Born March 31, 1905, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Richard L. and Edith (Parker) Jackson Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman S. Searer.
She is survived by a nephew, Daniel L. Powell, Harrisburg, with whom she lived; brother and sister, Kenneth J. Powell, Lewistown, and Dorothy Force, Baltimore, Md.
She served as the tax collector for the borough of Lewistown until she was 78 years old.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Ruth I. Searer
Born April 8, 1907, in Danville, she was a daughter of the late William Montgomery and Bertha (Vangilder) Knarr. Her husband, Russell F. Searer, died Oct. 28, 1983.
Surviving are: children, Mrs. Bruce (Dolores) Long, Strodes Mills, and Terry Lee "Butch" Searer, 7873 US Highway 522S, McVeytown; sisters and brother, Lucille Bell, Geneva, Ohio, Frances Haas, Danville, Cordelia Rush, Granville, and Robert Knarr, Mifflinburg; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Early in life, she worked for the American Viscose Corporation of FMC and was last employed by the Mifflin County School District as a cook in the cafeteria.
She was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

John W. Seebold
Born March 26, 1924 in Jackson Township, Snyder County, he was a son of the late Paul and Mary Catherine (Steese) Seebold. His wife Arla Mae (Aumiller) Seebold, whom he married March 24, 1943, preceded him in death on October 28, 1996.
Surviving are a son and daughters, John D. Seebold, Marian Zechman and Joanne Hackenberg, all of Troxelville, a sister, Katherine Mae Zieber of Beavertown RR1, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson in 1961, and a sister, Ruth Elizabeth Crouse.
He farmed all his life in Troxelville.
He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Troxelville. He was also a member of the Tiger Rod and Gun Club, the West Snyder Young Farmers and the Pennsylvania Farmers Association.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and also enjoyed hunting.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Church of Christ, Troxelville with the Rev. Paul Zieber and the Rev. Nancy Moyer officiating. Interment will be in Troxelville Union Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at the Beavertown Chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes Inc., 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with family present from 7-9 p.m.

John L. Seiler
Born Dec. 2, 1917, in Myersdale, he was the son of the late Peter R. and Julia (May) Seiler.
Surviving are: sisters and brothers, Margaret Carper, Tennessee, Emma Conley, Mifflinburg, Beatrice Stains, Charles Seiler, and Mrs. Charles E. (Julia) Butler, all of Lewistown.
He was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters.
He was a retired sergeant major of the United States Marine Corps.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 663 and was an avid boxer in the Lewistown area.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Peter Seiler officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown.
Charles R. 'Dick' Sellers
Born Oct. 9, 1923, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Jay Bryan and Mabel (Rippman) Sellers, who died Dec. 8, 1996. His wife, Jean (Fetterolf) Sellers, died May 9, 1992.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Grayshaw, Bryn Mawr.
He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three sisters.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He owned and operated Sellers Grocery Store on Valley Street, Lewistown, retiring in 1987.
Graveside services will be private and at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Dean M. Bobb officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing.

The Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
Mary J. Settle
Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Legionair, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Chester David and Carrie (Moist) Adams. Her husband, George I. Settle, died Dec. 26, 1944.
Surviving are: children, Anna M. Silks, 412 N. Logan Boulevard, Burnham, William E. Settle, 1441 N. River Road, Granville, Delores I. Baxter, 4785 Route 103 North, Lewistown, Merril Settle, Klondyke Drive, Lewistown, and James E. Settle, Juniata Street, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Sue Collage, Ohesson Manor, Miles C. Adams, Betsy Fisher, and Richard Adams, all of Mattawana, Grace Mizerek, Covina, Calif., Florence Weaver, Juniata Terrace, and Melvin Adams, McVeytown; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Sandra in 1944, Sara in 1987, and George F. Settle Sr. on May 14, 1995; a grandson, Dennis, in 1961; three sisters and one stepbrother.
She was a homemaker.
She attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Juniata Terrace.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

John A. Shade
Born Aug. 27, 1933, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Florence E. (Gray) Shade. His wife, Thelma I. (Harshbarger) Shade, whom he married in 1962, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Sharon Beaver, Mount Union, Rebecca Ritter, Rachel Harkleroad, and Joe Shade, all of Lewistown; a sister, Melba Persing, Marysville; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
He was a farmer for Masonic Home in Elizabethtown and he worked for Harbison Walker Brick Yard in Mount Union.
He was a member of the Vira United Methodist Church and the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Theodore Janke officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Mifflin/Juniata American Cancer Society, 112 N. Wayne St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
Larry Lee Shaffer
Born April 15, 1949, in Sunbury, he was a son of Robert E. and Florence M. (Holtzapple) Shaffer of Freeburg. His wife, Sandra Lee (Leitzel) Shaffer, whom he married on June 13, 1976, survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Jimmy A. Shaffer of Moore, Okla.
He is a 1967 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and a 1971 graduate of Susquehanna University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary mathematics, and in 1992 received his master's degree equivalency
He was employed by the Selinsgrove Area School District as a high school math teacher for 28 years.
He enjoyed reading, hunting, farming, playing guitar and raising pheasant and quail.
He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Freeburg, where he was president of St. Peters Lutheran and United Church of Christ Joint Council and consistory, president of St. Peters Lutheran Church Council, superintendent of the St. Peters Sunday School, a teacher of the Young Adult Sunday School class, and a member of the Music and Worship committee.
He was a life member of the Freeburg Volunteer Fire Company and National Rifle Association.
He was a member of the Selinsgrove Area Education Association.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Freeburg with the Rev. Timothy W. Bingman officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Freeburg.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at St. Peters Lutheran Church.

MCVEYTOWN - Ruth I. Searer, 93, of 7873 US Highway 522 S., McVeytown, died at 8:29 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.
TROXELVILLE - John W. Seebold, 76, of Troxelville, died at 4:10 p.m. Friday April 21, 2000 at his home after being ill for the past six months.
LEWISTOWN - John L. Seiler, 81, of 14 Helen St., Lewistown, died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.
