YEAGERTOWN - Bonnie K. Gussler, 55, of Beverly Healthcare William Penn, formerly of 100 S. Mann Ave., Yeagertown, died at 4:25 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000 at Beverly Healthcare William Penn, Lewistown. Born June 14, 1945 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Sara (Gross) and William A. Gussler Jr. Surviving is a sister, Barbara A. Barker, 100 S. Mann Ave., Yeagertown. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Lou Gussler, on July 12, 1999, and also by a brother. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 810 Seventh Ave., New York, NY 10019.
PORT ROYAL - Earl F. "Brother" Hack Jr., 75, of Port Royal RR2, (Academia) died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at his home. Born August 21, 1925, in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Earl F. and Jean M. (McBurney) Hack, Sr. Surviving are: children, Earl F. Hack, III, Bradenton, Fla. and Beth Blade, Cheyenne, Wyoming; brother and sisters, Robert G. Hack, Mifflintown RR3, Catherine H. Smith, Mechanicsburg, Betty H. Barton, Mifflintown RR5; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He was a 1943 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown. He was a graduate of Holy Cross University and received his Master's Degree from the University of Miami, Fla. He was a member of the Mexico Presbyterian Church, Mexico. He retired with 23 years of service as a math teacher from the Dade County School District, Florida. He was a U.S. Naval Veteran of WWII where he served on the USS Maddox, and also served in the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Mexico Presbyterian Church, Mexico, with the Rev. James Cranston officiating. Burial will be in the Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4. The Juniata County Veterans Council will provide full military burial honors. There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church. Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown is in charge of the arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Evelyn E. Hackenberry, 78, of 324 N. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 12:02 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown. Born Jan. 29, 1922, in Castanea, she was a daughter of the late Floyd F. Shook and Norma E. (Young) Prough, and a step-father, the late George E. Prough. Her husband, Leroy O. Hackenberry, preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1990. Surviving are: a son, David L. Hackenberry of Florida; a brother, the Rev. Floyd F. Shook Jr., Columbus, Ohio; half-brothers, Robert E. Prough, Centre Hall, and James F. Prough, Lock Haven; and a grandson. She was a homemaker. She attended Evangelders at Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Charles W. Hackett, 74, a resident of the Malta Home for the Aging, Granville, formerly of 184 N. River Road, Lewistown, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at the Malta Home. Born April 13, 1926, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Gilbert and Viola (Henninger) Hackett. His first wife, Helen (Griffith) Hackett, preceded him in death; his second wife, Dorothy (Royer) Stong, survives. Also surviving are: stepchildren, Harry J. Stong, Lewistown and Mona Zyonoski, McClure; brothers and sisters, William D. Hackett, Lumberton, NC, Frank R. Hackett and Helen Lyter, both of Belleville, and Mary V. Wagner, Dry Valley Road, Lewistown. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Hackett and Fay Hackett, and a sister, Marion Dovci. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed as a custodian for the Social Security Administration Building. He was a member of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2001 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA 17102.
LEWISTOWN - Violet E. Hackett, 80, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of Lewistown, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Valley View Haven. Born Feb. 29, 1920 in Reedsville, she was a daughter of the late Fannie (Stoner) and Samuel T. Alexander. Her husband Robert Earl Hackett preceded her in death on June 29, 1985. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Douglas (Betty) Stuck, Belleville, Jeannette Sheaffer, Enola, Mrs. Blaine (Jackie) Narehood, Longfellow, Samuel Hackett, McClure and Robert E. Hackett Jr., Florida; a brother, Marvin Jack Alexander, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Jean, and by a grandson, Bret Samuel Sheaffer. She retired in 1985 after being a shipping clerk for J.P. Stevens in Lumberton, NC. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown. Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Valley View Chapel, Belleville with the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery, Lumberton, NC. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Haven, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Vivian Ethel Hamor, 79, of 2880 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, Fla., died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, Fla. Born March 5, 1921, in McAlisterville, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lulu G. (Spitler) Newman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Thomas Hamor, in 1967 Surviving are: children, Jim Hamor, Indialantic, Fla., Curt Hamor, West Melbourne, Fla., Cheri Pashegoba, Murphy, N.C., and Sandy Hamor, Melbourne, Fla.; brothers and sisters, Eugene, Beatrice, Maxine, Vernin, Romane and Arden; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker. Private cremation was held at South Brevard Funeral Home, 1001 S. Hickory St., Melbourne, Fla.
YORK - Donald W. Hannon, 68, of 1303 Popular St., York, died at 11:21 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at York Hospital. Born Dec. 12, 1932, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Herbert Sr. and Stella (Shingler) Hannon. He is survived by a companion, Patricia Senft. Also surviving are: two children; brothers and sister, Herbert E. Hannon Jr., and Ronald E. Hannon, both of York and Mrs. George (June) Decker, Bellefonte. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He served in the United States Army. He was a machinist for PMC in Ohio. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ronald E. Berrus officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
HUNTINGDON - Archie William Harpster, 86, of Huntingdon RR2, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown. Born Sept. 13, 1914, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Lucy (Thomas) Harpster. His wife, Florence (Wilson) Harpster, whom he married July 8, 1939, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Walter L. Harpster, 4822 Old Stage Road, McClure; sisters and brothers, Marian Treaster and Glen Harpster, both of Lewistown, Esther Wheeler, Camp Hill, and Thomas Harpster, Burnham; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Max Harpster. He was an assistant sales manager at Standard Steel, retiring in 1974 with 43 years of service. He was a member of Park View Church of the Brethren; a former scout master of Troop 8, Burnham; member and past president of the McAlevy's Fort Civic Club. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Park View Church of the Brethren, Parcheytown Road, Lewistown, with the Rev. Kenneth Wagner and the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to Park View Church of the Brethren, c/o Isabelle Snyder, 1900 Valley View Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044 or Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W.
