MCVEYTOWN - Esther E. Harshbarger, 80, of Meadowview Manor, McVeytown, formerly of Newton Hamilton, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Altoona Hospital. Born Nov. 25, 1919, in Mapleton Depot, she was the daughter of the late Moses F. and L. Ruth (Williams) Moist. Her husband, Bruce D. Harshbarger, whom she married Aug. 16, 1944, died Dec. 10, 1973. Surviving are: a son, Ronald B. Harshbarger, Ryde; four brothers, Chester F. Moist, Mount Union RR, James E. Moist, Tyrone RR, Lester R. Moist, Elizabethtown, and Moses F. Moist, Mapleton Depot; three granddaughters, three great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles F. Moist and John E. Moist, and an infant sister, Margaret Jane Moist. She was employed at Owens Corning Fiberglass, Huntingdon, retiring in 1972 with 21 years of service. She was a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working word puzzles. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment will be in the Newton Hamilton Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.
GRANVILLE - Freeda I. Harshbarger, 88, of the Malta Home, Granville, formerly of Ryde, died at 2:42 p.m.Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 8, 1912 in Ryde, she was a daughter of the late Edward A. and Susan (Jenkins) Harshbarger. Surviving are: a nephew, whom she raised, Clair Shawver, and a number of other nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Albert Harshbarger, and three sisters, Lorma Kritzer, Gladys Hess and Viola Beard. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Ryde United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing, hunting and fishing. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ryde United Methodist Church, with Pastor Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Ryde Cemetery, McVeytown RD. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ryde United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Pastor Phyllis Hunter, PO Box 337, Newton Hamilton, PA 17075. Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. MCVEYTOWN - Phyllis J. "Phyl" Harshbarger, 71, of 247 Ryde Road, McVeytown, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 4, 1929, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Roy and Rosa Ethel (Kimberly) Foust. Her husband, Clarence E. "Ducky" Harshbarger, whom she married Sept. 17, 1947, survives. Also surviving are: children, Richard L. Harshbarger, Newton Hamilton, Marlene J. Tennis, Mountville, Mrs. Calvin J. (Darlene) Moist, Ryde Road, McVeytown, Dennis R. Harshbarger and Mrs. Rodger (Julia L.) Dunmire, both of Mount Union; brothers, Wilbur K. Foust, Ohio, Marshall R. Foust and James R. Foust, both of McVeytown RR1, and Robert L. Foust, Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Melba James, Lester A. Foust, Fay Buchanan, and Ruth Foust. She attended Rothrock High School, McVeytown. She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith. She was a member of the Juniata Association for the Blind. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Stephen Motter officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.
RYDE - Ronald B. Harshbarger, 54, of SR 103 S., Ryde, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his home. Born Aug. 15, 1946, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Bruce D. and Esther E. (Moist) Harshbarger. His wife, Donna K. (Parsons) Harshbarger, whom he married July 1, 1967, survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Tammy) Jury and Mrs. Kenny (Bonnie) Knable, both of Newton Hamilton, and Mrs. Danny (Patricia) Snyder, Mifflintown; three granddaughters and three grandsons. He was a 1964 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union. He was a group leader at Marlette Homes, Lewistown, from 1964 to 1980 and was currently employed in the HPC Assembly Department of FCI Electronics, Mount Union. He was a member of the Ryde United Methodist Church; the McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM; the Valley of Harrisburg Consistory; and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 88, Mifflintown. He was a former member of the Newton-Wayne Lions Club and both the Newton-Wayne and Mapleton Sportsmen's Clubs. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting at the Big Rock Annex Hunting Camp, Ryde. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Ryde Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be conducted by the McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM. Memorial contributions my be made to: Sun Home Hospice, 2 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Jeanne K. Hartman, 85, of Hickory Hollow, Lewistown, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at her residence. Born Feb. 15, 1915, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brenneman. Surviving are: children, Marshall L. Hartman, Patricia J. Taylor, V. Michael Hartman, and Cindy Glick, all of Lewistown; a sister, Helen K. Woolheater, Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was former owner of Dependable Dry Cleaners and was office manager at Van's Motors for 40 years. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing. Family will provide all flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, RR1, Centre Hall, PA 16828. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
MEADVILLE - Omah B. Hartman, 92, of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, formerly of 661 N. Morgan St., Meadville, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Meadville Medical Center. Born Sept. 28, 1908, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Frank and Emma (Linthurst) Hartman. His wife, Imogene (Hofmann) Hartman, whom he married Sept. 16, 1935, died March 27, 1986. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Bowser, Meadville, and Mrs. Jerry (Bonnie) Pryber, Erie; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Howard Hartman; and two sisters, Frances Fink and Grace Mateer. He was a 1923 graduate of Yeagertown High School where he participated in numerous sports , and was considered an outstanding athlete. He retired as a foreman of the American Viscose Plant, Meadville, after 45 years of service. He was an active member of Stone United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and participated in its Men's Bible Class and served on various committees. He was also active with the Boy Scout program for many years; enjoyed bowling; had served as a Republican committeeman; had been a volunteer at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community; and had been a caregiver to many people over the years. Services were held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, with the Rev. Paul R. Borneman Jr. officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville. Memorial contributions may be made to Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335 or to charity of one's choice.
UPPER DARBY - Clark B. "Punch" Hartsock, 86, of Upper Darby, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at his residence. Born April 1, 1914, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Walter and Bertha Hartsock. His wife, June (Eisenhart) Hartsock, whom he married in 1941, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Bruce Hartsock, Upper Darby; two sisters, Betty and Louise; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. He served in the United States Army for four years. He worked for 30 years at Boeing Vertol in Springfield, Delaware County. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church, 58th & Chester Avenue, Philadelphia. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to: the New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church, 58th & Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143. The Stuard Funeral Home, Ardmore, is in charge of arrangements.
BELLEVILLE - Leroy J. Hartzler, 90, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of Belleville, died at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Valley View. Born July 26, 1910, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and Bertha (Stolzfus) Hartzler. His wife, Sadie (Kauffman) Hartzler, whom he married Sept. 2, 1934, died April 6, 1977. Surviving are: children, Lee M. Hartzler, Belleville, Kenneth J. Hartzler, Newton, Kan., and Mrs. Frank (Kathy) Chambers, Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Cora) Yoder, Belleville; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lester Hartzler on April 3, 1989; a sister, Mrs. Lester (Amanda) Zook; and brothers, Jesse Hartzler, Thomas Hartzler, Raymond Hartzler, Paul Hartzler, and Jefferson Hartzler. He was a dairy farmer and a truck driver for D.K. Hostetler. He was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church and the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Max Hook and the Rev. Erie Renno officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 6:30-9 p.m. today at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the church.
