NORTHUMBERLAND - George I. "Bud" Atherton Jr., 77, of 457 Water St., Northumberland, died at 5:50 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at the Nottingham Village Nursing Center, Northumberland.
Born July 27, 1922, in Sunbury, he was the son of the late George I. and Hazel (Bingaman) Atherton Sr. His wife, Rhoda (Zong) Atherton, whom he married Dec. 11, 1944, survives.
Also surviving are: children, William G. Atherton, North East, Pa. and Mrs. Thomas (Georgia A.) Cordrey, Collegeville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John H. "Jack" Atherton in 1963.
He graduated from Northumberland High School in 1940.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Oak Leaf Cluster.
He retired in 1980 from the Pennsylvania Railroad at the Conway Yards, Conway, where he was employed as a shop superintendent for 16 years.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northumberland; the Northumberland Improvement Committee; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest 49, Sunbury; a 50-year member of the Eureka Lodge No. 404 F&AM, Northumberland; and a life member of the American Legion, Post 44, Northumberland. He was formerly a member of the Valley View Lutheran Church, where he had served on its church council.
He enjoyed photography, fishing, and hunting, and was an avid reader.
Services will be held 11 a.m Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northumberland, with the Rev. Dale F. Biesecker Jr. officiating. Interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion, Post 44, Northumberland.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 9 p.m. by the Eureka Lodge No. 404, F&AM, Northumberland.

LEWISTOWN - Gwin W. Ault, 94, a resident of Rolling Hills Manor, formerly of Ferguson Valley, Lewistown, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at the manor.
Born Oct. 6, 1905, in Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late MacMonagle and Elizabeth (Wilson) Ault. His wife, Mary E. (Oburn) Ault, died June 14, 1982.
Surviving are: children, Mrs. Joseph (Thelma) Stempien, Blossburg and Vivian Anderson, White Marsh, Md.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers.
He received a master's degree from Penn State University and a second master's degree from Shippensburg State University.
He was an elementary school teacher for the Mifflin County School District for 30 years. He also owned and operated Ault Oil Company, Belleville.
He was a member of the Ennisville United Methodist Church, Ennisville; member and past master of the Lewistown Lodge 203 F&AM; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Jaffa Temple, Altoona, and the Harrisburg Consistory.
A Masonic memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held at the Ennisville Cemetery, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating.

SAN FRANCISCO - John R. Auman, 44, of 201 Laguna St., No. 12, San Francisco, Calif., died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 21, 1954, in McClure, he was a son of Pearl R. Auman, McClure, and the late John E. Auman.
Also surviving are: brother and sisters, Dallas E. Auman, 2741 He Nis Ra Lane, Green Bay, Wis., Carol A. Morris, 29 Longview Dr., Mechanicsburg, Rebecca S. Wagner, 431 Summit Drive, Lewistown, and Ellen L. Knepp, 25 N. Brown St., McClure.
He was a 1972 graduate of West Snyder High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College and a master's degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
Early in life, he worked at Hershey Motor Lodge. E.F. Hutton and Merrill Lynch.
A private memorial service was held.
LEWISTOWN - David C. Aumiller, 75, of 1844 Middle Road, Lewistown, died at 10 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Nov. 10, 1924, in Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Donald and Evelyn (Brubaker) Aumiller. His wife, Phyllis (Goss) Aumiller of 1844 Middle Road, Lewistown, whom he married March 29, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Debra) Lundvall, 275 Loop Road, Lewistown, Mrs. Carl (Danna) Smith, 925 Riverview Lane, Lewistown and Drucilla C. Aumiller, Box 138-A Millmont RR2; and four grandchildren.
He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by brothers Howard "Jack" and Donald Aumiller Jr., and sisters, Margaret Hopewell, Pauline Reeder, Leah Norton and Earnestine Goss.
He was a sergeant in World War II, having served in the United States Army in the South Pacific.
Early in life he was employed at FMC Corporation, and he retired in 1981 from Standard Steel, Burnham.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be private at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. VFW Post No. 7011 will perform military graveside services.
There will be no public viewing.

LEWISTOWN - Frances L. Aurand, 56, of US Highway 522 South, Lewistown (Strodes Mills), died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born April 2, 1943, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Foster B. Smith and the late Flo E. (Helwig) Smith Singer. Her husband, Richard D. Aurand, survives.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jay Singer.
She was a graduate of Juniata High School.
She was a homemaker.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating.
There will be no public viewing.

MECHANICSBURG - Rusty S. Aurand, 30, of Mechanicsburg, died Sunday Oct. 31, 1999, as a result of a hit and run vehicle accident in Mechanicsburg.
Born July 25, 1969, in Lewistown, he was a son of Timothy L. and Kathy (Aurand) Moyle of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Also surviving are maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Aurand, Mifflintown and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Moyle, Lewistown RR2.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gloria L. Aurand.
He was a 1988 graduate of Lewistown High School.
He was employed at the Mechanicsburg Navy Base.
He was a member of the Labor International Union of North America Local 1170 and a former member of Shrader United Methodist Church, Milroy.
A memorial service will be held today at the residence of his uncle, Ed Aurand, Good Hope Road, Mechanicsburg.
There will be no public viewing.

LANDENBERG - Wynnewood E. Bachman, 58, 16 Hoopes Drive, Landenberg, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999.
Born in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Phares and Bertha (Brower) Bachman. His wife of 35 years, Sylvia (Schiefferle) Bachman, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Todd Bachman, at home, Timothy Bachman, Landenberg, and Laura Bachman, Wilmington, Del.; brothers and sisters, Phares Bachman, Lewistown, Stanley L. Bachman, Alvin, Texas, Arlene Thompson, Leesburg, Va., and Linda Green, Ottawa, Ill.; and one granddaughter.
He was a 1959 graduate of Lewistown High School, where he was a member of the track team, band, student council, and was class treasurer. He was also a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and Bucknell University.
He worked for DuPont for 31 years and for DuPont Dow Elastomer for three years.

BELLEVILLE - Arthur A. "Art" Bailey, 72, of 228 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, formerly of Lewistown, died at 6:32 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 2, 1927, in Patton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Gobert) Bailey. His wife, Helen L. (McClellan) Bailey, whom he married Sept. 8, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Diana L. Bailey, Hampton, Va., Mrs. Gary (Donna) Schwenzer, Yardley, James A. Bailey, McClure, and Mrs. Michael (Pamela) Kanady, Port Matilda; sister, Mrs. Elnora Hockenberry, Dry Run; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha Kirkpatrick, Ida Wise, Margaret Bailey and Leona Soles, and a brother, Joseph Bailey.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a salesman for Lewistown Cabinet Co. and he retired from Standard Steel in 1991 after 17 years as a carpenter.
He was a member of Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he had served as a treasurer, elder, Sunday school superintendent, and taught the Beacon Sunday School Class.
He was an avid hunter and gardener and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, with the Rev. John T. Looney and the Rev. Erie Renno officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.
