ELIZABETHTOWN - Paul A. Archibald, 87, a resident of the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown, formerly of 4410 US Highway 322, Reedsville, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, May 7, 1999, at the home.
Born June 26, 1911, in Methuen, Maine, he was the son of the late Irving M. and Elizabeth (Jowett) Archibald. His wife, Ellamay (Gaddis) Archibald, died July 2, 1998.
Surviving are: daughters, Janice Archibald, Camp Hill and Carol Crafa, New York; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert T. Archibald and two sisters.
He was a veteran, having served as a Major in the United Stated Army during World War II.
He was chief metallurgist and vice president of Standard Steel, Burnham. Earlier in life, he worked at U.S. Steel & Rio Grand Railroad in Denver, Col.
He was a member of the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Reedsville, the Lewistown Country Club, the Masonic Lodge 160, Middleburg, and the Elks Lodge 663, Lewistown. He was founder of A.S.T.M.-A.S.M.E.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Reedsville, with the Rev. Charles McGaha officiating. The memorial service will also honor his wife, the late Ellamay G. Archibald and commemorate what would have been their 65th wedding anniversary.
Interment will be private.
The Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
MCALISTERVILLE - Arthur E. "Bill" Ard, 73, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born April 1, 1926, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jennie (Bitner) Ard. His wife, Ruth L. (Amey) Ard, whom he married Aug. 16, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Lisa J. Ard, Enola; five sisters, Grace Shoffstall, Somerset, Virginia Haines, McAlisterville, Nancy Fleisher, Lewistown, Joyce Fox, Middletown, and Carole Reed, Milroy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Ard.
He served from 1944-1946 in the 311th Infantry, 78th Division of the United States Army during World War II.
He operated his own farm for seven years and continued limited farming throughout his life. He also worked as a laborer for Pennsylvania and Conrail Railroads in the Enola yards from 1947-1960 and then again from 1976 until his retirement in 1988. He was a steel hauler for Caplan Trucking, Steubenville, Ohio from 1963-1976. Following retirement, he drove truck for Rickenbaugh's Building Supply, McAlisterville.
He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Ronald E. Landis and the Rev. Donald W. Raffensperger officiating. Interment will be in Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville RR1.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m.

LEWISTOWN - Dorothy A. Arentz, 81, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of 217 1/2 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 4:12 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 17, 1917, in Yeagertown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Maben) Kuhns. Her husband, Harold L. Arentz of 217 1/2 Logan St., Lewistown, whom she married Dec. 19, 1964, survives.
Also surviving are: children, William R. Ritter, Tipton, Ind., Dottie L. Myers, 31 Big Ridge Road, Lewistown, Lee Michaels, Colorado Springs, Colo., Phyllis L. Moyer, 59 Woodlawn Ave., Milroy; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by five brothers and a son, Harold L. Arentz Jr., in 1987.
She was the manager of the Artley Dress Shop, retiring in 1979. Prior to that, she worked for the Diana Dress Shop and later as a department manager of the Jamesway Department Store.
She was Protestant by faith and a life member of the City Hook and Ladder Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville, with the Rev. Lenny Coates officiating. Interment will follow.
There will be no public viewing.

PORT ROYAL - Lee R. "Mike" Arentz, 86, of Port Royal RR1, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1913, in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Edgar H. and Mary (Kerstetter) Arentz. His wife, Mae N. (Hockenberry) Arentz, died Aug. 7, 1994.
Surviving are: children, Charles L. Arentz Sr., HC67, Mifflin, David H. Arentz, Lewistown RR3, and Mrs. Deryl (Dorothy) Stong, Port Royal, RR2; sisters, Mrs. Roy (Lucy) Hultzapple, Newport and Mrs. Wayne (Alma) Ewalt, Boalsburg; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin E. Stong on Aug, 6, 1991; four brothers and three sisters.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a retired farmer and painter.
He was a member of the Matamoras United Methodist Church, Port Royal RR1.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Frank J. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
BELLEVILLE - Kathleen W. Armitage, 87, of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, Md.
Born Aug. 28, 1912, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Bruce M. and Jessie D. (McCollum) Warner. Her husband, Albert Armitage, died in 1982.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Ann) Frees, Bethesda, Md.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
She attended Bucknell University, Lewisburg and received her RN degree from Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia.
She was a physician's nurse in Larchmont, N.Y., for 14 years, retiring in 1969. She also taught special education at Seventh Ward Elementary School, Lewistown.
She attended Lewistown Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Mifflin County Historical Society, past member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, and was active in the bloodmobile.
She was a talented quilter.
Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville.

CHICO, Calif. - Ann Canedy Armstrong, 72, of Chico, Calif., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Chico, Calif.
Born Oct. 17, 1927, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late John S. Canedy and Eleanor M. Canedy-Alexander.
Surviving are: children, Kevin M. Armstrong, Muncy, and Margy Anne Anderson, Chico, Calif.; sister, Marge Robinson, Harrisburg; and three grandchildren.
She graduated from Lewistown High School in 1944 and received her bachelor of science in physical education from the State University of Iowa.
She was a physical education teacher at Kishacoquillas High School; assistant professor of physical education at Wilson College, Chambersburg, from 1964-1978; and director of Recreation and Parks for the Borough of Shippensburg from 1978-1991.
She was at one time a member and choir director for St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown; a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Shippensburg; and a 40-plus year volunteer for the American Red Cross.
She enjoyed decorating doll houses and refinishing furniture.
Services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Shippensburg at a later date. Private interment will also be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal House, 206 E. Burd St., Shippensburg, PA 17257.

RICHFIELD - Pauline M. Arnold, 91, of Richfield RR1, formerly of 200 Highland Ave., Lewistown, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at her residence.
Born Feb. 11, 1908, in McClure, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Carrie (Spigelmyer) Baker. Her husband, Charles C. Arnold, died in 1985.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Ned (Sarah) Pheasant, Richfield; brother and sisters, Ned Baker, Perdix, Hulda Wright, Mrs. Carl (Rosaline) Boonie, and Mrs. Walter (Allegra) Spigelmyer, all of McClure; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, four brothers and a sister.
She was a homemaker and early in life she worked for the American Viscose Corporation.
She was a member of Samuel's United Church of Christ and attended Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewistown and the Adult Sunday School Class.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 20 Oak St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dean M. Bobb officiating. Interment will be in Samuel's Cemetery, McClure.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the church.

REEDSVILLE - Violet M. Ashbridge, 62, of 7620 Route 655, Reedsville, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 1999, at her home.
Born April 19, 1937, in Bannerville, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Nettie (Romig) Weader. Her husband, Budd F. Ashbridge, whom she married Dec. 24, 1959, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Charlotta Yetter, New Lancaster Valley, Milroy; a sister, Helen Knepp, McClure; and three grandchildren.
She was a 1955 graduate of McClure High School.
She was co-owner of the Dutch Country Inn, Reedsville.
She was a member of Bakers United Methodist Church, McClure.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dutch Country Inn, Reedsville, with Pastor L. Ed Moore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. 4th St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
