OAKLAND MILLS - Ronald D. Helwig, 63, of Oakland Mills, died at 2:13 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his home. Born April 8, 1937, in McAlisterville, he was the son of Julia (Varner) Helwig, McAlisterville RR1 and the late Russell D. Helwig. His wife, Nancy (Bordner) Helwig, Oakland Mills, whom he married Feb. 21, 1959, survives. Also surviving are: children, Daniel Helwig, Elizabethtown, John Helwig, Northumberland, Mrs. Tom (Tammy) Trautz, Sandown, NH, Mrs. Mark (Wendy) Mattocks, Mifflinburg; brothers and sisters, Samuel Helwig, Thompsontown, Rodney Helwig, Millerstown, Shirley Soder, McAlisterville RR1, Gail Barnes, Newport, Glenda Helwig, McClure, Judith Harling and Sharon Lehman, both of Mifflintown, Nancy Rodgers, Lewistown, Roxie Portzline, McAlisterville,Victoria Selvoski, Carlisle; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Dale Helwig, in 1963. He graduated from East Juniata High School in 1955. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958. He was employed by the Department of Transportation, Harrisburg, as a field engineer and construction manager until his retirement in January 1989. He was also employed by Urban Engineers, Philadelphia, for 3 years after his retirement. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR1 and attended the McAlisterville United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Fayette Lion's Club, McAlisterville, the Bunkertown Men's Chorus and the American Society of Highway Engineers. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. C. Richard Beach and the Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Cancer Society, 26 N. LEWISTOWN - Samuel H. Hendricks, 81, of 4 Ridgewood Terrace, Lewistown, died at 9:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at the Malta Home for the Aging, Granville. Born Aug. 21, 1919, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Howard and Carrie Mae (Duck) Hendricks. His wife, Emma (Morrison) Hendricks, Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Dennis (Bonnie) McMullen, Edith Notestine, Laura Hendricks and Jennifer Hendricks, all of Lewistown, John Hendricks, McVeytown, Lynn R. Hendricks, Reedsville, and Linda Paajanen, Fla; brothers and sisters, Doris Hartman, W.Va., Shirley Kratzer and Howard E. Hendricks, both of Lewistown, and Ronald Hendricks, Mifflinburg; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He retired from Noerr's Trucking Company. He was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club, and a member of the AACA. Funeral services will be private. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. tomorrow at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown. MANASSAS, Va. - Pauline M. Hendrickson, 69, of Manassas, Va., formerly of Lewistown, died at 2:47 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Manassas, Va. Born Sept. 17, 1930, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the Katherine (Dailey) Gilbertson of 27 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown and the late David Gilbertson. Her husband, Bruce Hendrickson, died in 1979. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Mahmoud (Kathryn) Ghahremanzadeh, Manassas, Va., JoNina Biddle, Philadelphia, Mary Ellen Miller, Lewistown and David Hendrickson, Harrisburg; and five grandchildren. She was an associate registrar for the American Nurses Association, Kansas City, Mo., for six years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude's Children's Hospital, PO Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101-9903. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
NEWBURG - Dale F. Henry, 69, of Newburg, died at 1:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Shippensburg Health Center. Born July 12, 1931, in Port Royal, he was a son of the late John F. and Josephine (Burdge) Henry Jr. His wife, Ethel (Hurley) Henry, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Dale J. Henry and Robert G. Henry, both of Fannettsburg, and Paul R. Henry, Camp Hill; two stepsons, John Mackey, Roxbury, and Danny Sheriff; four stepdaughters, Anna Keener, Pleasant Hall, Teresa Thompson, Chambersburg, Millie Swanger, Jacksonville, FL and Marian Solk; two brothers, Howard J. Henry and Robert V. Henry, both of Honey Grove; five sisters, Ethel Berry, Jean Henry and Mary Parsons, all of Honey Grove, Gloria Hardy, HR 67, Mifflin and Rose Walker, McVeytown; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a spouse, Esther Henry, and a son, James F. Henry. He was a retired packaging specialist for Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg and a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Upper Strasburg Church of God. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Rev. Keith Bell officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Upper Strasburg Church of God. The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Upper Strasburg Church of God, Upper Strasburg, PA 17265.
LEWISTOWN - Peggy J. Henry, 75, of 173 Klondyke Drive, Lewistown, died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2000, at her residence. Born May 13, 1925, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Bertha (Grose) Kensinger. Her husband, Roy L. Henry Sr., whom she married Sept. 1, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: children, Roy L. Henry Jr., Belleville, Mrs. Louis (Linda) Zannino, Chambersburg, Mrs. Bernard (Joan) Chatman, Tim M. Henry, and Mrs. Duane (Tammy) McMullen, all of Lewistown; a brother, Calvin Dull, Reedsville; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey in 1989 and a brother, Kenneth Corson. Early in life, she was employed at the Lewistown Trust Company. She was a member of the Salvation Army. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Captain Eddie Purvis officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
LEWISTOWN - Ronald P. Henry, 62, of RR6 Buttonwood Acres, Lewistown, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his residence. Born Aug. 23, 1938, in Lewistown, he was a son of Dorothy (Bedlyon) Henry Reitz of Orchard Grove Avenue, Lewistown, and the late Paul Henry. Surviving are: children, Jeffery L. Henry, Hampton, Va., Douglas P. Henry, Milroy and Mrs. Patrick (Carrie) Oldring, York; a stepsister, Mrs. Walter (Judith) Zeigler, Lebanon; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Scott Henry. Early in life, he was employed at FMC Corporation and Avtex Fibers. He was also a production employee at Auto Accessories of America, Milroy. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. George H. Mark officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from noon until the time of services today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
MCALISTERVILLE - Gladys I. Hepner, 88, of McAlisterville, died at 1:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born April 16, 1912, in McAlisterville, she was a daughter of the late Samuel G. and Sallie (Snyder) Hepner. Surviving are: brothers and sisters, Samuel and Richard Hepner, both of Milffintown, Donald and Kenneth Hepner, Esther Varner and Ruth Meiser, all of McAlisterville, Mary Wert, Manheim and Ferne Hepner, Mifflin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Clarence and Marlin Hepner. She attended Red Bank School, McAlisterville. She worked as a seamstress for 46 years at Lyon Fashions, McAlisterville. Earlier, she was a seamstress at the Richfield Shirt Factory, and worked as a domestic housekeeper for families in Lancaster. She was a member of Lauver's Mennonite Church, Richfield HCR 63 (Little Evendale), where she served as the church secretary and as a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed making and piecing quilt tops, and was recognized by the Mennonite Central Committee for donating 100 quilt tops to be sold at the Farm Show Building, Harrisburg. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Lauver's Mennonite Church, with Pastor John W. Gehman officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. BELLEVILLE - Charles C. Herbster, 96, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of 40 W. Spanogle Ave., Lewistown, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 30, 1904, in Snyder County, he was the son of the late J. Calvin and Catherine (Hommel) Herbster. His wife, Neda (Zechman) Herbster of Valley View Haven, Belleville, whom he married Sept. 16, 1922, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Jean C. Norman, 20 Chestnut St., Beaver Springs; a sister, Mary Feterolf, Mahoning; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles H. Herbster, who also died on Nov. 20, 2000; six brothers; a sister; and two grandchildren. He was a 1923 graduate of Lock Haven State Normal School. He taught school for a year at McClure High School, was a loom fixer for the Beavertown Silk Mill and later employed at the American Viscose Corporation, retiring in 1969 with 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Beavertown. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Private interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 129 W. Walnut St., Beavertown, PA 17813 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 2001 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA 17102.
