Mary Ethel 'Ettie' Petrie
YEAGERTOWN - Mary Ethel "Ettie" Petrie, 77, of 50 S. Mann Ave., Yeagertown, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born Feb. 27, 1922, in Yeagertown, she was a daughter of the late David I. and Margaret (Aumiller) Rowe. Her husband, John L. Petrie, died Nov. 8, 1987.

Surviving are: children, Leslie D. Petrie, Camp Hill, Jonathan L. Petrie, Potomac, Md., Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Davis, 210 Betty Circle, Reedsville, and Mrs. Stephen (Ethel) Zeigler, 120 Hillside Drive, Reedsville; sister and brother, Mrs. Guy (Alva) Shirk, Bonnie Lane, Reedsville, and David L. Rowe, Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, David R. Petrie, Jan. 9, 1998, and by an infant son.

She was a 1939 graduate of Yeagertown High School and a 1942 graduate of Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a retired registered nurse.

She was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of Sunday school Class 6, superintendent of the children's department and Bible school. She was also a member, past president, past treasurer and director of the Mifflin County Republican Women of Action and served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Katie M. Pheasant
LEWISTOWN - Katie M. Pheasant, 92, a resident of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of McClure, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at the manor.

Born Jan. 23, 1907, in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Reuben Soloman and Amanda Rebecca (Rager) Romig. Her husband, John Henry "Kidney" Pheasant, whom she married Aug. 23, 1942, died in 1977.

Surviving are: sons, Clifford L. S. Romig, Elizabethtown, and Jack R. Pheasant, McClure; sister and brother, Dorothy Romig, McClure RR1, and Albert Romig, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Effie Bowersox, Minnie Wagner, Lottie Shawver, Hurley Romig and Calvin Romig.

She worked as a button seamstress for Kirby Manufacturing, McClure, for 28 years and at American Viscose for 17 years.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure, and a member of the ladies auxiliary of the American Legion Post 942.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the McClure chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes Inc., North Brown Street, McClure, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in McClure Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m.

Robert A. Pheasant
MCCLURE - Robert A. Pheasant, 81, of McClure died at 7:10 p.m. Monday, July 12, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born Feb. 4, 1918, in McClure, he was the son of the late Zachariah Harry and Nettie (Delong) Pheasant. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy (Rigel) Pheasant, in 1945 and by his second wife, Pauline (Lepley) Pheasant, in 1985.

Surviving are: a daughter, Gloria Hayden, Austin, Texas; four sons, Andy Pheasant, El Cajon, Calif., Dave Pheasant, Beavertown; Mark Pheasant, Beaver Springs, and Duane Pheasant, McClure; a stepson, Dale Bishop, Beaver Springs RR1; two sisters, Margaret Weader, McClure RR2, and Joan Hess, McClure; five brothers, Monroe Pheasant, McClure, James Pheasant, Overlook, Jack Pheasant, Herndon, Ned Pheasant, Richfield and Dennis Pheasant, Selinsgrove; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Pheasant, in 1972; a grandson, Eric. D. Pheasant in 1990; and a brother, Charles Pheasant.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure.

He retired in 1984 after being a planer for many years. He had also worked in the former Beavertown Weaving Mill and was a self-employed carpenter.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.

A service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles A. Brophy officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Thursday in the McClure chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes Inc., North Brown Street, McClure, where family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.

Jeffrey E. Phillips Jr.
LEWISTOWN - Jeffrey E. Phillips Jr., 29, 45 Hawstone Road, Lewistown, died of natural causes at 12:29 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1970, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of Viola M. (Heimbach) and Jeffrey E. Phillips Sr., 45 Hawstone Road, Lewistown.

Also surviving are: brothers, Brian K. Phillips, Lewistown and David K. Phillips, Mifflin; paternal grandfather, Richard E. Phillips Mifflintown RR1; maternal grandmother, Ida Heimbach, Lewistown; three nieces and one nephew.

He was a 1991 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Louella E. Phillips
HONEY GROVE - Louella E. Phillips, 83, a resident of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, died at 7:25 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at the home.

Born July 4, 1916, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Samuel M. and Mary (Adams) Benner Sr. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell E. Reynolds, in September 1941, and her second husband, Earl A. Phillips, Jan.12, 1979.

Surviving are:a daughter, Dolores Love, East Waterford; brothers and sisters, Samuel M. Benner Jr, Mifflintown, the Rev. Wilbur W. Benner, Greencastle, Reba Holley, Elizabethtown, and Evelyn M. Davis, Thompsontown; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

She was a seamstress and had retired from Juniata Garments, Mifflin.

She was a member of Arch Rock Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Arch Rock United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown.

Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove and at from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.

Madeline E. Phillips
LEWISTOWN - Madeline E. Phillips, 82, of 705 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Nov. 15, 1916, in Belltown, she was a daughter of the late Arthur H. and Ruth (Morgan) Hoffman. Her husband, George R. Phillips, 705 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Barbara Bubb, Fairless Hills, Joan R. Gutshall, 2140 Vira Road, Lewistown, and James A. Klinger and Helen N. Phillips, both of 705 W. Fourth Street, Lewistown; a sister, Betty Moyer, New Carlisle, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Max Hoffman, and two infant sisters.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace Covenant Church, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Michael S. Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Leslie B. Pierce Jr.
LEWISTOWN - Leslie B. Pierce, Jr., 52, of 146 Delaware Ave., Lewistown, died Wednesday evening March 3, 1999, as a result of a boating incident on the Juniata River.

Born Nov. 15, 1946, in Lewistown, he was the son of Blair L. Pierce, 303 Terrace Blvd. and the late Mary (Bachman) Pierce. His wife, Cheryl A. (Buffington) Pierce, whom he married Dec. 17, 1966, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Christine L. Pierce, 27 1/2 W. Third St., Lewistown and Matthew A. Pierce, at home; and a sister, Colleen Y. Pierce, 303 Terrace Blvd., Lewistown.

He had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Early in life, he worked for Fisher Electronics and was a foreman for the American Viscose Corporation, Avtex Fibers and Lewistown Specialty Yarns. He was currently employed by Standard Steel, Burnham in the AFM department.

He was a member of the Mifflin County Sportsman's Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also active in the stocking program for the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission and he coached Little League Baseball.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gregory T. Allen officiating.

Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may he made to: the Fellowship Baptist Church, 22 Windmill Hill Road, Burnham, PA 17009 or to the McVeytown Fire Co., McVeytown, PA 17051.

Grace E. Polan
MIDDLEBURG - Grace E. Polan, 77, of Paxtonvillle Road, Middleburg, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2000, at her home.

Born July 19, 1922, in Jackson Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Merritt and Blanche (Steffen) Seebold. Her husband, Charles H. Polan, whom she married on Feb. 4, 1942, died Oct. 24, 1990.

Survived are: a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Connie) Kratzer, Paxtonville; a son, Terry W. Polan, Middleburg RR2; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Kratzer, in 1996.

She was a homemaker and last employed by Blough and Wagner, Middleburg.

She enjoyed embroidery, reading and her grandchildren.

She was a member of Paxtonville United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Paxtonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 West Market Street, Beavertown, where family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.
