LEWISTOWN - George D. Goss, 83, of 625 Princeton St., Lewistown, died at 1:21 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born May 25, 1917, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Theodore and Prudence (Stumpff) Goss. His first wife, Anna (Cherry) Goss, died July 1, 1965; his second wife, Ruth L. Aurand Goss, died April 27, 1980; and his third wife, Irene Moist Goss, whom he married July 5, 1983, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Corbin, 20 Ridens Road, Lewistown and David W. Goss, 523 E. Walnut St., Lewistown; stepchildren, Harry Aurand, Reedsville, Barbara Kulp, Florida, Ronald Moist, McVeytown, and Robert Moist, Gettysburg; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He was a 1935 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was employed by the American Viscose Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown. He was also a long time member of the Burnham Lions Club and served as the treasurer of his graduating class in high school. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. MILROY - Robert V. Goss Sr., 71, of 118 Creek Lane, Milroy, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his residence. Born Oct. 23, 1928, in Shrader, he was the son of the late Samuel V. and Mary Jane (Kurtz) Goss. His wife, V. Arlene (Paules) Goss, whom he married Nov. 2, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: stepmother, Mary Ellen (Taylor) Goss, Leola; children, Robert V. Goss Jr., Burlington, N.J. and Robin A. Morgan, Winston Salem, N.C.; sister, Mrs. Kenneth A. (Hazel) Reed Jr., Milroy; half-sisters and half-brother, Helen Albright, Lebanon, Rosella McNitt, Reedsville, Dorothy Winegardner, Philadelphia, Sue Ellen Snyder, Jonestown, and Samuel Wayne Goss, Lancaster; and one grandson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and sailed to the South Pole with Admiral Bird on the USS Philippine Sea. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Grace Mines, Morgantown; Bethlehem Steel Quarry, Naginey; Faylor-Middlecreek Corporation; and Eastern Industries, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, Reedsville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, 99 Taylor Drive, Reedsville, with the Rev. Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville. GRANVILLE - Gladys G. Grassmyer, 81, of the Malta Home, Granville, formerly of Mattawana, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2000 at the Malta Home. Born Aug. 4, 1918 in Mattawana, she was a daughter of the late George A. and Elsie M. (Harshbarger) Grassmyer. Surviving are three nephews and two nieces. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by brothers, H. W. Grassmyer and Henry E. Grassmyer, and by sisters, Savilla Grassmyer and Wilhemina Harshbarger. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Fisherville, Va. She was an avid reader who enjoyed tatting and crocheting. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown with the Rev. M. Leon Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, McVeytown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Malta Home, PO Box E, Granville, Pa. 17029.
LEWISTOWN - William S. Gray, 85, formerly of South Main Street, Lewistown, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home. Born March 20, 1915, in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late James and Christine Gray. His wife, Ruth (Crookes) Gray, whom he married in 1945, survives. Also surviving are: children, Neal Gray, Huron, Ohio and Cheryl Betz, Rockville Center, NY; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers. He was a graduate of Cornell University and later received a Master's Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Union College. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, where he was a sonarman. He retired from Standard Steel in 1980 after 20 years of service, where he was manager of employee relations. He also had a radio program at WGY Radio Station in New York. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, where he was a choir member. He was also member and past president of the Lewistown Rotary Club, past president of the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Mifflin County Day Care Center, and a member of the Mifflin/Juniata United Way. In Schenectady, NY, he was choir director of the Methodist Church and a member of the Light Opera Company. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be private. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the First United Methodist Church Choir, North Dorcas Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
MCALISTERVILLE - Clair Snyder "CS" Graybill, 85, of McAlisterville, RR1, Juniata County, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, July 23, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 20,1914, in Richfield, Snyder County, he was the son of the late Ammon W. and Hannah (Snyder) Graybill. His wife, Florence M. (Leister) Graybill, whom he married May 30,1936, survives. Also surviving are: children, Donald L. Graybill and Dale E. Graybill, both of McAlisterville, and Mrs. Donald (Dianna K.) Spriggle, McAlisterville RR2; a sister, Pauline Stuck, HCR 63, Richfield; six grandchildren and five-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey M. Graybill on Aug. 13, 1982; four brothers, Lee, Jerome, Arthur, and William S. Graybill; three sisters, Pearl Wilt, Nellie Coleman and Grace Zeiders. He was educated at the Cherry Hill Grammar schoolhouse at West Perry Township, Snyder County. He served in the 1930s for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and did carpentry in his early years of employment. From 1937-1994, he established, owned and operated the Graybill's Poultry Farm & Hatchery at McAlisterville RR1. He was the original breeder of the L-300 White Leghorn Pullet. He was a member of Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2 and its Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a former superintendent of its Sunday school and had taught Sunday school classes. He was on the Advisory Board of the Juniata Valley Bank, McAlisterville and a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and selling in the egg room of the hatchery. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2, with Pastor Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery, Richfield. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills. MATTAWANA - Edith Elizabeth Groff, 77, of 1 Grassmyer Lane, Mattawana, formerly of Millmont, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born March 31, 1923, in Terre Hill, Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Jacob and Sarah Lucinda (Eby) Gehman. Her husband, Norman Myer Groff, whom she married March 24, 1945 in Lancaster, survives. Also surviving are: children, Galen Groff, Guatemala, Kenneth Groff, Millmont, Samuel Groff, Bamberg, SC, David N. Groff, Lewisburg, Mrs. N. Daryl (Sarah G.) Yoder, Mattawana, and J. Wesley Groff, Mount Pleasant Mills; sisters and brothers, Lucy Rudy, Lancaster, Grace Aungst, Port Trevorton, H. Jacob Gehman, Thompsontown, Lester E. Gehman, Manheim, and Martin Gehman, Atmore, Ala.; 27 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Gehman and John Gehman. She attended the Kantz Grade School. She was a well known self-employed baker for over 25 years, retiring in 1987. She also baked for Walnut Acres, Penns Creek for 25 years. She was an active member of the Strodes Mills Mennonite Church, Strodes Mills and was a former member of the Millmont Mennonite Church, Millmont. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Millmont Mennonite Church, Millmont, with Bishop Luke E. Martin, Lancaster County, Bishop Roy E. Longenecker and David L. Swartzentruber of the Millmont Mennonite Church officiating. Interment will be in the Millmont Mennonite Cemetery, Lewis Township, Union County. Family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the church. Flowers are to be omitted, but memorial contributions may be made to: the Millmont Mennonite Church, Millmont, PA 17845. The James L. LEWISTOWN - Frances W. Grove, 98, of 10 W. Hale St., Lewistown, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 17, 2000, at her residence. Born May 13, 1902, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Frances (Shimp) White. Her husband, Edward R. Grove, died June 2, 1983. Surviving are: children, Margaret "Peggy" Marks, 313 Kish St., Lewistown, M. Jean Grove, 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, and Barbara A. Voyles, 456 S. Juniata St., Lewistown; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and a daughter, Betty Frances Grove on Dec. 24, 1927. Early in life, she was a secretary for Standard Steel. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown; the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 30; the J.O.C. Sunday School Class; the Wesley Circle United Methodist Women; the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 283; served on the administrative board of First Methodist Church; was secretary of First Methodist Cemeteries from 1957 to 1990; served as Girl Scout leader and volunteered for Hemlock Council of Girl Scouts. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Karen L. McCachren, Diaconal Minister of Caring and the Rev. Richard W. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Patrick A. Guerrini, 85, of 2 Pine Park Drive, Lewistown, died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Feb. 6, 1915, in Rome, Italy, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rosa (Romani) Guerrini. His wife, Ruth May (Himes) Guerrini, whom he married Aug. 22, 1938, survives. Also surviving are: children, Roger M. Guerrini, Baltimore, Md., Steven K. Guerrini, Waynesboro, Va., Mrs. Park (Gail) Barner, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Kenneth (Diane) Shaeffer, Lewistown; a grandson whom he raised, Dale M. Guerrini, Sedalia, Mo.; brothers and sisters, Frank Guerrini, Lewistown, Americ Guerrini, Middleburg, William Guerrini, Bluebell, and Winifred Dean, Naples, Fla; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He was a machinist-repairman for Guerrini Vending, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lewistown and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Humanities Gift Donor. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Lawrence R. Coakley officiating.
