Born July 8, l932, in Port Royal, Juniata County, he was a son of Anna J. (Dunn) Schlegel, Mifflintown and the late Ralph W. Schlegel. His wife, Shirley H. (Hockenberry) Schlegel, whom he married on June 28, 1959, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Carl L. Schlegel, Jr., Mifflintown; brothers, Robert M. Schlegel, Mifflintown and Gerald E. Schlegel, Mexico; sisters, Doris Stoner, Dillsburg, Mona Jury, Mifflintown RR5, and Donna Fogleman, Mechanicsburg; and two grandchildren.
He was a 1951 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.
He served with the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.
Earlier in life, he had owned and operated Schlegel's Atlantic/Arco Station on old Route 322, Mifflintown. He retired as an auto technician from Mertz Ford, McAlisterville,with 15 years of service.
He had attended the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown and was a life member of the Mifflintown Hose Company No. 1.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Corner of Third & Orange Streets, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown RR4.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

The Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, is in charge of the arrangements.
Laura M. Schlegel
Born Sept. 30, 1908, in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Pearl (Myers) Lukens. Her husband, Marlin W. Schlegel, whom she married Oct. 9, 1937, preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1989.
She is the last of her immediate family, survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Myers Lukens, Harold Lukens, Marie Brubaker and Emily Kauffman.
She was retired from Rae Sel Garment Factory, Port Royal, where she worked as a seamstress. She worked previously at the East Salem Shirt Factory.
She was a member of the Thompsontown United Methodist Church.
She was an avid shopper.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Maureen Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1.
There will be no viewing.

George Jack Schrock
He was born on Aug. 17, 1926 in Moss Creek, Pa. His wife of 38 years, Shirley Schrock of Clearlake, Calif., survives.
Also surviving are: children, Dan Hammitt, Grass Valley, Calif., Susan Hammitt, Walunt Creek, Calif., and Karen Royce, Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a sister, Mercy Wagner, Lewistown; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was a United States Army veteran, having served from 1944-1946 and from 1948-1952.
He was employed as a mechanic and driver for Fremont Unified School District.
He was a member of the Clearlake Oaks, Calif., Moose Lodge N. 2284, and also a member of First Baptist Church, Clearlake, Calif.
He was an avid bowler and loved baseball and football.
Cremation was by Lake County Memorial Crematory, Lakeport, Calif. and inurnment was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church Restoration Fund, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
Jones and Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 284, 16140 Main St., Lower Lake, Calif., was in charge of arrangements.
John L. 'Jack' Schwartz
Born June 23, 1919, in Monessen, he was the son of the late Phillip John and Pauline (Ellisher) Schwartz. His wife, Joyce (Goodale) Schwartz, survives.
Also surviving are: children, John C. Schwartz, Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Kim (Kathryn) DeMeulemeester, Vero Beach, Fla., and Mary Jo Wholihan, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Monessen High School and the University of California, Pa.
He was a schoolteacher for Carlisle, Franklin Township and Bristol schools. During the war, he was an instructor at the naval base in Norman, Okla. He also worked for Glen L. Martin in Maryland, Bristol Engineering, and retired as manager of design and drafting from General Electric in Philadelphia.
He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in New Cumberland, the Knights of Columbus in Bristol, the New Cumberland Fishing Club, and the Squires of Bucks Barber Shop Chorus.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in New Cumberland. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

Katelyn Marie Seachrist
Born Dec. 17, 1995, at Huntingdon, she was a daughter of Jay and Karen (Nycum) Seachrist of HC 83, Shade Gap.
She is survived by: maternal grandparents, Donald and Daisy Nycum, McConnellsburg; paternal grandmother, Barbara Seachrist, Mifflin; sister, Brittany Seachrist, at home, and brother, Daniel Seachrist, at home.
Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, 1999, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Tom Maurer officiating. Interment will be made in the Saltillo Cemetery.
Family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Jack 'Jackie' H. Searer
Born April 29, 1944, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Glenn O. Searer Sr. and Margaret (Miller) Searer. His companion, Shirley A. Rosensteel, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Jackie Ann Searer, home; brothers and sisters, Mrs. George (Peg) Plank, Lewistown, Mrs. Charles (Susan) Royer, Lewistown, Mrs. Blair (Patricia) Rose, Lewistown, Glenn O. Searer Jr., Yeagertown, and Kenneth L. Searer, McClure.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris A. Hall.
He was a self-employed plumber for 18 years. In 1980 he retired from truck driving because of a disability.
He was a life member of the Brooklyn Hose Company, Junction Fire Company and East Derry Fire Company.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing.
Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery.
The Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, Pa. 16601.
Catherine E. Searer
Born Oct. 12, 1908, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Willliam C. and Bertha (Hamaker) Matter. Her husband, Robert D. Searer of Rising Sun, Md., whom she married Feb. 28, 1928, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Lucille R. Forrest, Havre deGrace, Md.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Matter.
She was an office employee for Standard Steel, Burnham for 17 years, retiring in 1968.
She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating.
Family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: Evangel Baptist Church, 375 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Mae Searer
Born Sept. 24, 1913, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late James M. and Claudia K. (Bigelow) Lepley. Her husband, Hobert E. Searer, preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1984.
Surviving are: daughter, Mrs. Amund (Constance) Moen, Lewistown; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Lester Lepley, and a son, James Hobert Searer.
She was a homemaker.
She was a charter member of Calvary Bible Church, and the former superintendent of the junior department of the Sunday school. She was also a former member of the Missions Board of the church. She was a WCTU and child evangelism teacher for many years.
She was a member of the Loyal Ladies Bible Class and a former member of the Ladies Missionary Society.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Roger Reece officiating.
Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
Family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Dementia Unit of Ohesson Manor, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.

THOMPSONTOWN - Laura M. Schlegel, 90, a resident of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin, and formerly of Thompsontown, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 1999, at the retirement village.
CLEARLAKE, Calif. - George Jack Schrock, 73, a resident of Clearlake, Calif., and formerly of Fremont, Calif., died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Redbud Hospital, Clearlake, Calif.
NEW CUMBERLAND - John L. "Jack" Schwartz, 80, of New Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his home.
SHADE GAP - Katelyn Marie Seachrist, 3, of HC 83, Shade Gap, died 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Her death was a result of accidental drowning.
LEWISTOWN - Jack "Jackie" H. Searer, 55, of 537 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, died at 8:01 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.
HAVER DEGRACE, Md. - Catherine E. Searer, 91, of 105 Hutchins Court, Haver deGrace, Md., formerly of West Fifth Street, Lewistown, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Calvert Manor Health Care Center, Rising Sun, Md.
LEWISTOWN - Dorothy Mae Searer, 85, formerly of 14 Spanogle Ave., Lewistown, and also 416 Bridge St., Lewistown, died at 4:20 p.m. July 5, 1999, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown.
