LEWISTOWN - Tressie M. Bender, 79, of 503 S. Juniata St., Lewistown, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at her home.
Born May 25, 1920, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late James and Angelinia (Lorio) Pupo. Her husband, Jonas K. "Red" Bender, died Aug. 13, 1994.
Surviving are: children, Beverly Stuck, Reedsville, James V. Bender Sr., Lewistown, and Salvatore Bender, Auburn; one brother, Frank Pupo, Lewistown; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James V. Pupo and Anthony P. Combriato.
She was a registered nurse at Lewistown Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 1998.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lewistown, and Brooklyn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart with Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
There will be no public viewing.

MIFFLINTOWN - Alice M. Benner, 68, of Mifflintown RR1, died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 1999, at the Harrisburg General Hospital.
Born June 18, 1931, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Verne and Francis (Yetter) Weiand. Her husband, John W. Benner, whom she married April 15, 1960, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, John W. Benner Jr., McAlisterville; brothers, Harry Weiand, Samuel Weiand, and Edward Weiand, all of McAlisterville; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Verne A. Benner in 1965; a brother; and two sisters.
She had been employed as a seamstress at Lyons Fashions, McAlisterville, the Arrow Shirt Factory, Lewistown, the Richfield Shirt Factory, and the East Salem Shirt Factory.
She was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Mifflintown RR1 and was a life member of the Fayette Fire Co. and auxiliary, McAlisterville.
She enjoyed flower gardening.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Donald W. Raffensperger officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m.

RICHFIELD - Clara Catherine Benner, 92, a resident of the Zendt Home, Richfield, formerly of Steelton, died at 9:20 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 27, 1907, in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Wilman) Page. Her husband, Allan J. Benner, died in 1947.
Surviving are: a son, Allen E. Benner Sr., Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Amanda Bruch, Thompsontown RR; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard S. Benner, in 1943; a granddaughter, Lynn Penner, in 1968; a brother, William Page; and four sisters, Mary McNaughton, Mildred Gearhart, Doris Taylor and Ruth Varner.
She was educated in Juniata County schools.
She was a homemaker.
There will be no public viewing.
Interment will be private and in Aline United Methodist Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1.
George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., Mount Pleasant Mills, is in charge of arrangements.
THOMPSONTOWN - Laura M. Benner, 76, of Thompsontown RR1 (Locust Run), died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born Aug. 27, 1922, in Locust Run, she was the daughter of the late Meryl and Dena (Detra) Wetzler. Her husband, Carl L. Benner Sr., whom she married Nov. 30, 1940, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Carl L. Benner Jr., Thompsontown; a brother, Robert P. Wetzler, Camp Hill; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Thompsontown High School.
She was a clerk in the Teacher's Certification Bureau, Department of Education, Harrisburg, retiring in 1983 after 28 years of service.
She was a member of the Locust Run United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Ladies Aid.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Maureen Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Locust Run Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

BENNINGTON, Vt. - Michaela M. Benner, 6, of Rockwood Street, Bennington, Vt., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y., after a long battle with an extremely rare disease.
Born Nov. 15, 1993, in Bennington, Vt., she was a daughter of Todd and Kimberley (Pierce) Benner of Bennington, Vt.
Also surviving are: twin sisters, Alicia and Emily Benner; brother, Elijah Benner, all at home; maternal grandmother, Jeannette Pierce, Bennington; and paternal grandfather, Harold Benner, Richfield.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Francis "Pete" Pierce; and paternal grandmother, Maxine Benner.
She attended kindergarten class at Bennington Elementary School.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, drawing, lady bugs, swimming, roller blading, amusement parks and riding her bike. She loved her dog, Mollie.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Interment will be in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at E. P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, Vt.

BURNHAM - Ruth P. Benny, 85, 316 N. Logan Blvd., Burnham, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at her residence.
Born on July 18, 1914, in Yeagertown, she was a daughter of the late John and Flo (Harmon) Benny.
Surviving are: three nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers.
She was employed as a cleaning person at the Burnham Post Office.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 200 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry Lutz officiating. Interment will be in the Yeagertown Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service today at the funeral home.

HUNTINGDON - Catherine M. Benson, 62, of 1028 Moore St., Huntingdon, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born May 1, 1937, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen (Seibert) Bilheimer. Her husband, Charles R. Benson, whom she married June 5, 1959, in Huntingdon, survives.
Also surviving are: children, William E. Benson Sr., Alexandria, Robin M. Bork, Spring Grove, and Bryan R. Benson, Huntingdon; sisters, Betty Bilheimer, Huntingdon, and Judy Bumgardner, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
She was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Huntingdon; the Women of the Moose, Huntingdon; the American Legion Auxiliary, Frank P. Hommon Post 24; the Huntingdon Hook and Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary; and a life member of the Petersburg Catering Club.
She was a homemaker and had worked for Technitrol in Petersburg at one time.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Free Methodist Church, Shadyside Avenue, Huntingdon, with the Rev. James Reed and the Rev. Joan Houck officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Huntingdon RR3.
Family will receive friends after 7 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. until noon Sunday at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon.
MILROY - Mary M. Berich, 80, of 483 S. Main St., Milroy, died at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 8, 1919 in Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late James and Lettie (Dehiser) Hassinger. Her husband, Stanley Berich, preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1964.
Surviving are: children, Stanley J. Berich of Milroy and Barbara Smith of Thompsontown; brothers, John Hassinger of Lewistown and Walter Hassinger of Mt. Pleasant Mills; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
She was employed by Empire Kosher Poultry and later by the Mifflin County School District maintenance department, retiring in 1981.
She attended the Milroy Presbyterian Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Juniata Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating.
There will be no public viewing.
