jean) Walters on Dec. 2, 1961. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mifflin. She had served as a volunteer of the Juniata County Meals on Wheels. She retired in 1984 as an administrative secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Harrisburg. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. James Harper officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Locust Grove, HC-67 Box 7, Mifflin, PA 17058.
LEWISTOWN - Ruth M. Fowler, 94, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Kish Apartments, Lewistown, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at the home. Born Oct. 16, 1905, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late George and Sue (Deamer) Tomlinson. Her husband, Ralph C. Fowler, died in 1966. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William (Ann) Singleton, Lewistown; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two daughters, one son, one granddaughter, four brothers and three sisters. She had been employed by Arrow Shirt Factory for 24 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of Wesley Chapel, Lockport. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Juniata Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark S. Brower officiating. Family will provide all flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to the Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Cecil Darwin Frankhouser, 62, of 545 Summit Drive, Pleasant Acres, Lewistown, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000 in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1937 in Barrville, he was a son of the late A. Benton and Doris (Harlin) Frankhouser. His wife Carol (Wilson) Frankhouser, whom he married July 16, 1972, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Mark (Wanda) How, Esq., Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Michael J. (Annette) Columbo, Altoona, Douglas T. Frankhouser, Galviston, Texas and Cody M. Frankhouser at home; brothers and sisters, Maurice Frankhouser, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) White and Mrs. George (Joyce) Havice, all of Reedsville, Mrs. Roy (Brenda) Miller and Mrs. Jeffery (Carol) Walls, both of Lewistown, Sanford Frankhouser, Barrville and Nancy Frankhouser, Burnham; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dusty Ward, a step-daughter, Dana M. Shotsberger, in 1990 and by one brother, Norwood Frankhouser. He was an over-the-road truck driver employed by Teamsters Local No. 429, Reading, retiring in Aug. 1999 after 38 years of service. He attended Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown. He was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Roger R. Reese officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. REEDSVILLE - Virginia L. Freed, 83, of 28 S. Main St., Reedsville, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at her residence. Born April 30, 1917, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Boyd E. and Ella Grace (Wike) Dippery. Her husband, Henry Levi Freed, died July 31, 1993. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) North and Mrs. Eugene (Ruth Ann) Peters, both of Reedsville; sisters, Margaret Kline, Beaver Springs, June Miller, Michigan and Joan Breon, Barrville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers. She worked at G.C. Murphy Company, Lewistown and Mary's Hoagie Shop, Lewistown. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with minister Robert Cook officiating. Family will receive friends 6 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Lena Mae Frohm, 85, of 1915 US Highway 522 N., Lewistown, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000, at her residence. Born Dec. 9, 1914, in Madera, Clearfield County, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Christine H. (Obdenhoff) Bloom. Her husband, William H. Frohm, died in May of 1963. Surviving are: children, Elizabeth M. Yetter, 1907 US Highway 522 N., Lewistown and John Robert Frohm, 1236 Summit Road, McClure; a granddaughter, Betty Lou Burd of 1915 US Highway 522 N., Lewistown, whom she raised; brother and sisters, James Charles Bloom, Dover, N. H., Nadine Glenn, Clearwater, Fla., and Christine Watts, Lewistown; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Early in life, she was employed by the Arrow Division of Cluett-Peabody Co. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown and the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, with Karen McCracken officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. MIFFLINTOWN - Verna H. Fry, 70, of Mifflintown RR3, died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000, at her residence. Born Jan. 5, 1930, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Reeder) Hurrell. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carroll R. Larrimore and her second husband, Max L. Fry. Surviving are: a son, Ronald H. Hurrell, Mifflintown RR3; brother and sisters, Norman H. Hurrell, Dauphin, Maxine Camp, Brookline Manor, Nellie Fogleman and J. Hope Hurrell, both of East Waterford, Helen Imes, HC 67 Mifflin, and Janet Imes, Port Royal RR1; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. She was a retired nursing assistant at the Locust Grove Retirement Village and a member of Central Juniata EMS. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with the Rev. Harold N. Imes officiating. Interment will be in the East Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call from noon-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Richard B. Fultz, 78, of 323 S. Dorcas St., Lewistown, died at 7 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 2, 1921, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Stanley C. and Clara E. (Stuckey) Fultz. His first wife, Mary (Harmon) Fultz, preceded him in death. His second wife, Betty (Baker) Fultz, whom he married April 25, 1974, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. David (Dr. Mary Lou) Allred, Bethesda, Md.; sisters and brother, Mrs. Carl (Isabel) Paige, Port Royal, Lawrence Fultz, Granville, and Mrs. Thomas (Miriam) Burns, Spring Run. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Stuckey, who raised him. He was a 1940 graduate of Fayette High School and a 1990 graduate of Liberty Home Bible Institute, Lynchburg, Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 963rd Field Artillery Battalion from 1942-1945, participating in Normandy Beach, St. Lo., Rhine River, Luxemburg and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Service Medal with five bronze stars and the Jubilee of Liberty Medal from Normandy. Early in life, he delivered for Beaver Brothers Bakery, the Royal Dairy and Bell Laundry. He then was an inspector for B.F. Goodrich, Oaks. He was a member of the Milroy C&MA Church and attended the Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown. He was also a member of the VFW. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dr. Gregory K. Tyree officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Evangel Baptist Church, 375 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MOUNT UNION - Margaret R. "Peg" Gaff, 82, a resident of Brookline Manor Nursing Home, Mifflintown RR1, formerly of the Mount Union area, died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 at the nursing home. Born April 28, 1918 in Newton Hamilton, she was a daughter of the late David and Clara (Stengle) Beatty. Her husband Charles W. Gaff, whom she married Aug. 7, 1936 in Hagerstown, Md., preceded her in death on June 8, 1969. Surviving are: children, Bernard Gaff and John Gaff, both of Shelocta, and Darlene Park, McAlisterville RD2; half-brothers and half-sisters, Louella Ashcraft, Massilon, Ohio, Paul Pollock, Hershey, Ernest Pollock, McVeytown and Beulah Price, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Gaff, and by one sister and one brother, Bertha Knable and Roy Beatty. She attended the Beech Run School, Mapleton RD1. She was employed by Robin Footwear, L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing, and by Harbison-Walker Refractories, all of Mount Union. She enjoyed hunting and fishing. She was a member of Beech Run Church of the Brethren, Mapleton RD1. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bowman's Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton RD1, with the Rev. Charlie Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow the service. There will be no viewing or visitation. The Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, is in charge of arrangements.
